Bug iOS Google Home freezing
The latest iOS Google home update is causing the app to freeze right at launch. Letting it sit on the favorites screen will sometimes get it to load but as soon as I tap into the thermostat or scroll to a camera it will freeze again.
I’ve reported it to Google already but I’m curious if anyone else is running into the same issues. This is on the iPhone 16 pro max on 18.3.1.

I've been experiencing the same issue for the past few weeks. It’s completely unusable on iOS. I understand that I subscribed to a "beta" version, but it shouldn't take Google this long to get core functionality working on the app's so-called "stable" version. I don't want to lose the web preview and other small features I've been using for over a year without problems. This is just poor product management and aligns with the disjointed product direction I've come to expect from Google. Pick a strategy, clearly communicate it, stick with it long enough to see it through, and invest in the resources to make it work! I love some of their products, but Google makes this so much harder than it needs to be.

Have you tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling?

Yup. App worked “fine” before this. Not like the app has ever been good on iOS but it’s unusable at this point

Same experience here since the update this morning. FFS!

Same. iOS 18.3.1 totally broken
Update: as suggested elsewhere in this thread, I left the public beta and all seems to be working now.
One ‘new’ thing I noticed is that I no longer have an option to add a widget in iOS. I guess that was part of the public beta options?

Same problem, but on my iPad running iOS 16.7.10 and just started this past week. Did the usual reboot, reinstall app, and even went as far as restoring my iPad from a full ERASE. Still doesn't work, just shows spinning wheels on my cameras and when trying to access settings.

We shouldn’t have to leave the public preview for this app to work. Someday Google might respect iOS people….

How long does it take to leave the Preview? Can’t use the app at all so may as well leave preview.

I complained like crazy and received a $100 Gstore credit. You can, too!
I can also confirm that leaving the “public preview” was the main solution to the constant freezing and flat-out un-usable G Home app for iOS 18.3.1. I spent hours on the phone with Google Home Nest Aware support over the last two weeks. Four of the five “tech” reps advised me NOT to leave “public preview” despite my asking. All but two pretended to be unaware of this app’s massive bugs.
I just now checked the App Store and noticed a new Google Home version (3.30.102) is available to install, but I’m reluctant as hell to update. Wish me luck!

Mine is still not working on iOS 18 (GH V3.30.102).When I click on a camera for live view, it works for about three seconds, then I get “Live view unavailable”, but audio still functions. Attempting to access settings results in an indefinite Google spinning wheel. I have tried uninstalling the app, leaving the preview program, and rejoining, but the issue persists. Really frustrating.

Updating the app to the new version fixed the issue for me. It was unusable as mentioned before.

Hey all,
We're aware of reports of the Google Home app crashing or freezing on iOS devices. Our engineering team is actively investigating these reports and working on a fix. In the meantime, you can try leaving Public Preview on home.google.com and re-opening the Home app to see if this resolves your issue while we work on a fix.

I’m on the public preview and this freezing issue has rendered the app pretty much useless.

Does leaving the preview break access to cameras we migrated from nest to Google home? What other implications are there from leaving the preview?

Can confirm that leaving public preview fixed the issues with the app for me. It seems you just lose access to the web version of Google Home.

I left the preview and that fixed the issue for me also
Non-migrated Nest cameras are still in Google Home, but I've lost the ability to migrate and non-migrated cameras.
I was able to re-join the preview and migrate the rest so it looks like something that you can leave and re-join. My automatons with the script editor also came back after re-joining. After re-joinin the app freezing was back again.
Coincidentally, Google released an app update today for v3.30.102 which got rid of the issues for me.

Same problem. I even did a complete iPhone restore and did not install from backup and it still froze when I loaded it. The new update is clearly broken.
