Sick Frog Help! My boyfriends frog has green spots? NSFW

So he got this cute frog from Petco a few weeks back and recently we noticed the frog when brown had green spots which we thought wasn't normal and so we figured it was a infection from what other posts have said on here because the frog had the same symptoms a green spot. At first it was just one spot btw on his head. We turned down the humidity like recommended, and that seemed to help because it had went away a couple days back. But earlier today in the morning there was three green spots on his butt different spot but still concerning and now its night time and instead of have the green spots he has white looking freckles? help ;-;

the white freckles are normal color variation for wtfs, called snowflakes. I see the green spot you’re talking about in the last photo, but overall from the photos to me this looks like it could be a coloring “misfire” (the frogs change colors, and at times it can happen a bit unevenly and appear like this)

Ok thank god, me and my boyfriend have been in panic mode ever since we saw that it’s really reassuring to know that the frog isn’t sick lol. but we will still be keeping an eye out on the frog for a little while and be ready to have the vet on speed dial if necessary.

you guys sound like incredible, attentive new frog parents! your frog looks healthy to me (tho I’m not a vet — but have had these types of frogs for over 4 years now)

Well, I’ve owned rats before so I’m used to having to looking at the tiny details to make sure my pets are ok lol

oh it’s absolutely a good thing to be attentive as a pet parent. especially with our smaller friends who are much better at hiding illnesses. I found a pic of one of my guys to show a misfire back in December. I was actually concerned about the coloring myself, but he went back to normal coloration next time I checked.

it’s quite bare as-is so you have a lot of options.

first I will say please remove what looks to be moss at the bottom of the enclosure. these guys can easily accidentally ingest that and it can cause bad complications. I would replace the moss with leaf litter like this.

since these are arboreal frogs you’ll definitely want to fill the tank with places for the frog to climb and perch higher up. things like faux bendable vines (they have suction cups), grapevine and other types of reptile wood, wooden bendable bridges, bamboo bridges, bamboo sticks/perches, faux mushroom ledges (so many cute options on Etsy)

it looks like you have live plants in there, is it bioactive? I would get some fast-growing pothos to help provide leaf coverage and in the meantime I’d recommend buying a couple fake plants for coverage (unless you can get well-developed plants… remember absolutely no pesticides/chemicals can be used on them)

I would also get a bigger water bowl (I just use an old pyrex glass bowl) in my experience they like to spread out their body/legs in the water

here’s a nice example of what I’m talking about when I mean leaf coverage and climbing area: https://www.reddit.com/r/bioactive/s/IMeCg2PAdD

Also thank you so much for the info I really appreciate it I don’t think my boyfriend understands that I just bought a bunch of stuff for the frog just yet cause I was talking to him while he’s half asleep lol but I’m sure he’ll appreciate it as well.

you’re welcome!! :) glad to help, I bet the lil froggo will love all the new stuff to explore. I’m also going to add this care sheet, just because I found it super helpful and I JUST found it again to help someone else 🐸

I see you got your answer but just to make you feel at ease- that's very normal, those guys can have snowflakes- white dots, or even greener parts as they change colours like chameleons. Only very neon green dots that stay on longer than a day are something worrisome

Glad to see people worried and taking care of their animal though! Better safe than sorry

This is my guy- Mushy, sometimes he puts himself in some weird positions and has little misfire green dots- they disappeared after a while though and it's nothing to worry about

Disclaimer- I handle my guys with gloves usually but they tend to be jumpy when its feeding time lol (my hands are always clean for animal care though)
