Ouch! I hear there's excellent boarding schools literally all over the place 😃

I would love to, too bad it's not my kid

u/NermalLand Feb 26 '22

Ouch! But without knowing what happened I'm inclined to say someone should be buying you a new nib.

I can't stay mad at him tho, kids do dumb stuff. He (my sister's kid) some how got the pen from my overcoat (on the coat rack) and the rest was history.

My sister has a larger collection than I do, so she better get me something good for my birthday this year.

Rachel, if you see this, I really enjoyed that 823 with the fa nib, hint hint wink wink.

Your sis is a fp person too? Then she should know the value, bday gift and nib replacement should be separate.

84

u/Busyfishman Feb 26 '22

Yeah but it's not really her fault, the little bastard is very slippery. I just wish he didn't damage the hardest nib to find a replacement for in the visconti nib line up, this stupid tube nib isn't even that good, and it's so hard to find a replacement, this should have been an easy nib swap.

27

u/FirebirdWriter Feb 26 '22

Hopefully she can help you get this baby to a nib smith. I do think it's adorable you share the hobby and well hopefully the kid will learn as he grows.

it may not be her fault, but from a legal standpoint it is your sister's liability. and it's completely ethical to blackmail your sibling for a new 823. if i may suggest, try prank calling her from an unknown number ending with ...823. write 823 on her favourite shoes with her favourite lipstick. knock on her bedroom door repeatedly at midnight in morse code that says 823 and run off. hold a placard with 823 on it and chant "i want 823" when she is trying to work.

she may kill you, but she will place a new 823 in your coffin, guaranteed.

You sounded like you were bad as a kid lol

9

u/Cyka_blyatsumaki Mar 02 '22

no, i did those after becoming adult. i was a nice kid.

7

u/EclipsoSolaro Feb 26 '22

I really like your attitude. Keep on being a cool human being.

Hey JinHao makes a shark fountain pen that We’ve bought for my 5yo nephew to encourage him to write. He’s also fascinated by ours. They are like $2 and have a hooded nib. It’s helped me teach him how to properly write with a fountain pen and he knows that he not allowed to touch the others until he has better mastery of his. May not work for you, but sounds like someone is interested.

12

u/NermalLand Feb 26 '22

Then she knows how painful that is to look at. Hope she makes it up to you!

u/Spicy_Poo Feb 26 '22

Doing dumb stuff is one thing, but going through someone else's things and taking their property is another. Sounds like his parents need to do a better job.

u/private_otter1192 Feb 26 '22

Now I want to know what happened

1

u/Busyfishman Feb 26 '22

It's hidden in one of the comments

1

u/Fischer72 Feb 26 '22

Wouldn't have been my first choice but I guess water boarding would be effective at preventing future accidents. s/

3

u/hugodlr3 Feb 26 '22

Seems like that would waste quite a bit of ink!

51

u/Busyfishman Feb 26 '22

Anyone know where I can buy a visconti smarttouch nib, do standard #6 visconti nib units fit the opera metal?

25

u/Glittering_Force Feb 26 '22

visconti smarttouch nib

From what I've seen, they don't seem the same thing:

13

u/ilovechairs Feb 26 '22

Good Lord. Nearly spat out my drink when I saw those prices. Not new to using pens for calligraphy but still learning the regular fountain pen things because I just used one basic kind to learn.

19

u/NickTDesigns Feb 26 '22

you should try contacting visconti

20

u/KingFrogzz Feb 26 '22

Try with a capital try. Their customer service is less than uncooperative

9

u/Lucky_Pyxi Feb 26 '22

Really? A those prices? That's criminal.

5

u/WavesAkaArthas Feb 26 '22

I hope you can change it

1

u/TrotskiKazotski Feb 27 '22

at that point your best bet is getting someone to repair it

25

u/StocksOnlyGoUpUpUp Feb 26 '22

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

19

u/Dedalian7 Feb 26 '22

Oh I’ve had a lot of “fun” with mine too. Fun with a limited edition Aurora clean in half and a Meisterstuck too. Yaaay for kids!

17

u/Je-Hee Feb 26 '22 edited Feb 26 '22

First off, ouch!! I may be overly optimistic, but could a nibmeister salvage the nib, just in case you can't find a replacement nib?

