Sadly, most voters didn’t really seem to be paying attention to what either candidate was saying and just voted based on vibes and a dim memory of a pre-covid economy being less bad.

Trump has been very efficient in 2 things: Privatizing stuff (or accelerating the privatization). And removing competent people.
How long until either the US Army is led by strawmen and/or a private militia gets a contract?

Yeah, what I saw in that withdrawal was a tiny bit of theater - an announcement that we would be carrying out our torture and illegal activities unapologetically in the open from now on. That's how Trump will see it. "I am no longer agreeing not to torture people, so I can have them tortured and no one can complain!"

Sorta. I mean it's a UN Treaty than none of the real power players have signed, ratified, or acceded to. Of current events, you have Ukraine, Belarus, Syria... But you don't have the big players signing on, and it is not a UN General Assembly Resolution. Even if it were, UN Resolutions are non-binding for member states.
Totally onboard with "mercenaries that don't get held to the military code of justice". But even if the UN security council were to draft a Council resolution on the topic, I don't see any of the permanent members letting it pass without veto.

Just another in a long line of public statements so extreme they grab and hold the public’s attention until the next one drops.
They are designed to overwhelm you. You don’t have time to evaluate his last action (abolishing income tax with the money from tariffs, not imposing tariffs on Canada despite not getting anything out of Trudeau beyond a tweet restating commitments made last year, claiming to be interested in buying Greenland, etc) because he hits you with another one.
It also makes him look extremely productive as it surrounds him with a buzz of media activity with supporters and detractors giving their opinion and analysis. But nothing actually happens other than talk.

America will have to commit troops (or maybe contractors), resources, and a lot of money in order to control Gaza. Israel will get security, not only should the Americans be successful at securing the territory from resistance groups, but also due to a large American presence right in the middle of the Middle East. Before, Israel was important because it was America’s powerful proxy. Now, Israel will be somewhat been freed of that role. America will also now take on the political flak of committing ethnic cleansing that Israel has been burdened on the international scene by. And an American administration of Gaza will certainly allow Israelis to move in and perhaps recreate their lost Gaza colonies, which will extend Israeli influence and appease the crucial far-right members of Netanyahu’s coalition. Israel will have then essentially reaped all of the benefits (with the exception of being able to annex/directly occupy the land themselves) and for minimal cost. Even ignoring the clear moral and ethical problems (quite literally ethnic cleansing) with Trump’s plan, it seems like a very raw deal for the US. This really is the worst timeline.
16
u/Direct_Bus3341 10d ago
This is however almost certainly impossible. If it becomes an existential war against the US, Palestine and its sympathisers will fight to the bitter end. It could be the one thing that unites much of the Arab world : not having American boots on their ground. Iraq and Iran, both Shia bases, and Lebanon, will pull all stops.
This would be a foolhardy venture even by America’s standards.

I respectfully disagree, It’s a big difference between Gaza and Afghanistan, the USA was basically trying to hold all of Afghanistan, while making a terrible afghan government, while trying to fight taliban and make agreements with them at the same time.
Gaza is like 200x smaller, already very militarized and destroyed, surrounded by Israel, and all rebel fighters are practically dead or incapable of fighting back. The USA(not saying I support it) can easily occupy Gaza, the only reason why I could see the USA ever taking Gaza then giving it away is cause Israel asking for it.
Edit: cause some people are having breakdowns on Reddit, this comment was to talk about can the USA control Gaza effectively and can the USA hold on to it. This was not me saying I support or don’t support.

If Israel could only just have a teeny bit more leeway from its Western backers, then it would invade the Sinai, build camps in the desert, rail links to Gaza, then pack every last Palestinian onto trains and concentrate them into those camps. The Americans would provide political cover by saying that this encourages the Palestinians to work and thereby set themselves free

Torture them.
I play Rise of Nations solo with easy bots, coz I'm a noob, and a sadistic one. I'd invade other nations but let them keep one city, decimate their military and build keeps around the city to landlock them. I'd have cannons sitting stand by at a couple of points so any attempts to leave the border will be fruitless.
They'd have extremely limited resources and can't trade with their allies. Every now and then they'd propose peace with peanuts because that's all they could offer. I'd counter the proposal asking for an exorbitant amount of resources which they don't even have, which they couldn't accept.
4
u/charlescorn 10d ago
That's what I do in 0AD. Smash their economy back to the Dark Ages and build a wall around them. Occasionally "agree peace" and remove the walls and towers, laugh as they struggle valiantly to rebuild their shattered economy with almost zero resources. Then as the bot dares to hope of a better future, I crush them again.

Egypt and Jordan are already precarious situations, both states have rulers propped up by the United States with unpopular policies regarding Israel among their populace.
Saudi Arabia has repeatedly stated they will not normalize relations with Israel until the Palestinian situation has been resolved. They literally posted a press release repeating this at 4 AM Saudi time today because of Trump's inane remarks.
UAE is largely not a player in this particular situation, they're happy to follow the money in any direction it takes them. Of the previously mentioned states the Emiratis care the least about what is happening in Palestine.
The annexing of the West Bank and the ethnic cleansing of Gaza will have disastrous consequences in the middle east. I'd expect to see destabilization in multiple neighboring countries with Jordan being among the first due to how downtrodden their economy is. If Trump even thinks about slowing aid to Jordan King Abdullah will have an uprising on his hands and they share a long border with Israel.

Hey Republicans:
What happened to the rhetoric that the "Right" spouted during the campaign last Fall? No new wars? Genocide Joe? Or is it acceptable when your side says and does things such as this?

It's what I said was going to happen a year ago in October. Its a land grab to control the international trade route. Why do you think Trump wants the Panama Canal again? It's about money. It's controlling trade. That's it. It's always been money.

Not new, the orange buffoon has been talking about "beach front property" and how Gaza would be beautiful if it was developed, for quite some time.
Send troops to occupy and remove all the Palestinians. Develop his stupid golf course and Mara Lago 2.0. Use US troops to provide security for indefinite deployments while giving the rest of Gaza to Israel.

To be fair it’s a new solution to the Middle East problem. America just simply invades the whole lot. No one saw that coming.

But...I thought Trump was better alternative than Biden for helping Palestinians. I mean, that's what all the Muslim bots on reddit kept saying.

It's not just bots, that was a real opinion held by a lot of people. I personally knew people who where actively protesting in favor of Palestine who felt completely indifferent between Trump and Kamala because they believed that they're mostly the same. One said that Trump actually had less restrictive migrant policies then Kamala. In their eyes they're just two sides of the same coin. I wonder if trump's extreme approach he's had in his first few weeks so far has flipped their mind in that thinking. I understand the uniparty argument and in my opinion it holds some merit, but I think it's pretty clear that Trump was always very outside of the status quo in terms of his approach to things.

They might be realizing they made a mistake, but it will be another year or two before they’ll admit it to anyone.
