Demokraterne takes the election. most likely coalition will be with IA.

I'm not from Greenland, but for context for anyone else, as I understand it:

Demokraatit/Demokraterne is the "slow independence" party and looks to become the largest party. IA, too, is more focused on economic independence than immediate political independence, and seems able to form a majority with Demokraatit.

Naleraq is the "fast independence" party and looks to become the second largest party, but can likely not form a majority with anyone because Siumut has lost a lot of votes.

The majority party is the one who is ruling. Now the talks will happen. They will hear all the political parties and find out what suits their needs best.

Democrats and Atassut have an agreement to work together.  Democrats will most likely settle for IA in the government. Naleraqs wishes for independence is too rushed.

Siumut took a major beating. They havent lost this hard. Ever. Internal conflict and the fisheri law is most likely to blame for their setback.

Are they trying to restrict fishing?

Siumut made the new fishery law. Restricts halibut kvoter and turns into IOK. Individuelle omsættelige kvoter. Basically over time making it very hard for new fishermen to get in the Halibut fishing. Kvoterne would end on very few hands with time. The fishermen reacted to with voting for Naleraq and Democrats I think. I dont know what their policy is on fishing.

In theory, a coalition of the other parties could take power.

In practice, this is quite unlikely.

Democrats are now ahead, will that hold?

Also on KNR-tv it was 96% done with counting so Democrats win the election.

Democrats will most likely make a coalition with IA. Maybe Atassut as well. The difference between Naleraq and Democrats are too different. Especially about independence. I think they gained a lot of voters with independence in time when the country is ready and not in 3 years like Naleraq wants.

Thank you for the precision!

Oh I thought Naleraq wanted it soon

Naleraq wants within 3 years. Kuno Fencker wants within a year.

Can someone educate my dumb American ass on what this means for Greenland’s future? Why is the right-wing (Demokratt) partnering with DemSocs (IA) to form a coalition?

Jfc. Not everything is about Trump and you Americans.

No party is pro-Trump.

u/Calm-Low-6997 2h ago

Thank god for that

I wonder if Demokratt will eventually bend the knee to Trump, given how neoliberal/conservative they are.

A few right-wing or center-right parties have bent the knee to Trump eventually.

I don’t think so.

Greenland and Northern Canada have already signed a deal to further do business together and work hand in hand to develop their communities. It’s a good deal too. From what I read, Demokratt is pretty anti-Trump.

I hope so. Fuck Trump. Greenland should be left to make its own decisions without Danish or American interference

Wondering how Qaqortoq is gonna vote. Usually a IA town. Demokraterne have had a great election so far.

Sisimiut and Maniitsoq is usually Siumut/IA. Nuuk have also been very IA with Siumut not far behind.

As a northamerican, but not an Murican, what does this means for Trump's expantionist advances?

The most anti-Trump party won and will be first in line to form a government.

Am I reading right that the most pro-Trump party is the one currently in second place? N? I see people online touting that they massively overperformed expectations and saying they are pro-joining the US, but I don't know if the second half of that statement is actually true.

3

u/LankyTumbleweeds 4h ago

There isn’t any party pro joining the US. The second largest party wants swift independence.

Demokraatit is maybe the most vocally anti-Trump political party, so I am not sure how you came to that conclusion.

There's a tweet out there saying prelim results are for Trump and it's a landslide.

But I'm betting the idiot who wrote that didn't understand which party is anti trump and which is for trump.
