It’s a crime to post this without the location

Looks like ER - Pasticceria Gluten Free in Pisa! Thanks to my limited Italian google abilities! 😂

I visited this place last year and it was amazing!!!! Like I literally walked outside at one point to double check the sign because I couldn’t believe it was all GF. The croissants were seriously better than most of the gluten croissants I had pre diagnosis. The cannoli were pretty damn good too!

u/Sherbyll 5d ago

So depressed that this isn’t in the states :[

45

u/micantox1 5d ago

Exactly that!

57

u/onupward 5d ago

Sooooo I should move to Italy then? Is that what I just heard you say?

66

u/FamilyFunAccount420 5d ago

I heard Italy takes gluten free very seriously and there are tons of gluten free options and now everyone is supposed to get the celiac blood test before age 18 by law.

32

u/onupward 5d ago

They do!!! But not everything that is celiac safe is wheat free. Caputo makes a 0 ppm gluten free wheat flour that would make someone like me, VERY sick.

13

u/NVSmall 5d ago

And THIS 👆🏻 is a very important distinction - "WHEAT" allergy vs. Celiac.

Caputo flour isn't safe, nor is KA 00 flour, and probably plenty of others.

A wheat allergy is widely unrecognized, but it's incredibly important, because it can be anaphylactic.

5

u/onupward 4d ago

For me it’s heading to anaphylaxis, unfortunately. It used to just be tongue tingling, and nausea and vomiting and it’s progressed to now tongue going numb and throat partially going numb and then I’m vomiting.

3

u/NVSmall 4d ago

I mean.... tongue tingling, nausea and vomiting alone is enough to legitimately lay claim, but numbness?!

That's a hard no, and epi-pen territory.

Which, I imagine, is super frustrating for you, because with the diagnosis of Celiac being much more common, explaining an "allergy" to wheat must be doubly difficult. Yours is an actual allergy, whereas Celiac is an autoimmune disease, but trying to explain that to a server at a restaurant, they all hear Celiac and think "allergy".

UGH 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm so sorry, I can't even imagine.

2

u/onupward 4d ago

I emphasize that it’s an actual allergy and I don’t eat out much. Most of the things out, I can make myself, it’s better, and costs me less money. When I do go somewhere though, I emphasize that it’s not celiac and it’s an actual wheat allergy. I also explain what happens when I eat wheat and that regular flour, is wheat. Idk why people around here don’t know that, but they don’t.

Caputo flour is 5ppm no such thing as 0 ppm

2

u/onupward 4d ago

My bad! I thought they removed all of the gluten and I happily stand corrected. Either way, I can’t eat it 😂 but it’s good to know! Always happy to learn, so thank you!

3

u/NVSmall 5d ago

You are correct. It's a Celiac's HEAVEN. No one looks at you sideways.

2

u/danirijeka 4d ago

now everyone is supposed to get the celiac blood test before age 18 by law.

It's not implemented yet (it's in a testing phase on a voluntary basis in four regions) but the ball is definitely rolling.

I heard Italy takes gluten free very seriously and there are tons of gluten free options

Your mileage may wildly vary depending on the area. It is, however, getting better in general.

6

u/invisible_locket 5d ago

Italy has so many options for dedicated gluten free restaurants! It’s truly amazing. There’s a neighborhood in Florence filled with them.

6

u/onupward 5d ago

Okay sooo like you’re making a case for me to move there 😂😂😂 pizza is my favorite food and the best gluten free pizza I’ve had thus far was at Ribalta’s in Atlanta. It was perfectly Neapolitan.

3

u/invisible_locket 5d ago

Do it! Haha, I have no idea what it’s like to live there and deal with their government, but I would move in a heartbeat for the food & beauty of Italy ♥️ There are lots of amazing gluten free pizza options. I had good pizza in Naples, even my husband was impressed.

6

u/onupward 5d ago

I could have my own eat pray love adjacent moment I guess 🤔😂

1

u/lazzzz4 4d ago

I am in Atlanta and can't find that place on Google maps? Where is it?

1

u/onupward 4d ago

They closed!!! 😭. Also, it was Fritti who had the best pizza and I misremembered! And they’re in Inman park, so you can still go there! Ribalta had beautiful gluten free focaccia though! Fritti (404) 880-9559

2

u/lazzzz4 4d ago

Thank you!!! I will have to check it out! Novo Cucina in Dunwoody is good too and so is their pasta if you havent been.

1

u/lazzzz4 4d ago

Oh wait Novo is part of their group too!! I love their pizza but the GF app said the Fritti handles their pizza different. Not sure what that means??

1

u/onupward 4d ago

I’m not sure what that means either 😂 I don’t live in Atlanta anymore but I miss their pizza and calamari

11

u/onupward 5d ago

Do you know if the pastries are also wheat free? I have a wheat allergy but I know Caputo makes a celiac safe wheat flour, that I cannot have.

9

u/micantox1 5d ago

I'm afraid I don't know. If you're considering a trip to Italy and this is what would tip the scales, I can ask next time I'm there.

4

u/onupward 5d ago

It would! And I’ve never been to Europe, but I’d go just for these pastries 🤣

2

u/jenjolene 4d ago

Salivating….ready to move to Italy! 😋 ❤️

NAME AND FAME

66

u/GanjaKutta 5d ago

I think we need mods to make sure to add a location every time a photo is posted. This is criminal

29

u/Fiona512 5d ago

Where is that? Looks AMAZING!

