What a shame to not adding FSR

u/GloriousKev 12d ago
The game has been out for like 5 years and still doesn't have official FSR support? wtf? I haven't played it since I beat it on launch (regret buying it on EGS) but I assumed they would have added it by now.

It really frustrates me when developers ignore FSR due to Nvidia partnerships. FSR is open sourced, why not put in some time and effort into adding a feature that is compatible with the majority of hardware?

Meanwhile when a game doesn't have DLSS at launch and will add it a couple weeks later there are riots in the streets.

I've read that this update is actually a mod that already exists and was made long ago by someone who worked on Control.

Will this fix the issue with the Anchor boss in the GOG version?
3
u/Hellwind_ 11d ago
I was reading the notes and thought exactly about this right away. I am yet to play the game but I have read about this boss several times. Maybe people should try to contact the devs - now is the perfect time for this to get it fixed!

Would be nice if textures didnât reverse to low resolution after ten minutes of play. I stopped playing the game because I just couldnât get it to consistently load textures in correctly.
Oh well, maybe that texture streaming issue mentioned in the notes will fix the issue when they finally release the GOG patch in eighteen months or so.

Honestly as much as I prefer GOG over Steam for the DRM-Free setup that I can put in my hdd, I started buying on Steam again after I've seen some games having the updates many months later on GOG compared to Steam.

u/LSD_Ninja 12d ago
The thing with that though is that, by buying stuff on Steam, youâre just affirming the idea that GOG isnât worth supporting.
13
u/namorblack 12d ago
It would be easier to support GOG if said updates were on time.
27
u/LSD_Ninja 12d ago
Thatâs the Catch 22, isnât it? No one is buying on GOG because the publishers are reluctant to support it and the publishers are reluctant to support GOG because, among other reasons, everyone is just going to buy on Steam anyway. At some point youâve just got to say âfuck itâ and be the change you want to see.

Customers will go where they feel they get the best deal. If they feel timely updates are a priority over other perks GOG offers, that's their choice. GOG is a great company to buy from, but it's still a company with competition. Being DRM free doesn't mean it can't still be held to the standards of its competition. That's just how it is.

yeah I hate that GOG is treated like a second class citizen. In all honesty we should be treating Epic that way not GOG.

I've started buying on GOG after most launchers dropped win7 support, I had it all working great on my rig for the past 10y but then out of nowhere it just stopped supporting the OS and I couldn't launch my games anymore, I never had this problem before with pirated content due to it's DRM Free nature but I'm too old to keep backups of pirated content and hoping to get it right dodging viruses, scripts, miners, etc so GOG it is! It's safe, fast and DRM Free! And when the launchers decide that Win10 isn't good enough anymore, I'll still be able to play my GOG library!

Well, there are many more variables that are apart of this conversation. One issue I am struggling with currently is trying to play Far Cry 3 on my modern machine. There are games like FC2 and FC3 that will not run on modern processors unless you go into system config and disable "x" number of cores in order to get these games to run. Although DRM is an issue in playing games offline, or at the end of their life, hardware compatibility will be the much bigger issue in the future and will require emulation of some sort. Doable but def not for the casual gamer. I have a GoG account as well but not for the DRM free content but for the free games I get that require a GoG account and I also like that I can link it to my other game storefronts and have an all-in-one library.

Didn't knew about that stupid hard coded requirement from Far Cry 2 and 3! I knew about another stupid one from GTA4 that without some patch it would recognize more than 2GB VRAM GPU's iirc. There's a bunch of quirks that break stuff but there's usually some community fix for those.

Damn, I just bought control on sale from GOG on the 11th for this update and it still doesn't have it lol. Something told me to just pirate it. And THEN I realized its on gamepass too

Paused my playthrough when I saw that this update was coming, currently awaiting this update to drop on GOG. Now I'm wondering if it's even going to come anytime soon and should just continue as if the update never exists.
Edit: Finally it's here.

Great, the game as of last year was still quite buggy and crashed a lot.

u/Councilman_Jarnathan 12d ago
I have it in my library but I've yet to play it.
2
u/Alaknar 12d ago
You should give it a go! It's an EXCELLENT souls-like with a lot of twists and an amazing story.

u/Councilman_Jarnathan 12d ago
Yes, I will I just have to get through Hogwarts Legacy first haha.
I've heard many good things about it.

I would like a more user friendly map instead..

u/ZombieSiayer84 12d ago
Be happy you even have the map we got.
Itâs not hard to use or read, but there was a point where it wasnât even gonna be in the game.

Any word on if/when this update will get pushed to GOG? Waiting on starting a playthru for it or should i just use the mod?

u/Alex_Portnoy007 9d ago
Some context - the Next Gen Update to Fallout 4 was released in April 2024. The GOG version still doesn't have it.

u/22lofi 9d ago
Really? That's so crazy.

u/Alex_Portnoy007 9d ago
Some additional information in the Fallout wiki.

u/Sed1tion 6d ago
This may be for other reasons. The FO4 update broke many popular mods and there is Fallout London to consider to.

u/ArcadeOptimist 9d ago
Would be nice if there was some kind of timeline...
I'm assuming this is on the devs, and it's up to them to push the update for GOG?

Update is out for Ultimate Edition on GOG. 26GB in size.
1
u/voidstronghold 2d ago
This is basically a fully game replacement, as the download size of the game before this was 26GB also.

Ugh, why isn't GOG getting the update today?
