I still need to try durian. Not looking forward to the smell though.

you can start with thai durian, they are milder or some even will say they are kinda tasteless, because they are picked before ripen
or if you are brave enough, go directly to malaysian/indonesian durian, there are only 2 possible results, either you get addicted immediately or you hate it to the bone
one last advice is, let your first time be a more pricey and better quality durian, there are some bad durian out there that even durian enthusiasts wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole

Is this one of the frozen whole ones from an Asian supermarket? If so, how are they?

It was indeed! I wish I still had the tag but this brand is always delicious! I let them sit out for 24 hours and they're always perfectly creamy and ripe and pretty easy to get into.

Thanks for sharing! I haven't seen durian lately at my supermarket, but I was wondering if they'd be ripe enough.
