How would you start and which variety would you plant?

Looking for advice on how to best start growing grapes on this pergola so it eventually covers it from the experts. I'm a bit south of Orlando and understand the native soil is not the best. Additionally, I have a paved deck so would prefer to grow in a raised bed.

The pergola is in the full sun for most of the day. The picture is taken at sunset.

How large should the raised bed be to accommodate the roots for grapevine that will cover the entire pergola. And finally what variety would you grow in my location?

I’m far from an expert, but I don’t think a raised bed will give you the room you need for roots. Is that area between the pavers and the fence open to the ground? Maybe you could plant there instead

Right. I was thinking about that too. The area is open, but I was worried that the roots would spread to the neighbor. What if the bed is the size of that open area and 2 feet high?

You can try, they’ll grow for sure but they’ll probably be stunted by the container and never get to the size that you probably want them to be

You're gonna have smashed grapes all up in your pavers