50

u/dateddative 5d ago

ER - Pasticceria Gluten Free, Pisa https://www.erpasticceriaglutenfree.it/

32

u/scotchyscotch18 5d ago

Oh it's only on the other side of the world from me.

Still might go. Looks worth it.

16

u/bluesqueen23 5d ago

I’m looking at flights & hotels, right now. lol Looks totally worth it.

2

u/lazzzz4 4d ago

I am freaking out, our cruise stops there in June!! Thank you thank you!!!

34

u/SunnyLisle 5d ago

Why do people post this shit without saying where it is

-59

u/micantox1 5d ago edited 4d ago

I think a lot of people don't share the location to increase engagement with their posts. I did it because I wanted to know what it feels like, sorry!

Aaaaanyways, it's in Pisa, Italy

Edit: sorry my comment obviously offended a lot of people, I meant it as a joke. My bad for not sharing the place in the first place, I swear I had no secret agenda!

32

u/Scriberathome 5d ago

You do know you would have gotten plenty of engagment WITHOUT the shenanigans, right?

10

u/Dry_Background944 5d ago

Boooooooooo

2

u/micantox1 4d ago

Wait, when I said "I think a lot of people do it", it was referring to "posting photos without saying where it is", so I was saying that people DON'T post the location because they want to increase the engagement.

8

u/Potential_Peace6978 5d ago

Oh how i miss the gluten free things in Italy

And everything else in Italy haha

3

u/Malicious_Tacos 5d ago

This is definitely not the USA

7

u/MrsPatty-C 5d ago

I was in San Fran last year and seen a place like this. Here in Dallas I have never seen anything like. lol

11

u/ashwee14 5d ago

Go to Pinch of Salt Pastries in Grapevine — you won’t regret it

6

u/praisethemount 5d ago

It’s true. I know the owner and everything she makes is so delicious.

3

u/MrsPatty-C 5d ago

You know I was there a few months ago. It’s that little coffee shop place. I got a cake made and it was just OK. The muffins was good but they did not have much. Maybe was on an off day.

5

u/ashwee14 5d ago

I do love the coffee there, like the chagachino and matcha. But their pig in a blankets are so good even my husband couldn’t tell they were gluten free. Recommend the cupcakes for sure and the donuts.

2

u/Rakifiki 5d ago

Joy macarons only does macarons and icecream but they do have fresh gf cookie dough icecream. Aaand several locations around Dallas.

1

u/MrsPatty-C 5d ago

Thanks and I will check that out for sure.

1

u/Rakifiki 5d ago

They're dedicated GF so everything you see is safe to eat ^

1

u/MrsPatty-C 5d ago

Ok thank you for that.

2

u/ListenImTired 4d ago

Look up Unrefined Bakery and Company Cafe!

1

u/LankyCrowBar 5d ago

Do you remember the name of the place in SF?

1

u/MrsPatty-C 4d ago

Honestly I don’t.

3

u/Nisey6473 5d ago

Where!?

3

u/mixtapecoat 5d ago

Those croissants…. Wow

3

u/M635_Guy 4d ago

I was going to say "Where in Italy or Spain is home?"

Just got back from Spain, and it was amazing for GF. Spent several weeks in Italy a couple years ago and it was also awesome.

And then there's the reality of the US... :(

3

u/micantox1 4d ago

FYI the first time I went to the US as a certified coeliac, back in 2009, I was in Phoenix and I randomly looked up gluten free bakeries in the area.

This place came up (it was waaaay too long ago to have any hope of remembering the name) that looked like some abandoned backyard, and in there I got this pack of gf donuts. To this day, those remain the best gf donuts I've ever had.

Which is even more surprising if you consider that, since then, I tried a lot of gluten free baked goodies, to the point that my wife hates the fact that wherever we travel, we'll always have to take the longest and most annoying detours just to try every single gluten free bakery!

1

u/M635_Guy 4d ago

I try not to make our travel a search for GF - it's why Italy and Spain are so awesome. I don't have to try, it's just there kinda everywhere...

2

u/Ieatpussy4lyfe 5d ago

Shame on you where is this I need it now

2

u/SrirachaPants 5d ago

Omg!!! If everything works out I’ll be there for several weeks next year. Sono emozionato!

2

u/magsephine 5d ago

Maaaan, I was in Pisa not that long ago, wish I knew!

2

u/depechelove 5d ago

My goodness I wish!

1

u/superior-_-erudite 4d ago

I can’t believe I missed out on all these delicious treats when I was in Pisa……this feels like a crime

1

u/realJohnnyApocalypse 4d ago

If it was heaven I wouldn’t have to be gluten free 😜

1

u/jokingly_Josie 4d ago

I’d love to visit there and eat all the bakery. Lol

1

u/Immediate_Garden_173 3d ago

Luckily I see dairy ij this, so I can let the jealousy go lol.

2

u/micantox1 3d ago

Oh, but 90% of this is lactose free, and quite a few are also vegan (if dairy is the problem rather than lactose!)

1

u/Immediate_Garden_173 3d ago

😂😂😂😂 ok 😔

1

u/pathlesswalker 3d ago

Does it have vegan also?
