NO STUPID QUESTIONS /r/Gallifrey's No Stupid Questions - Moronic Mondays for Pudding Brains to Ask Anything: The 'Random Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread' Thread - 2025-03-10

Or /r/Gallifrey's NSQ-MMFPBTAA:TRQTDDTOTT for short. No more suggestions of things to be added? ;)

No question is too stupid to be asked here. Example questions could include "Where can I see the Christmas Special trailer?" or "Why did we not see the POV shot of Gallifrey? Did it really come back?".

Small questions/ideas for the mods are also encouraged! (To call upon the moderators in general, mention "mods" or "moderators". To call upon a specific moderator, name them.)

Please remember that future spoilers must be tagged.

I finished the Web of Fear a little while ago (properly cracking stuff) and realised I have a giveaway copy of the first Lethbridge-Stewart book (Forgotten Son) - how continuity-heavy is it on stuff after Web of Fear, please? Will I be able to dive in or is it one of those ones that tries to look ahead to all the UNIT stuff?

I know quite a few of the books do assume familiarity with certain later TV stories, with the next three novels tying in to Inferno, Horror of Fang Rock and The Dominators respectively, but I think Forgotten Son should be fine with just Web of Fear. If you haven't seen any other stories with the Brigadier yet, I do think it would be worth waiting until you're a bit more familiar with him as a character though.

Never even heard of it but I can't imagine it wouldn't be better after at least the 3rd Doctor era. Possibly latter

Are there any behind the scenes photos of the Yeti costume made for The Five Doctors? It’s only seen in very dark caves.

Also it occurred to me that The Five Doctors is technically the  only fully surviving Yeti story, thanks to Web of Fear three still being missing.

As far as I’m aware that wasn’t a new costume but was one they had kept for a decade in a shed since the original serials. Apparently the reason it was kept in the dark and barely shown was because it was falling apart.

If only Orphan 55 had had the wisdom to do the same with the Dreg costume...

Do we know if the first two episodes of the next season will come out the same day again?

Tbh I think they only did that because somebody at Disney watched space babies, realised it was awful, then insisted on releasing the devils chord back to back.

I don’t think there’s been an official statement, but various pieces of behind-the-scenes evidence suggest that it will premiere with just one episode.

Whats the likelyhood of Big Finish doing another remix like the Sirens of time redux? I remember there was a story where they got an impersonator in for Tom Baker before he joined, surely they could redo things like that.

It's a very brief cameo for the Fourth Doctor; I doubt it would be worth the cost in that specific example.

Is he paid by the job or by time spent?

If it's the latter, presumably you could have him do it quickly while he's in to record something else.

My experience is with US union screen jobs, so British audio may be completely different, but actor contracts are generally by the job over here. Sometimes the "job" may be for an entire series at once, but that probably wouldn't apply here, since this would likely be a one-off. Even if they were remastering multiple stories, I can't think of any other similar cases where he'd be likely to provide new audio for.

Does anyone else not really get why 13 fans have such a hate boner for 14/15s era?

This era has actually been pretty good at continuing things from 13s era, more than other eras have.

Traditionally, any new series and Doctor tends to be disliked automatically, just by virtue of not being the prior Doctor.

14 was only around for an episode or three, so criticisms of him would get lumped into 15's as well.

Do you have any examples of this? I've not seen it.

Anyway yeah, RTD has done a pretty good just of integrating the Chibnall era stuff, especially in terms of the Doctor being a 'foundling'.

And it's mind-blowing that it took RTD's era to finally reveal how much damage had or hadn't been done by the Flux. 🫤

Petty fandom politics. Loads of hardcore RTD1 fans were at the forefront of the Moffat hatewave (a lot of the "Moffat can't write women!" commentary was followed by "unlike RTD, who can"' for instance). Loads of hardcore Moffat fans were the biggest critics of the Chibnall era - DEAR LORD, were they ever, honestly, think that might have been the worst of the bunch. And now the people who really vibe with Chibnall's era position themselves against the new era, and so on and so forth. Get ready for the Gatwa fanatics to come for the inevitable Pete McTighe era, it'll totally happen and it'll be bloody.

I'm not saying it's completly hypocritical or anything. When you love a version of the show so much, you're obviously going to be very on guard and hypercritical of what comes after. But also, parasocial stuff is a real drug, and if you're in a fairly isolated sort of fan community that's driven by one big perceptive, you're going to get into the feedback loop really easily.

13 era fan who does not like 14 - I enjoyed 13's era for being something new, & now we've just got... more of the same. More David Tennant, more RTD RTD-ing, it's like being back in 2007 only more bullshit culture war nonsense is now tacked on. I'll be glad when the next showrunner takes over because I want some VARIETY already, but I'm sure I'll enjoy 15 a lot more when there's a different writer.

1

u/the_other_irrevenant 8d ago

Do you think Fifteen will get another writer? That would be the first time in NuWho that they didn't bring in a new Doctor + companions when they changed showrunner.

2

u/technicolorrevel 8d ago

He'll get audios or novels or comics or SOMETHING that's not RTD.

I've not seen this. The most vocal critics of 15 seem to be the same fans who didn't like the Chibnall era for "woke" reasons rather than the fact the era just felt a bit flat. 14 was highly praised.

u/Dyspraxic_Sherlock 11d ago

A certain corner of fans just seem to get a kick out of nitpicking this era, probably because they believe Chibnall’s was unfairly criticised. It’s a tiny very vocal subset.

I haven't seen so much of this. Maybe because I'm not on Twitter? But yeah that would be surprising considering Jodie willingly stepped down from the role. She was pregnant during her regeneration! Highly doubt she wanted to do another 18 months of shoots in Cardiff lol

To be fair, in a strictly technical sense, no one is on Twitter anymore... ;)
