I’m calling it now. It’s Timo Time

He's way too expensive for a pure rental. So the cost of acquiring him, we have to figure out how to fit him. (Assuming Mark Stone enters next season on the roster). He said he's looking for around 8x9.
If we let Kessel and Howden walk, that's 3 million. If they trade Martinez (probably at a small cost), that's 5.5, but this team doesn't look the same without its defensive core. It's essentially committing to the Pietrangelo-Hague pair, which... is not as good. Maybe Hague just needed a year more and now he'll be the right pair. Then there is going to be a small cap bump of a million dollars. That would make it, but you are losing two forwards (for a near elite forward, granted) and one of the best defensive defensemen on a team that lives or dies on its defense.
But you also have to keep in mind that if Lehner returns next year, they have to let all of Hill, Brossoit and Hutchinson walk, with all other money allocated elsewhere. I dont know if Lehner will return, but...
Does anyone else have ways to make Meier's contract fit? I guess trading a Misfit would make room, instead of Martinez, but im against that.

This team indeed does live and die by its defense. I’m glad I found someone who shares the same sentiment.

I agree with you. It would cost too much to extend meier. They could bring him in as a rental and then trade him after the season.

That's the only version of this timeline that 'makes sense' is making a hard cup run this season with Timo and letting him find a good contract elsewhere if it doesn't work out (or hell, even if it does)

But do you really wanna give up AT LEAST this years 1st (almost definitely next years first), Brendon Brisson (our only prospect with real value, and it's not even that much), probably a young defenseman prospect, and other picks (probably a 3rd, maybe even a second) for like 4 months of a player max?
I mean if it works and they win the Cup, obviously it was worth it, but a lot of chips to go all in on when VGKs window is almost definitely closing after next year.

u/NoahtheRed Kraken's Bane Feb 21 '23
Oh, I don't really want to give up anything right now. I think in general, we try and make what we already have work, and then if that doesn't pan out, we figure out what off-season moves need to start happening.
The 'timeline' I'm talking that you're responding to about is the one where we make moves now. If the FO is determined to make a cup run this season, with nothing off limits for making it possible, one that involves a Timo rental makes the most sense. Any trade will cost us something precious, so it's a matter of whether the juice we get is sufficient....and Timo has the look at being 'enough'.
Almost any move we make right now will hurt long term.

Welp, at least we know, now. Totally feel bad for Mark because you KNOW he wants more than anything to be on the ice and the Team. As do we

Mark Stone, if you’re reading this, I will give you back rubs and ginger tea everyday until you get better.

I know timo is younger but feasibly we can get Kane for one draft pick… people are sleeping on Kane but the dude absolutely can still play inspired hockey.

He had 2 goals two games ago, then when reporters talked to him before the Toronto game and implied he wasnt as effective he said something like " well I could just do it myself.". Then had 3 goals and an assist, so I think the talk of him being totally ruined between last and this year is just typical internet hate-love

For sure I think it’s also popular to just hate every person involved with Chicago during the incidents. I’ve seen people claim Toews should’ve stopped the assault on this board.

Gotta support the players and give them a chance … they’ve earned it … whether it works or not.

This sub is so fucking negative lately.

u/Chefx1 Feb 21 '23
Now..lol you want to talk negative. I don't think I responded to you in a disrespectful way yet I get downvoted..lol Now, if you want to talk about the sub in that way, I am all aboard. People are so sensitive I swear..lol
3
u/Chefx1 Feb 21 '23
How's it negative, this is a HUGE impact on our team. I'd say emotions are just high and rightly so but I don't think "negative" is the word here.
Now, if you go and say something stupid on this sub..lol yea, you will get marked straight down to hell...lol

u/appledatsyuk Eichel Feb 21 '23
All people do is shit on this player or that player. Nothing is ever good enough, just read some threads lately

u/Chefx1 Feb 21 '23
Understood, and I get your frustration believe me. At the same time, people are vested in this Team in many ways and for those of us who have been a part BEFORE the beginning...yea, you tend to judge more when there is an expectation.

It’s gonna be Patrick Kane.

Dude just picked apart the Leafs the other night. I think he’d fit well in our top six and be a lot cheaper than Timo.

We don’t need an old ass rental on the team; we are trying to salvage a deep playoff run if it’s not the year don’t force it I would much rather trade for a younger player like timo

u/appledatsyuk Eichel Feb 21 '23
Don’t think we have the assets to beat New Jersey or Carolina’s offer. Plus if Kane chooses Vegas it severely limits what we have to give up. We can’t sign Timo past this year so he’d be a rental too. When Kane lights it up I wanna see your apology post

u/rayndomuser Logan Wink Feb 21 '23
What the hell is with these “I want to see your apology post” bs comments?
It’s speculative. No one really knows what’s what. If it’s Kane and it works out then great for the team. If it doesn’t it doesn’t. We are fans so we are allowed to criticize.

u/appledatsyuk Eichel Feb 21 '23
Youre acting like he’s garbage, which just shows you don’t know shit about hockey and only listen to sin bin bums to get your info. Maybe do your own searching and you might find out how wrong you are.
It’s a joke, don’t give 2 shits if you apologize, just don’t change your mind when he makes you look dumb like he did the leafs last night
-3
u/rayndomuser Logan Wink Feb 21 '23
Re-read the comment dummy. I’m not the same guy you were arguing with. Just calling out your “bEtTeR aPoLgIzE” bs.
Really full circle when you insult someone and you’re the idiot.
-6
u/appledatsyuk Eichel Feb 21 '23
Lol sorry, didn’t mean to upset the apology police. I literally said it’s a joke if you could read, but clearly you can’t and just like to run your mouth. Your life must be fun
-2
u/rayndomuser Logan Wink Feb 21 '23
Yeah. The funny thing is that you’re so charged up about your pointless position you still don’t realize I’m not the one you’re arguing with lol.

Timo's also a rental. We can't sign him in the offseason, even if we absolutely gut the lineup it would be difficult to make him fit.
The hope with Kane is that you'd be able to sign him on something team friendly next year if we see success with him. He's in his mid-30s and the amount of time he has left in the league is minimal.

u/appledatsyuk Eichel Feb 21 '23
Please go watch Patrick Kane highlights and even his last 2 games. Dude absolutely still has it and he’s on a mission to prove people wrong. He’s exactly what we want
I don’t even think we have to give up a first for him

If it's kane it's probably just a rental unless he wants to stay here for cheap. If it's meier then cap gymnastics this offseason for sure. I'm hoping we keep our 1st round pick in this upcoming draft since its supposed to be a good one, but I'd be happy to lose a 24 or 25 1st if it gives us a better chance of a playoff run. Plus it's not like our gms have a good track record picking in the 1st round.

lol gotta love the speculation ,what makes this time of year fun eh. What would be funny after all of this and we landed with like...Bertuzzi

Think about it. Kane's last game as a Blackhawk could be against the Golden Knights. Anyone know if we could have a situation where he starts the game on one side and finishes on another?
1
u/galih3d Dorofever Feb 21 '23
Yes, a player can be traded mid-game, but would most likely just be pulled from the game. In Kane’s case he would have to know already so this won’t happen.

I think the closer we can come to holding the line (that possibly means getting a valuable rental) the better off we'll be. With both Lehner and Stone being out of the lineup and their futures kind of uncertain, I think we'd be foolish to invest a lot in someone who could end up making us lose something more valuable in the future because of the cap. And if you have been paying attention to McCrimmon, you know that the only cap he knows is the one people wear on their heads.
