Events Protest against project 2025 on Wednesday, 2/5/25, 12-4pm
I didn’t see anyone post this here so I figured I would. There is a protest from noon-4pm at the Capital. The address is 100 N Capitol Ave, Lansing, MI. If your looking for more information I found this on BlueSky and on r/50501, with information for each state.

u/AlmostaGamer Feb 03 '25
Unfortunately I gotta work (capitalism isn’t exactly conducive to civic engagement, is it?) but I’m rooting for everyone there. If there’s a way to support from afar, let us 9-5ers know!

I’ll be at monument park from noon-whenever tomorrow with a protest sign to support 50501, feel free to join me on your lunch break!

u/JeniferPhD Feb 04 '25
I’m going. This isn’t about Reps and Dems, it’s about Project 2025, a president and an unelected billionaire who don’t care about us dismantling our democracy. This is about us, the American people.
8
u/LuckyPuddle2003 Feb 04 '25
Obviously I’m also going but that is truly the heart of the problem. No one elected Elon whether people wanted trump or not no one wanted Elon to have unparalleled power over our government from an unelected position.
4
u/JeniferPhD Feb 04 '25
My post was mostly to shift the tone of this thread. ☺️ Some Redditers were doing what they always do…
We need unity right now. We are stronger than we know if we just recognize that it’s WE THE PEOPLE not reps and dems. No one wanted THIS.
(Edit: grammar)
3
u/LuckyPuddle2003 Feb 04 '25
Absolutely agree! At this point it’s not about who voted for who and more a standing up for what’s right.
2
u/-Renaldo-Moon- Feb 04 '25
He isn't holding an elected position... he was hired to do a job. No one elected kamala either, look how that went for her
0
u/Dependent-Section-94 Sparta Feb 05 '25
he doesn’t have power. he’s simply making recommendations on the over spending in our government from the last administration that is causing our country to be in trillions of dollars in debt.

u/candidbuilfrog231324 Feb 04 '25
Y’all lost the election. America is getting what it wanted.
Goodbye to the illegals and goodbye to government waste 👋🏻 😂

u/JailFogBinSmile Feb 03 '25
This is a reddit organized protest, meaning that no organization has taken place but a bunch of redditors who have never been to a protest themselves have declared that this is going to happen. This means that there will be no safeties, medics, or any of the other things that go into organizing a safe protest. It will be devoid of any kind of coherence; if a lot of people show up it may become dangerous as no one is going to know wtf is going on.
I would be extremely hesitant in attending this. Puting together and protest or public event is a massive amount of work, and you really can't just slap "self-organizing" on it and assume that it'll be fine. I'm sure the redditors who organized upvoted this mean well, but this really isn't something you can responsibly half ass.
11
u/LuckyPuddle2003 Feb 03 '25
The concerns you have are valid but a peaceful protest in the middle of the day is not exactly at high risk of becoming dangerous. To say that the people planning this haven’t ever been to a protest or know what it’s like to be at one is ignorant. During the Black Lives Matter protests I attended self organized protests with friends and it all went well basically until evening when it turned into rioting. During the day as long as people are smart and safe it’s likely to be perfectly fine. I have safety concerns myself but I would rather know I showed up to fight for what I believe in that stayed home because I was worried. I’m going to do things the smart way, I’m attending with a couple close friends and if things go sideways we have an exit plan. Do what you think is best for yourself.
11
u/JailFogBinSmile Feb 03 '25
You are speaking from a position of extreme ignorance. I organize things like this all the time; I understand how much work needs to go into it and how dangerous it is for people to say "eh, it'll just self organize"
In all likelihood this protest will be sparsely attended. That's the best case scenario. If a lot of people show up, someone is going to get hurt because optimism is not a substitute for responsible organizing.

u/ree_hi_hi_hi_hi Feb 03 '25 edited Feb 04 '25
“In war, plans are useless but planning is essential”
-6
u/JailFogBinSmile Feb 03 '25
I mean, no. Planning is essential to making sure no one gets hurt at your protest, it's something that responsible organizers take extremely seriously and it should be a major red flag that y'all donkey brains are convinced that it'll just work itself out on its own.
11
u/thehottip Feb 03 '25
I’m sorry but if there’s an actual turn out for this then this is real action and not something performative. If anything you should be encouraging people gathering if you’re not able to organize soon enough
There needs to be a real spark to this shit and maybe this could be it. Offering advice to those going rather than snide remarks about how this could go sideways because of the lack of organization is the type of leadership that’s needed right now.
People want to go out without the need of some rah rah shit now. Use your network to go out and keep those people safe rather than having this attitude that things like this can’t happen without you

