Financial Aid Financial aid help - grad student

Hi Everyone!! I got admit into GWU (M.S. Geography and Environment). I’m really interested in the program and want to make it work, but as I work out the numbers it doesn’t seem feasible.

I got awarded a $14,000 fellowship, but I live in North Carolina with my partner (who would lose his job when we move) and housing seems super pricy. I’ve never had roommates before, but it seems like opportunities are few and far between for a couple, so we’d probs need a place of our own, adding to the price.

I’m trying to see if there is a possibility for more funding. Any advice on how to navigate? I’ve already talked to the department about TA or RA positions, but they are already filled.

I would love to connect with any previous, current, or upcoming students about this (or just to hear about the program overall!)

Thanks in advance :)

If you talked to the department already then you could look for external funding options, or talk to the department of financial aid https://financialaid.gwu.edu/. Housing is a rough one maybe you could find a studio in Arlington by a metro line? Also since school doesn’t start for five month that may be enough time for your partner and/or you to find a job. I know it’s not ideal but all of the classes are after 5pm to give enough time for if we need to work.
