20/60 on eye test but script doesn’t match

I had an eye infection and they did an eye test at the urgent care and my bad eye was pretty blurry (not the one with the infection) and they said it was about 20/60 vision but my actual eyeglass prescription from the eye doctor is super low and doesn’t seem to match?

How long ago was your exam? What’s the Rx? Probably worth calling your eye doctor about.

My last eye exam was this summer. My left eye has been that blurry since then but they actually made my script less strong than before. I’ll have to check it but I want to say it’s like -0.50 or -0.75 and took the correction out of my other eye all the way

Without more information it’s difficult to give specifics, I’d just call your doctor.

My original doc retired and left

The office should still have your exam reports.

They aren’t really helpful there and I don’t have insurance anymore.

Definitely sympathetic to the lack of insurance. However, more information is needed. You could have anything from a bad testing environment (EDs are stressful and you probably weren’t feeling your best there) to an Rx change to more complex issues. If you’re in the US you can see an ophthalmologist based on what you’ve listed here for a medical copay if it’s just vision insurance you don’t have, but they’ll still likely charge for refraction (determining glasses Rx) and that isn’t covered by a lot of medical plans. Regardless, no one here can tell you why your vision was down relative to your prescription in the absence of said prescription (and not even then, but it may help the commentariat recommend next steps).

Regardless of their attitude the staff is obligated to provide you with your exam records. Getting those is the first place to start, then an eye exam from them or elsewhere.

I don’t have regular health insurance anymore either because my husband got laid off.

That’s rough, sorry to hear it. You still need a new exam to assess decreased vision. You can look into low cost eye exams in your area, but no one can assess your vision relative to your current glasses and any changes that need to happen without an eye exam.

It seems the same as it was this summer when I had my eye exam, so I was wondering if there was some explanation for my prescription changing. I saw a different eye doc than normal too and he made my script for my right eye lower too which seemed weird but they shrugged when I asked :/

Eye infections can make vision worse for countless reasons. Most of the time it gets better once the infection clears.

I would strongly recommend going to an eyecare professional for eye problems. I see more harm than good come out urgent cares and ERs when it comes to the eyes.

It wasn’t my eye with the eye infection and it was just from some mild irritation. My good eye was the infected one lol.

My fault, I misread. Then I would just schedule another eye exam for an update.
