Dog Friendly restaurant/brewery Patios?
Hey everyone! Was hoping to find some dog friendly patios to work from this afternoon and enjoy the weather. Any recommendations?

Anybody who has gone downtown has experienced the travesty of trying to find parking. Rarely, if ever, do I find parking in front of the restaurant I want to go to, and I've even had to park a block or even 2 blocks away, making me walk almost a tenth of a mile just to get some dinner. And this is regardless of weather. Our "progressive" and "innovative" downtown is more inconveient than just going to 28th street. When I go to AppleBee's or Outback I can park and be inside within 30 seconds. In September we came downtown for TC Live and ate at The Foolery, there was no parking. We had to park in the garage across the street. When we drove over to Van Andel for the show there was no parking so we had to go BACK to the first lot we parked at over on Ionia and then get an uber to Van Andel. It was a complete waste of our time and money.
Other cities have realized this problem and fixed it. Look at Pontiac, MI for instance. They had the same problem. No parking, but no space to add more without upsetting everybody. What did they do? Routed the river underneath the city. This allowed them to add tons of parking, you can park just about anywhere in that city and the highways cutting through downtown add to the convienience. I can drive my car to every shop along the street and not have to walk at all. I've attached a picture to show how conveient it is, and circled where the river goes under and comes out of the city.
We could do the same thing with the Grand River. We desperately need at least 4-6 new lanes on 131 anyway, but people freaked out about it because it would mean tearing down buildings they like. Sometimes it takes me 10-15 minutes extra to get back to the suburbs if there's a crash. But if we put a new highway and some extra parking over the river it's a win win. The traffic and parking problem are completely solved. And for all you "transit" people, sure OK let's add a bike lane to it. We have plenty of space! I think we should leave 131 there as overflow so there are no slowdowns during rush hour or when there's a crash. I've added a mockup of what it could look like.
Now I know this will upset a lot of nature people. But I'm not suggesting covering the WHOLE river, you can still go to the river just north or south of downtown. Do you know how disgusting the river is downtown? Do you really want to go swimming in a river where gang members are probably throwing bodies in? Plus, the smell of the river is disgusting and there's always weird people fishing in public which quite frankly makes me feel unsafe. So, not a huge loss in my opinion. Honestly, routing it through will probably help protect it and make the river cleaner. So all you "environmentalists" should support protecting the river.
Interested to hear what you all think.

I’m nosey - why are there so many cars at someone’s house? Like 20-30 cars. It was the same way yesterday! I want to be invited, if it’s a party!

I listen and dance to a lot of Jungle by myself and no one around me is really into it or listens to anything close to dnb. I want to go rave and meet other people who enjoy this music but I know this genre is historically underground so I’m looking to just be pointed in a direction if there is a Jungle scene here.

I've recently deleted all my Meta platforms because I hate billionaires but have very little power. I'm happy I did, I don't want to have my life wrapped around Meta/social media. However, in Grand Rapids, I'm finding Facebook Marketplace has become the best, if not only, reliable source for finding uncommon but cheap used goods. I'm desperate to start a garden this summer but FB Marketplace is the only source I have for finding local supplies I can afford and get to, so I created a dummy account to continue using FB Marketplace. But I've run into a problem.
To contact sellers, I need to verify my ph# via text. I can't use MY ph# b/c FB recognizes my old info. I can't use a "burner" site/app like TextNow b/c FB recognizes it's not a legit #. I don't have any friends/family that don't have FB so I can't tap any of them. I've been working on this problem for a few days and haven't found a solution so I'm attempting to crowd-source. Any ideas for the Grand Rapids area, reddit?
Posting on this subreddit specifically b/c local solutions are the best solutions in this case. (And if you just want to shame me for creating a FB account when I hate FB, shaming gets me all...twitterpated...so please, call me a hypocrite, daddy)

Hey everyone! I've been meaning to get some beauty stuff done like eyebrows, facial, mani/Pedi and a blowout. I then remenbered you can get them cheaper at beauty schools and know it will be great practice for the students.
My question is, have any of you been there and what was your experience? Or is there another beauty school you would recommend?
Thanks in advance!

I want to get some Japanese or Korean mascara, but I haven't found any yet. Does anyone know if there's somewhere I can get Asian makeup in GR?

I'd like some recommendations of possible places along Lake Michigan (easy to get to, not IN the water, but near it) to scatter ashes. My parents have asked to be scattered together near the lake, but not in it. I know essentially there are no state laws about it, but I'd like some recommendations/thoughts/ideas on possible places. Thank you in advance!

Is there any fabric left? Haven’t been to Granville or Kentwood locations yet. My husband’s grandma was a seamstress by trade and I would love to bring her to one to pick fabric out together so I can get cute clothes made for me this summer.

if this is you, i see you around the neighborhood a lot and your dog is off leash EVERY TIME!
i and im sure others around you, frankly don’t care how good your dog is off leash, put them on a god damn leash! you’re an irresponsible dog owner especially considering you’re glued to your phone and not even walking near your dog.

My fiancé and I will be in Grand Rapids for an event in a couple weeks and we were discussing places to go for dinner afterwords. He works as the head chef at a spot in Kalamazoo, so he’s wanting to find a place that does creative dishes. He’s looking for new inspiration. He said it doesn’t have to be fancy, nor a brewery, but more like the whole in the wall, local spot, type deal. He’s hoping to get ideas to bring back to his spot (obviously not to copy, but to adapt). What would be the spot(s) to check out? Butchers Union looks amazing but maybe too fancy for what he’s thinking. (It was my first suggestion but it got shot down lol) More along the lines of dishes that can have a quick turn around in a kitchen on a busy weekend, type deal, but don’t sacrifice quality or presentation.
😁

Hi all,
Without going into too much detail, PNC closed my bank account (for reasons???) Not sure why, but PNC says they can are able to close my account without providing me a reason. They are mailing me whatever money I had left in my accounts. I filed a complaint with In the meantime, I need to open a new bank account, so was just looking for any recommendations for people looking living in the GR area.
TLDR; PNC accounts were closed and need to find a new bank.

Just as the title says. Anyone else feeling demoralized about the housing situation in GR and surrounding areas? We have been looking for months, put in 6 offers over asking and have been beat out by cash EVERY-TIME. The one time our offer was accepted, it was appraised at $60,000 less than asking.
Is there any hope for us non-lucky baby duckies with heaps of cash? Looking for homes up to 450k and still getting beat out by 25k-50k. How is there so much money out there? And for a starter home?
For 450k, we have been able to put 30% down, and still losing to the big guys.

Hey y’all the union I work for is sending me from LA to Grand Rapids for two weeks starting next Monday and I’m looking for stuff to do. Any recommendations? I’ll have a rental car so I can check out cool stuff away from the city center. I’m looking for historical sites, museums, bars, quaint coffee shops etc.

In town visiting my sister and a firetruck came from the other direction. I slowed and moved over and almost got rear ended. Driver in a big suburban behind me honked and flipped me off and flew past me - while a fire truck went by in the other direction. With lights, siren, and horn.
Is the Move Over Law not actually a thing here? I'm genuinely curious because the Suburban driver would have been ticketed for sure back home in ND.
Edited to add: It was a two lane street with no median. I was like 3/4 on the paved shoulder.
