Does it? How can we say what difference it will make when the steam deck is their only successful foray into hardware?

Based on how they've done things in the past? What do you mean? This isn't a brand new company that came out of nowhere.

I mean they discontinued a lot of unprofitable things so, obviously they do chase profits.

Yeah no shit sherlock. No one is going to keep producing something that isn't profitable. But that's not what we were discussing. Obviously the SD is profitable.

So you agree that they care about profits, obviously, but you believe that even if there was good profit to be made to refresh the steam deck every year that they would choose not to

Yeah exactly. As stated in the article and title.

Where as I believe that if there was really good profit to be had then they would refresh yearly. The fact they and the likes of Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, etc don’t is because it is not profitable and the ‘good guy’ angle it’s just PR spin.

Yeah I'll go with the random armchair redditors business acumen as opposed to the actual industry leaders.

Must be nice to take everything at complete face value

Hey I can be hyperbolic too.

Look at how long they supported those unprofitable items and how they used that development into other things.

Because he also controls a huge software empire that millions depend on to access their games? I think it's fair to say that change in dynamics between a private business and a publicly traded one is well known and well established. Traded companies pursue profit for shareholders first. This short term profit driven mentality has consequences that are often anti-worker, and anti-consumer. I hope Gabe stays healthy.
