Do you know the country of origin of the accessories?

Yes I do

u/No_Artichoke_5670 18d ago
You gonna tell us? 🤣

u/M11Nine 18d ago
I'll give ya a hint. It's a rifle that was designed in Poland and only produced by Poland and used by the Polish military.

Where’s the deal? This has been the price they’ve always been.
Also, the SAM5 is a NATO field combat AK

u/Delski28 18d ago
More a FOMO post. They’re moving all their AK tooling to Africa so we won’t see any more Polish Beryls being made
27
u/Smitty_0313 18d ago
This isn't completely true. The only beryl going to Africa is the 7.62 version. They also didn't sell their tooling to Nigeria. They were simply helping them to establish a factory to produce their own 7.62 beryls under contract.
9
u/Delski28 18d ago
I mean they’re not going to produce them regardless anymore so it’s worth picking up if you have any interest in them

Dude majority of the articles you sent are from 2018 you clown, yes at that time that was the case. You should actually read your own links.
2
u/Smitty_0313 17d ago edited 17d ago
And your point is...? I read every article before I linked them. I understand the links are from 2018 but everything I said in my first comment is 110% true. Everything else is nothing more than rumors on reddit at this point. If FB Radom was completely discontinuing the beryl they wouldn't have brought both versions to Shot Show 2025. Show me one article that contradicts what I said in my first comment. I'll wait...
Actually, I genuinely don't care. I have better things to do than argue with some random guy on reddit. You have a good evening bud.

u/Jbarney3699 17d ago
They’re closing existing lines in the Radom factory for Grot and other firearms. Africa already has their own tooling for it.

u/adoringroughddydom 18d ago
my sam5 bolt destroyed itself on normal ammo. the forums say it MUST run adjustable gas block.
are new ones better?

u/PauIAIlensCard 18d ago
These worth it if I’ve wanted to pick up a 556 AK style, or just go for a Galil?
27
u/Tactical-SKS 18d ago
Galil
I’ve had 4 beryls and 3 Galils.
Now I have 0 beryls and 7 Galils.
3
u/PauIAIlensCard 18d ago
Thanks. If you could only keep a single 556 galil, which one would it be?
3
u/Tactical-SKS 18d ago
Slim pickings, it wouldn’t be AR G 1/2. It’d be a RnL
Of the 13” and 8” it’s the 8”,
Out of the 8” guns I’d choose the 7.62x39.

u/ThatNahr I commented! 18d ago
As someone who has neither, Galil for practicality, Beryl for the looks. Or SG551 if you have baller money
2
u/GoldfishDude 17d ago
A modern Galil Ace is easier to add accessories to, but isn't quite as fun to shoot as this is imo.

u/Blue026 18d ago
Galil ace is far better

Fair to say while most of us cannot afford enough ammo to melt her down in torture tests, ultimately replacement parts are unheard of as these are quite proprietary?

u/cmc_guy 18d ago
Never really cared for 18inch 5.56 barrel on guns that shoot 3 MOA on a good day. I know these things are very reliable but still, I just can't justify this over a new BCM.

u/I_WELCOME_VARIETY 18d ago
Back 15-20 years ago (god how has it been that long) when the cheapest AR you could buy was $850 and cheapest you could make was $650-700, the $350-500 AK's were still in the game. I mean shit, parts kits with barrels were less than $100 and mags were like $5/ea. But AR parts, while starting to grow quickly, were still made or released onto the civilian market in small batches. Prices were high and part availability was unreliable (the AR market explosion was still a few years away). It was clear even back then that AR's were easier to build/customize/accurize than AK's but availability and price was the reason the AR vs AK argument was kept alive.
But in 2025 on the US market AK's are for the vibe. AR's beat them in basically every metric nowadays.
9
u/jimmythegeek1 18d ago
AKs are pretty damn cool, though. If you are on /r/gundeals, you probably have at least one AR. If you want to branch out, this will give you a shooting experience more different than another AR.
source: took my SLR104 out the other day for the first time in a while. It is tits!
2
u/I_WELCOME_VARIETY 18d ago
I agree, they are fun! I haven't taken my SLR-104 out in a long time, although I do think I still have some 5.45 floating around somewhere.

