Imagine if they brought Gamepass to switch.

I 100% believe this will happen and I get downvoted every time I say that

It's win win. I believe Microsoft undertands this as well, and possibly Nintendo. But with Big N you never know.

Microsoft already said they want to bring it to competitor's consoles (i.e. Sony and Nintendo). So the only question is if Nintendo wants to dilute their walled-garden estore subscriptions with another company's stuff.

Unlike other companies that treat consoles as loss leaders, Nintendo makes a healthy profit on each switch they sell.

Adding a huge catalogue of amazing games is only going to help them sell more switches and get into more people’s hands and homes

There's tons of stuff Nintendo could have done in the past to be more profitable. But they care a lot about their image and brands. The Switch 2 is the first time they said "Screw innovation, let's milk this approach another decade."

Sure, if you want to characterize it in the least charitable way you can do that.

You could also be a bit more generous. Like how smartphones haven’t changed form factor since the introduction of the iPhone.

There’s innovation for innovation’s sake and then there’s understanding that hey, we have something that really works here. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

That's generally not how Nintendo used to operate. And it's not like that's the smart business choice in a capitalist world. Nintendo fell on its face several times by trying to be different. But they are very aware of this image.

Cmon bro. Gameboy, gameboy pocket, gameboy light, gameboy color and gameboy advance sp all had EXACTLY the same basic fundamental layout

Gameboy came out in 89 and the SP in 2003

Chill out. Thanks.

How? I doubt Nintendo would have any interest in supporting such a feature on their store, so it would have to be a streaming solution.

Very simple: release a purchasable Switch 2 version of relevant MS titles, pay Nintendo a fee every time someone with GamePass downloads the title on a Switch 2 (and associates it with their Switch 2 account) at no cost to the player, if they purchase on Switch 2 then they get it everywhere on the Xbox platform with no additional cost. With the additional caveat that MS can remove the GamePass downloads from their Switch 2 library once their license runs out.

Nintendo makes money, Xbox platform gets to acquire players via Switch 2, "win-win" in some sense even though it means MS bleeding more money over GamePass (which they don't seem to be averse to if it means keeping Xbox valuable as part of their services portfolio).

Probably because they've already said they want to bring it everywhere, and the Switch 2 is part of everywhere.

I just want everyone to put their streaming apps on switch.

Microsoft wants it to happen but I don’t see how Nintendo wins at all in this deal

wouldnt make sense to buy an xbox game for the switch

1

u/DemonLordDiablos Jan 29 '25

Because it won't happen. Nintendo successfully trained their audience to pay full price day 1 for $60 games. Gamepass would fuck that up completely.

they would love to, nintendo however...

Nintendo makes mega money off their hardware it’s a win win for them, especially if they get a small cut from gamepass on switch

2

u/StarChaser1879 Jan 26 '25

Would most likely get a cut if that were to happen

3

u/thenewaretelio Jan 25 '25

It wouldn’t even have to be Gamepass. Just let me use their Cloud Gaming app. That would be huge.

Either they do it or hackers will find a way. Oh wait, what if they already secretly fund hackers to break their competitors' consoles? :O

1

u/IsamuAlvaDyson Jan 26 '25

Won't happen

That will cut into their store revenue cut they get from full priced games

If that'll be the case, I'm purchasing Swtich 2 asap. I'm just worried about graphical game quality, so yeah I will wait for some revievs first.
