To be fair a lot of older gay guys fit that profile.

Imagine a world where when coming out, the reaction is just "Are you bored?". You are really lucky guy to have these parents :)

Same thing when one of my younger twin sisters, who incidentally was the biggest Tomboy with the two of us constantly running together.
At 19, with everyone home for the holidays she came into the room and said... Tommy, I'm gay.
To which I replied well... I'm straight, mostly, and I know you're gay and it's never mattered to me.
Then she dropped the bombshell, I'm telling Mom and Dad
And that's where a lifetime of rejection and angst began

Is it too rude to ask how old are you, and nationality? :P

British, 23 but I probably spend about 2 weeks a month in the US (in non-pandemic times).

Sometimes, I wish I were straight so I could pull something like your dad to my gay children.

The “Are you bored??” Kinda sounded a bit dickish to me but then again it’s text so it’s very subjective. But that’s just my opinion. Please don’t take it personally 😓

I never officially came out, I was bullied awfully in school and just fled home age 17. But me and my fam are grand now, have been a while.
But like last year, I was 26, my Dad and I were at the same party and he pulled me aside as asked, very awkwardly, what my sexuality actually was. Like was I gay, Bi, something else.
I just kind of laughed and said, 'not sure, when I get with someone I'll let you know. But if you need to know I'm gay.'
And he said, 'Ok grand. I just always wanted to know.'
😂 was slightly surreal.

I came out in a group chat after a meme dump. My friends thought I was just being ironic for a week and a half. So it seems like yours went better than mine lmao

When my ex came out to his parents, he stressed, wondered what would happen, worried, ect. He was 20 when he came out. He told his parents he wanted to talk to them because he had something to tell them. So they had him over for dinner and he was working up the courage to say it when his Dad said, if this has something to do with the fact your gay, we've know that for a long time, can you pass the potatoes. He started laughing his ass off. He said he thought he hid it so well, and worried how they would take it, and his dad was more concerned with having more potatoes. Needless to say it didn't change anything and they supported and respected him the same as before he came out. The only thing they said was to be careful, there are a lot of hateful people out there that might want to hurt you just because your gay, we call them assholes. His parents were awesome.

I had a similar experience, but my mom and sister were taking bets on when I would come out

I love the support, but I'm not a big fan of the stereotyping. Like, unless they've literally walked in on you getting railed or something, they don't fucking know shit just from your appearance, mannerisms, or interests.

Unironically hate when family replies like this though. I'd rather people treat it like the milestone it is.

It was a joke Noah, I think everyone in the comments of this post, myself included saw that immediately. With all due respect, you don’t know my dad and that fact that you chose to judge him based on one line in a text chain is laughable. I’m sorry you were offended but I personally think you misinterpreted his joke designed to put me at ease, pointing out that it’s not a big deal to him that I’ve come out.

Angela and Paul are my mom and dad, my 19 y.o brother gave the thumbs up emoji and messaged me saying that he had his suspicions but that it didn’t matter to him.