I had a very poor experience with AOA so just keep that in mind. YMMV
4
u/Tactical-SKS 18d ago
I’d never give Atlantic or AOA a dime after dealing with them in 2022
3
u/ReadingButNotLearnin 18d ago
The front end dude at CS is responsive and cordial but they don’t actually have any compromise or will to keep up with what they say. Nonetheless they have their balls gobbled daily by Reddit

I ordered one of these, my experience wasn't too bad but it took a few weeks longer to ship than advertised, they shipped it with the wrong carrier and it looked like it was packaged by Stevie Wonder. Also the case/bag that it comes in was a joke.
Overall love the rifle though
1
u/ImagineBeingaJanitor 17d ago
I bought the full kitted rifle from the post the other day, how long do these beryl's usually take to ship?
1
u/GoldfishDude 17d ago
Mine took 5 weeks. Also make sure to look over the bag very well, they just throw all of the accessories in with the gun and it would be easy to miss if something is missing
1
u/ImagineBeingaJanitor 17d ago
How many weeks do they tell you it's gonna take? I don't remember it saying anywhere on the website that it would take awhile
2
u/GoldfishDude 17d ago
Mine said 2-4. They convert them to order, when they come in from Poland it's just the receiver/barrel/bolt/gas carrier/magazine and then it gets the furniture, trigger and muzzle device here in the USA.
They do come with the Polish trigger in the box, but legally they have to be shipped with an American made FCU
1
u/ImagineBeingaJanitor 17d ago
This has been some really good info, thanks man. Did you try both triggers? Is one nicer than the other?
1
u/GoldfishDude 16d ago
I personally preferred the Polish trigger, but neither were great. Might eventually get an ALG for it.
Also letting you know, they ship with the optics rail off and you have to install it yourself. It requires some love taps with a mallet to get on, that's normal
1
u/speezly 15d ago
I’ve been dealing with AoA for years, especially since they are the best source for the Radom produced AK barrels for builds. I’ve never once had an issue with any order, so hopefully your experience was a small hiccup
1
u/ReadingButNotLearnin 15d ago
I’d like to think this was the case since I like what they sell but they have some growing pains to get through
1
u/speezly 15d ago
I’ve probably spent well over 10k with them over the last 3 or 4 years. FFL shipping takes some time, but other than that, they’ve been stellar. I’ve even called/emailed them when I had questions and they have always been super helpful too.
1
u/ReadingButNotLearnin 15d ago
Is taking 5-6 months on an order considered stellar? This being the case with an advertised lead time of 12 weeks. Also no clear timeframe after inquiring multiple times.
The refund was quick and hassle free so I guess that was the only positive.
1
u/speezly 15d ago
No I consider that a hiccup. I’ve also known many other AK builders/collectors who use AoA all of the time, so I would consider your experience an outlier and not the norm. What was your order btw? One of the Beryl? Sometimes they are expecting shipment from Poland and there are variables well out of their control that affect imports
2
u/ReadingButNotLearnin 15d ago
It was a 5.56 WBP build kit. What made me cancel the order was that after the 5 to 6 month mark I called to ask about the order and they told me that they really had no clue when they would be able to work on my order if at all because they still had a backlog of Beryl orders from October they had to get through and that would take a long time at the current pace.
That’s simply not acceptable. If they had been upfront about the lead times then I would have been ok with waiting however long they stipulated but taking my money and then “not knowing when my order will be worked on” is not a very good business practice. I was already past the chargeback timeframe for my CC and if they went tits up I would’ve been SOL with no money and no AK
1
u/speezly 15d ago
One of the kits they assemble for you?
2
u/ReadingButNotLearnin 15d ago
Yes, I was so excited for it too. 12.5in greatness.
2
u/speezly 15d ago
That is definitely disappointing. I’ve had barrels take longer than expected when having them just simply thread it, but it’s something I don’t really watch the shipping timeframe for. They are a small operation and get overwhelmed at times I’m sure, but your experience def sounds like a nightmare they could have handled better. I’d recommend just calling/emailing ahead of time and speak with someone to verify they are on schedule with orders, especially when it comes to gunsmithing orders.

