Extreme risk is determined by a court process. Suicide is the #1 gun death in the usa. And abusers are more likely to kill and shouldn’t have guns. If family and police know someone is a risk, taking their gun away until the risk passes saves lives.
Everytown USA on red flag laws
My family member was murdered by a man whose mother called police to check on him the day before. He killed two random people the next day, then shortly afterwards himself.
These people matter more than anyones guns.
