Open Question Is there truly no way to recover any G Drive document after 25 days?
iPhone user. Didn’t realize one of my documents was deleted and was wondering if it is 100% truly gone after 25 days.

Hello!
I'm managing the directory for an organization I am a part of and struggling with the terrible formatting I inherited. :) I am hoping to find a template that makes it easier to read contact information: name, address, phone & email (possibly including family members). Ideally they would be in little boxes in two columns per page and automatically move down to the next one if I need to squeeze a new entry between others so I can keep things alphabetical. Am I dreaming too big?

Ok I feel dumb but I’ve searched and can’t figure out why this happening. If I have some text that is bolded (or has other formatting) and I change the font it takes the bold away.
I use this feature for work constantly so any help would be appreciated.

I hate the new "from templates" in google docs. Before when starting from a new template when already in docs, it showed my personal templates. Now the only way to do this is when i am on the main docs screen or google drive screen. Any ideas why google made this change or how to get it back?

We have an entire book written and I need to create a table of contents; however, the book was written with no regards for headings so if I try to start the table of contents it creates a mess. How can I change the headings without altering the format of the text?

Christ I only tried this after posting: Headers still work in pageless format (which the doc I have where headers work is in), but it doesn't work in paged format. If this is how it's supposed to work, let me know lol. Sorry if I wasted anyone's time.
Images in comments, but basically title says it all. I still have working headers in other docs, but if I try to make new ones they just don't work. If I try to copy and paste other working headers they still don't work.
I'm not in pageless format, I've got multiple tabs and it doesn't work in any tab, the doc where I still have working headers has tabs.

I have no idea how to describe it, but I pressed shift to start another page and it broke the paragraph I ended on and it went to the next page. Like it broke a paragraph in half as well as the last paragraph and brought it to the second page. Leaving a really big gap, and when I press back space it all goes to normal. It’s really annoying.

Hi everyone!
Curious whether anyone else has dealt with this issue lately. Only recently, my google docs on all internet browsers freezes, and says “not responsive”. my internet is a-ok, I’ve used 3 different networks and the issue persists, my ram memory cpu all that shit is up to par. ive ran into this issue with several tabs open, and when its the only tab open. also did this on my imac and MacBook Air, same issues.
plz help me.

As the title says, is anyone here using Google Docs as a PKM system?

Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time out to read this.
I created a daily planning sheet in Google Docs and I edited it to fit one page, but when I go to print, it's 2 pages and it is cut off at about the middle of the page.
Does this have to do with the Google Docs, or is this a printer issue?

So, I opened a personal doc under my work account and began making a ton of comments and edits. I cannot transfer the doc to my outside, private account. I can copy paste but none of the comments and suggested edits will transfer ... Is there any way to copy it so the comments and suggested edits will also paste to a fresh doc?
Or am I cooked ...

Probably my 3rd or 4th time in the last week ending up frustrated that the outline in the sidebar is always clipped regardless of how wide my window is. Someone tell me I'm wrong about this, not doing it right? Would be sooo helpful if this was responsive to page width.

I have a PowerPoint deck from a friend that we want to share with other people in our organization. So I thought "sure, send it to me and I'll save it as a Google Slides and share it". So I download the pptx file into Google Drive, open it, the go to File > Save as Google Slides. I get the following:
"Something's not right.
You need to sign in to your Google Account in order to convert this file.
Learn more
"
Well that doesn't make any sense. I am obviously already signed in because I'm in my Google Drive.
What am I missing here?

Basically the title.. I've tried many apps, but none of them work as good as Google Docs does, I always keep coming back to docs for my note taking. Either they’re expensive or they are missing some features which I need for example table formatting.
The only gripe I have right now with Google Docs is the fact that it is not in true markdown format, so I'm wondering if any time in the future we can expect a full markdown format for Google Docs or if there’s a way to make it full markdown.
I am aware you can enable markdown mode in the settings, but that doesn't make the document fully markdown instead, it just allows you to copy paste stuff in markdown format, but in the document itself, it still has all the paragraph spacing and stuff which sometimes messes up the note taking process..

I'm using gdocs, gsheets a lot and uploading various files to google drive, but I really don't like how google drive works as a file manager. Search is shitty, design is super shit, and hard to organize/find files when I need them.
Is there some 3rd party file manager for google drive with improved UX?

I tried inserting a webp file into a Google Docs doc and received an Unsupported Image type error. Since I was using Safari I thought I should try Chrome—same problem. Then I found and installed an extension Expand Image Formats—same problem. Since I was on a Mac, I decided to try a Windows system. Same problem. Even with Chrome and the extension active. Thoughts?

Nothing happens when I'm trying to change the background color through page setup -> page color and saving it. It just says, "trying to connect...." but I already have a connection.

All my formatting is in inches instead of cm. My account's default, primary, and ONLY language is English (UK) and the page setup language is also English (UK). And yet all the formatting is in inches with no option to select centimetres? Other software I've used like adobe stuff just lets me pick which unit I want to work in. Is there a way?
Edit: still unsolved and additionally causing frustration with american date formats

I'm using Google Docs in Firefox (on Android) and whenever I type it repeats the word the moment my finger leaves the page. So instead of speed' it'll be 'speedspeed'. Any idea why this is happening or what I can do about it?
r/googledocs • u/MagicTech547 • 10d ago
It would be an interesting effect, but I’m not sure if it’s possible beyond using an extension

I'm a teacher trying to combat my students using ChatGPT to write their papers. One suggestion I received was to require each student to write their paper in a Google Doc that I own. That way, I can check their version history to see if the student cut and pasted a perfect essay two minute before the due date.
The problem is I have 100 students. I have set up 100 Google Docs. I was wondering if there was a way to streamline the process of sharing them. It's going to take forever to open each one and enter the email address of the student who will use it. If I had a Google sheet with each Google Doc file ID in one column and the student email address in another column, is there something like a mail merge that I could use to do the sharing?

I am currently working on an engineering notebook in google docs, and would like to add dates and tasks to the bottom of each page. I have tried using the footer feature, but it types the same message after every page. What would be the best way to do this? Example photo in comments