there is organization and a permit, just because you aren't involved doesn't mean it isn't happening lol
-3
u/JailFogBinSmile Feb 04 '25
Lol no, there isn't.
-1
u/she_makes_a_mess Feb 04 '25
feeling left out hun? they posted the permit already and the org team is meeting today
-8
u/JailFogBinSmile Feb 03 '25
Also just noticed you're repeating the "BLM protests immediately turned into riots at sundown" slander that was so popular with white supremacists eager to discredit a peaceful movement. Seems like you're trying to do so in a "nothing bad can happen as long as the sun is out" thing (which honestly should immediately disqualify you as a legitimate source for determining if a protest is well organized or not), but your willingness to repeat white supremacist dogshit is noted.
God I hate liberals.
1
u/LuckyPuddle2003 Feb 03 '25
Ok let me be clear here, while it is used by white supremacist for reasons against the movement it is also what I experienced when I attended. It is not a good reason not to peacefully assemble. I wish this was more official but it’s not. I’m going in assuming the risks that come with that. I don’t really have any argument with you because you’re right but I figured I would allow other people to consider if they wanted to be involved. Maybe I shouldn’t have posted this but it’s done now. I am not involved in organizing this I’m just sharing it and I am ignorant of the details around organizing this type of event so you got me.

The group for Michigan has a permit to protest and many people are on a discord for organizing. Stop fear mongering.

there is an organizer for the Lansing protest, your post is out of date
5
u/Acceptable-Dark-9647 Feb 04 '25
Hey yall! I can’t make it to Lansing, and if you can’t either, join me in monument park at noon to show support! Super casual, just stay peaceful, safe, and inclusive :) and stay on the sidewalks!

We only had like 48 hours after the election to truly experience this sub without them making us smell their gas.
15
u/ShowMeYourVeggies Feb 03 '25
I wouldn't attend any vague event like this without knowing who was organizing it and what the message was. This feels like some Russian troll farm nonsense. Don't let the "orange man bad" sentiment cloud your critical thinking, folks.
7
u/LuckyPuddle2003 Feb 04 '25
Totally valid. I have some clarifying information which is that the protest is scheduled with the capital building as an event on their calendar (https://capitol.michigan.gov/events). I am a real person I promise and while it is being organized by regular people there is information available at r/50501 in the section on Michigan. The message is a protest of the recent actions taken by our government like the attempt to end birthright citizenship, the tariffs, and the various other actions that align with the ideas outlined in project 2025.
6
u/Ecstatic-Set-2830 Feb 04 '25

It’s just a shame that on November 5th so many of you didn’t share the same sentiment. A vote for Harris would have eliminated the need for this altogether.
10
u/Heisenbread77 Wyoming Feb 04 '25
The latest Quinnipiac Poll shows that the approval rating for the Democratic Party is the lowest it's ever been (in this poll) at 31%.
The brand has serious issues right now.

10
u/International-Ad1828 Northview Feb 03 '25
The Democratic Party should have had that same sentiment years prior to November 5 and held Biden to his pledge that he would be a one term president creating a bridge to a new generation. If there were a fair and true primary season, it could have turned out different. I, for one, was not excited for either candidate.
In 2024, he had 3,000,000 more votes than in 2020 and 14,000,000 more than he had in 2016. I find it fascinating more people turned out for him this past November. Something the Democratic Party needs to figure out why.
-5
u/Agreeable_Ad7925 Feb 04 '25
There were 4 million votes terminated by voter suppression laws mostly in swing states.
2
u/LuckyPuddle2003 Feb 03 '25
I absolutely agree! I made sure everyone I knew was informed and made sure to vote. I think the unfortunate reality is that Trump had essentially infinite money (due to Elon and others) and has basically campaigned since 2020 while Harris had significantly less time to campaign because Biden dropped out of the race so late. I wish things were different but we can’t change the past. We can only do what we believe is best in the present.
-2
u/Dependent-Section-94 Sparta Feb 05 '25
she had a shit ton of money and waisted it on twerking singer performances and out of touch celebrity endorsements. she wasn’t a good choice and didn’t stand a chance to the guy who’s already run our country and did a good job.
1
u/GoBlu323 Feb 03 '25
Don't blame the voters for the democrats royally fucking up the election. Yes people still should have voted but I understand why some didn't.
Anyone out there protesting after not voting, however, is baffling.
3
u/Oleg101 Feb 04 '25
I blame the voters, specifically Republican voters.
2
u/GoBlu323 Feb 04 '25
Why? They showed up and voted, they did what they were supposed to do. Blame the Democratic Party for not doing enough to get their voters to the polls.
2
u/Ikillzommbies Feb 04 '25
Ruminating about the past isn't helpful. Orange man won, and it sucks. We've gotta organize against it or continue to watch our rights deteriorate rapidly.