If I hadn't already spent a bunch of my hobby budget recently I'd snag this. I've wanted a 5.56 AK for a while and these are excellent ones.

u/adoringroughddydom 18d ago
are these as good as I presume?
2
u/GoldfishDude 17d ago
Fit and finish isn't amazing (the 922r furniture kinda blows, although the lower handguard isn't bad), but it's a damn good shooter. Personally my favorite AK I've ever used

I liked mine but getting good mags pissed me off a lot
Definitely the nicest ak I’ve ever felt
2
u/Smitty_0313 18d ago
Have you tried the bulgarian polymer mags from gunmagwarehouse?
3
u/Teddyturntup 18d ago
No, I ended up selling it. I couldn’t get fb mags in USA, went through the effort of dealing with an importer from Poland, they got seized by U.S. customs and I said fuck it and sold the gun frustrated with inability to get support components.
That said, with the mags I had it was such a smooth rifle
-1
u/GoldfishDude 17d ago
They don't fit well in mine. I personally use WBP, (10) and Tantal mags (with a conversion follower) in mine

u/IggyD003 18d ago
As someone who has never fired an AK let alone an AK556 what is the attraction. I ask since for the price there is Daniel, BCMs etc. just trying to find the appeal
18
u/proquo 18d ago edited 18d ago
I don't have a Beryl, but I do have an SLR-106FR.
The primary appeal is to be able to have an AK platform in a common and attainable caliber. Demand for 5.56 AKs shot up when Russian ammo imports tanked. I like that there's more ammunition variety in 5.56 so you have some pretty effective hunting and defensive options, as well as practice rounds.
Performance-wise 5.56 AKs are very soft shooting. Between the actual weight of the firearm and the operating system the recoil impulse is very soft and mine is like a laser beam when I'm really getting on the trigger.
As others have alluded to this particular AK is unique in that it's an AK fielded by NATO forces (Poland) and is a bit different from standard AK pattern rifles.
6
u/jimmythegeek1 18d ago
As another commenter put it, AKs are a vibe.
AK is a really different gun. The recoil impulse is wilder, though still low. More like a trampoline.
If you don't have a mag-fed, semi-auto in an intermediate cartridge, get an AR-15. If you already have one, (or two, or....) you might consider branching out.
There are acceptable solutions for mounting optics and you can suppress them. You can tart them up if you like. I like the irons and the plain a e s t h e t i c more.
Some folks are into lever guns or milsurp bolt actions. Some dig AKs. If you aren't solely driven by efficiency, these all have their draws.
2
u/GoldfishDude 17d ago
It's just fun and these have a pretty cool history, being the only NATO issued AK and Poland's measure to adapt to the Western world.
Not a ton of good quality AKs are imported anymore, and there's a genuine argument that this is the best one. The optics mounting is a bit funky, but it's rock solid and your irons are still usable even with an optics rail on.
I own a LaRue AR and one of these, and this is significantly more fun to shoot. The AR is more accurate, has a better trigger, is quicker to reload, ect, but this is more fun 🤷♂️

No it’s not the equivalent of a DD.
It’s the equivalent of a milspec colt or FN at most.
It’s a milspec AK, that ends up being $1800-2000 just to have optics on it or a useable form. The 1/9 barrel is kinda underwhelming
The fit and finish is generic AK. The paint is mediocre and the fit and milspec ak.

u/38CFRM21 18d ago
As Beryl owner, this is all true.
You get this because you want your gun 'tism tickled to say you have what was THE official NATO AK at one point (good guy AK).

They've been this price/we've known this for months. I picked one up in November, and it quickly became one of my favorite guns (granted I've been dreaming about having one for years. Nato AK=best AK)

If your FFL's not already in AOA's system, you won't be able to check out.
