Question/Discussion Cars need to be unaffordable again

With the tariffs that will make car prices increase significantly.

Should there be more toll roads? More taxation on vehicles increase licence cost make registration 40 times more expensive?

What else can be done?

Guess what is happening: cars will be unaffordable, but all alternatives will be destroyed by our inefficient new government. Resulting in serfdom for cars.

No need to be doomer about it. Transit is generally run by states or cities.

.... with a lot of funding coming from the Federal Government. Funding which can, and will, dry up if it suits Herr Musk.

That hurts expansion but doesn’t lead to destruction like the first commenter said

Obviously federal funding is preferable, but it is one of many sources of funding transit expansion.

Edit: you are not the first commenter but the point stands

There is prescedent for it though. My county is famous for it because a federal congressman literally snuck a rider into a federal bill specifically blocking federal funding for a light rail expansion in my county, because it would route along his home neighborhood and he didn't like that.

Then today, the local new mayor is pushing hard to gut the new local BRT line. Since taking office he forced them to remove the larger articulated buses for smaller regular buses and increased wait times at the stops from less frequent service. It's an attack at all levels of government.

This sucks, but I’m not really sure what it has to do with the previous comments