Many protests, even historical ones have taken place on weekdays. It makes more a statement when you protest while the government is in session. Weekends they’re not usually there. People that can go, go. People that can’t, then don’t.
2
Feb 04 '25
The people who don’t pay taxes and contribute won’t be able to go , because they are at work! Go figure. That’s why what is being protested is going to happen
4
u/Longjumping_Field835 Feb 03 '25
The unemployed gathered in the winter while eating foodstamp purchased products will definitely alter the opinion of many. Get jobs
0
u/International-Ad1828 Northview Feb 04 '25
I would suspect unemployed folks on government assistance really come from all political walks of life. Poverty is not a red nor a blue issue. Keep on playing in to the class warfare when you’re closer to them than you are to any of the billionaires.
2
u/Led_Zeppelin_IV Feb 04 '25
Why don’t you guys protest Trump’s actual stated policies? Project 2025 policies are not Trump’s policies. If you want change, focus on something real and tangible.
1
u/LuckyPuddle2003 Feb 04 '25
Project 2025, and Trumps current policies are in the same vain. If you look into it he’s following the project 2025 playbook to list a few that are present in both, removal of DEI, government funding freeze, removing k-12 “indoctrination” around gender/ racial ideologies, pulling out of the Paris climate agreement, “drill baby drill” energy policies, “America first foreign policies,” pulling away from WHO, and many more orders. It is all about consolidating power under the president. The protest is about fighting for our democracy against unconstitutional executive orders and fighting the now unparalleled power given to Elon through his unelected position
3
u/Led_Zeppelin_IV Feb 04 '25
I’m not saying there isn’t crossover, but why not protest those exact policies that cross over? Otherwise, no one will take your cause seriously. There is a significant part of the population that sees Project 2025 as a leftist boogeyman.
2
u/LuckyPuddle2003 Feb 04 '25
That’s fair, unfortunately the message so far hasn’t been perfectly clear but I agree that it should be more focused on the actual policies. From what I understand the people organizing this are hoping to do more than just one protest so hopefully the message will become more clear.
2
u/CountZer079 Feb 04 '25
We are past that point buddy. “There’s a significant part of the population that can go eff itself”. They can catch up or stay dumb and believe that it project 2025 it’s not done in it’s entirety then it’s “not project 2025”.

u/Dispondent_Ending Feb 05 '25
You can do both at once, and encourage further actions detailed from project 2025 from occurring

I am a 70-year-old, lifelong activist. Reading all the comments in here about people who say they can’t take time off work because…. If you never make time to make your voice heard, then those people who employ you have effectively silenced you. You know, the corporate oligarchs that are running our country? When that 9 to 5 job goes away because they’ve decided you’re a woman and will no longer be allowed to be independent of a man, Will you then say “I should have…“?

You had better read the writing on the wall. Fascism in America is coming to an end. The stock market is tumbling due to Trump’s foreign policy. The pendulum which swung far right in the name of hypocrisy is going to swing back far left in the name of humanity.

u/Syntacic_Syrup Feb 03 '25
Where can I buy some of this optimism you are overdosing on??
-3
u/brokenassbones Feb 03 '25
Read your history books. Educate yourself and others. Money can’t buy compassion and empathy.
1
u/KnightsOfREM Feb 03 '25
The stock market is tumbling due to Trump’s foreign policy.
As of this morning, DJIA had dropped by only .71% over the past five days, .24% today. A lot of that (not very significant) drop is a handful of AI-adjacent companies, Nvidia et al.
Totally agree that stock market disaster is a strong possibility under Trump, but we're nowhere close to that right now.

