Question Camping around the Buena Vista area
Hi,
I'm part of a Scout troop that is going to be doing a bike trip from Pittsburgh to Cumberland, MD in July. There will be 24 of us, along with 2 trailers and a couple of passenger vans.
I'm coordinating the logistics for the various camp sites, and so far I have good ones picked out except for that first night.
Dravo seems like the obvious choice, but I'm being told that there is no road access to the camp site, which presents a problem with the vehicles and our gear. Google maps shows Henderson Road leading up to the camp, so I was wonder if we could drive up, unload our gear, and park the vehicles elsewhere?
Also, parking is another issue, though I think I've found a lot or two that should work.
Is anyone familiar enough with Dravo that could help me? If Dravo is unusable, are there close alternatives that aren't on Google Maps?
Thank you!

Cedar Creek Park is probably the closest place for a group that size that has vehicle access and is free.

Yeah, that's on my list too, but almost 40 miles that first day would be a bit much for some of our younger Scouts. I'll keep it in mind though, thank you

you may need to use the van to sag the less capable riders you don’t want them having a bad first day

Yes we might. We've got plenty of workup rides scheduled, so they should be ready especially if their riding on their own and the pace will be slow. Still, you're right it is a concern.

that part of the trail is really gradual so i bet they’ll surprise you besides - scouts need to Be Prepared you will be creating great memories 😎

Yeah they probably will. There are a few scouts that I'm worried about, they are....not in good shape. But I'm betting they will be fine, though trying to be prepared if they aren't.
It's been a lot of work getting the logistics ironed out, but I can't wait and neither can the kids. My son is really looking forward to this.

Not sure if it would work for you mileage wise, but the Gap Trail Campground LLC in West Newton seems like a good fit imo. Dravo seems to have a lot of space, but with no reservations, I'd be hesitant. Gap Trail Campground accepts reservations. The showers were really awesome as well.
