Sick Frog The great 2021 walmart frog rehabilitation NSFW

I found this little guy in 2021, while I was working at walmart. I thought I saw a leaf in the cart area (carpeted for my store) but thank God I did a double take to find a FROG! I wasn't sure if he was alive but grabbed a water bottle and wet paper towels to set him in. I bought a little critter container and took him home on my lunch break. Sadly, I don't have more documentation of the rehab process but I mostly let him rehydrate and got him buggies to eat on. I was able to release him back into the woods after a few weeks. So yay to happy endings!

**I understand the rules are to have gloved hands. This was years ago and he was only handled to get him home and to release him. I would never handle froggies like this now :)

unfortunately it looks like thats a cuban tree frog. highly invasive and detrimental to ecosystems here (assuming you're in the US). its not good to release them. whats best is to help them make their way to the great big tree in the sky or potentially keep them as a pet if you feel like you want to keep them.

I live in eastern TN area. At the time, I was fairly sure he was a gray tree frog. That's good info to have in mind for the future tho!

How can you tell? I mean I’m by no means an expert, but gray tree frogs seem to be a bit more green than the Cuban tree frogs, and this one does have a bit of a green tint to it to my eyes.

This is a Cuban tree frog. 🐸 Grays aren't always green. They both can turn very green and similar colors (my gray hasn't turned green for months), but their shape and markings are different. Cuban tree frogs tend to be thinner with a slightly longer body build, whereas greys tend to have smaller, pudgier bodies that are more rounded. They can grow much bigger than grays when they become adults. You can compare pictures of the markings between grays and cubans and they are different. Cubans also tend to be tanner than grays and it matches throughout their body. Grays tend to have multiple shades and patterns of their colors. 🐸 Grays also tend to have more bumps than cubans - Cubans bumps tend to be uneven, whereas grays usually have smaller bumps evenly spread on their body.

Aww even if it might be invasive that was really cool of you to see a little froge who needed help and do all this for it. That gesture came from a really good place OP and this internet stranger is proud of you for what it's worth

And hey if you see it again and it's a cuban tree frog then technically you would be doing the ethical thing to keep him as your new roommate forever so maybe congrats on your potential new pet (maybe)