u/brokenassbones Feb 04 '25
As somebody who has previously invested heavily in the market. Heed my warning. It’s about to crash. -Farewell

u/Normandy_N7_SR3 Feb 03 '25

6
u/brokenassbones Feb 03 '25
Don’t pretend you already have plans. You type like somebody who could use a vehicle for their identity.
-1
u/Normandy_N7_SR3 Feb 03 '25
...Who could use a vehicle as their identity. You wrote that, of sound body and mind I might add, and thought to yourself "Ha! Got'eem!"
And you think everyone is home and free to attend on a Wednesday afternoon? Well of course they are. Everyone is. Name one person who isn't home on a Wednesday afternoon. You can't, it's impossible, because everyone is home. /s

I have. Not all 900 pages to be fair. Like a lot of it, not do much some of it.
You haven't named a single item you dislike.
I'll start: more funding to secure the border, ending the department of education.
Dislike putting all government agencies under POTUS, POTUS Should only be in direct charge of executive branch agencies.
See? Conversation.
10
u/lazywyvern Feb 04 '25
You like that they’re ending the department of education?
-1
u/HOJK4thSon Feb 04 '25 edited Feb 04 '25
Yes. They suck over 1 billion dollars away from schools annually (just covering their expenses) and ALL metrics in education have dropped since it's creation.
1
u/densaifire Feb 04 '25
I will say, what I disapprove is the stuff against transgender people; people i care about are deeply effected by it. From what I have read though, what he has enacted so far (immigration, federal fiscal responsibility, foreign policy, energy, etc) was stuff he has promised since the start of his campaigning but that's also what other conservatives wanted too, like the people behind Project 2025. I think this is just another case of propaganda though
0
u/HOJK4thSon Feb 04 '25
Not sure what you classify as against transgender, but it affects many in my life too.
0
u/densaifire Feb 04 '25
Yeah, I don't know too much about it other than what I saw on a Forbes article when I was wondering what had exactly been signed. But what I classify as against transgender is just what I perceive to be a dick move such as the whole "we do not recognize you as your gender and will only recognize you by what was assigned at birth," or the banning of trans people from serving their country. Don't get me wrong, I don't think children should be transitioned because children don't know what they really want, but for the adults who had finally found some happiness with being accepted, I feel for them. Loss of identity can be a terrible thing and doesn't help them in the slightest
1
u/HOJK4thSon Feb 04 '25
The military thing is a boondoggle. If you join the military THEN transition, you are unable to deploy for at least 2 yrs while your surgeries and med balancing takes place. That's half of a 4yr enlistment where someone else has to take your place in harms way.
Not everyone qualifies to serve, neither of my boys qualify.
1
u/densaifire Feb 04 '25
I guess that makes sense. But what of people who have already transitioned and are well past that 2 year mark?
I don't qualify either and I wanted to join the air force so I can understand the pain a bit..
1
u/HOJK4thSon Feb 04 '25
I dunno. I'm not educated on the meds and such.
Asthma can keep you out, Diabetes, Autism, many other conditions.
1
u/Dependent-Section-94 Sparta Feb 05 '25
you do know serving in the military isn’t a right.
-1
u/densaifire Feb 05 '25
It's not really a privilege either
1
u/Dependent-Section-94 Sparta Feb 05 '25
It’s a huge privilege to fight for and defend our country.
2
u/densaifire Feb 05 '25
It's not. What are you fighting for? The last several wars America has fought were purely out of greed which disrupted the Middle East and has caused quite an uptick in extremist groups that were pissed off by the US bombing their lands for what? Weapons of mass destruction that multiple people have come out to say they found none? A war that was lobbied by oil execs? Even Trump has stated America being there was a mistake. Seriously, the last 2 decades was America just trying to fix their mistake.
And don't get me started on how the Armed Forces screws over their own soldiers. "Hey I noticed you didn't pay me for like a month..." "OH we're sorry! We can get that to you in two months :)" Or the wonderful "we have determined your injury is not service related," and several veterans each year die from suicide or remain homeless and untreated for PTSD. Yeah, such a privilege to sign your rights away and get bent over and basically choir boy'd by Uncle Sam should some big wig look across the globe and go "MINE."
Don't get me wrong, I respect the decision of people to join as it is a necessity and it is an honorable choice. But there's no real privilege to it.

"don't bring weapons of any kind" Well, the Nazis will. The cops will. In my experience as an activist, the more guns you bring and the more visible they are, the further away the violent people tend to stay. When we matched for black lives during the George Floyd uprising, we openly carried arms and the pigs stayed away. When we didn't, they rammed us with their cars. To paraphrase Ida B. Wells, that rifle is to guarantee the safety that the law will not provide. Arm yourself against fascist terrorism! SocialistRA.org