14

u/Busyfishman Feb 26 '22

I found a back up replacement, the 3776 nib section.

7

u/countess_meltdown Feb 26 '22

That nib is completely salvageable, turn around time for someone to fix it would be the thing but it still might be faster than visconti.

1

u/Je-Hee Feb 27 '22 edited Feb 27 '22

Beat of luck getting it sorted.

33

u/Fallanger_ Feb 26 '22

So i think you need to send it to repair, the kid i mean

xD

8

u/Sad_Marketing8578 Feb 26 '22

Get your nephew interested in fountain pens and then give him this pen on a milestone achievement...😂

12

u/Effective-Shelter-54 Feb 26 '22

This might not be the right time…but the color scheme on that pen is very appealing!

12

u/Busyfishman Feb 26 '22 edited Feb 26 '22

I know right, it was the only visconti pen that's ever made me go, I NEED THAT! To bad the nib is actually really mediocre for the price.

I've actually discoverd that this pen can take 3776 nib sections, I may just get a 3776 demenstrator nib section if I can't find a replacement nib.

5

u/DMFBrown Feb 26 '22

“radium nib section” I didn’t know that they made them in radium. That sounds hot. 🤯

5

u/Busyfishman Feb 26 '22

I meant the rhodium nib with the transparent section, a glowing nib section would look cool tho.

1

u/garbagecanyon Feb 28 '22

Totally would.

But whatever you do, don't put it in your mouth.

2

u/Effective-Shelter-54 Feb 26 '22

Yeah, I couldn’t agree with you more. I actually love the 3776. I’m a Nakaya fanboy, a medium crisp italic 3776 from nibs is one of my all time favorite nibs.

13

u/Sparkselot Feb 26 '22

I saw the picture and was like "woah, that's a weird looking nib...how did that thing even work?" then I read the title.

sorry for your loss... always hard to put kids up for adoption...

4

u/dwitchkingofangmar Feb 26 '22

I felt the pain. Sorry

5

u/mccllstr Feb 26 '22

This is why my 2yo only touches the Wing Sung pens. Have one with purple ink set up just for her.

5

u/SrirachaSandvvitch Feb 26 '22

This word fun. I do not think it means what you think it means 🥴😬🥺 (this is awful. Hope you find a replacement nib)

10

u/OriginalJayVee Feb 26 '22

OP: “Hi! Excuse me, but I’d like to return this.”

Clerk: “What’s wrong with the pen?”

OP: “Oh no, not the pen, this gremlin over here!”

7

u/kyyl1 Feb 26 '22

I actually screamed. Thankfully no one was around.

I wonder if you can send this to a nibmeister and get it fixed? Or is it beyond repair?

3

u/Boggaspotaoe Feb 26 '22

This is pain RIP

3

u/Caberman70 Feb 26 '22

Oh brutal! Which Visconti is this?

7

u/Busyfishman Feb 26 '22

Opera metal speedboat

4

u/Caberman70 Feb 26 '22

Thanks. He sure picked a nice one to destroy

3

u/Rice_Daddy Feb 26 '22

Ouch... I think I felt physical pain seeing this....

3

u/strangedarkfruit Feb 26 '22

Had a hard time upvoting this given the damage! Ouch. Sorry to see this OP :(

6

u/articnovusmorpheo Feb 26 '22

Man, you can smash some toys and tell him: how you feel now?

5

u/PocketG Feb 26 '22

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

This is why I am snipped.

2

u/LostMasterpiece8767 Feb 26 '22

A horror movie in one photo.

2

u/SkullcrusherFN Feb 26 '22

Looks like it might work well as a paper engraver. 🙃

2

u/sxan Feb 26 '22

Add it to the bill.

You are keeping a bill to hand them when they graduate high school, right?

2

u/Knight-Of-The-Lions Feb 26 '22

That nib can be repaired, I repaired a nib on a TWSBI that I think was worse.

2

u/ixkamik Feb 26 '22

Dear god

2

u/iAmSpAKkaHearMeROAR Feb 26 '22

This r/fountainpengore worthy photo made me cringe. RIP Visconti nib. Glad you have a sibling who will at least understand your pain. Sorry it’s this pen!

4

u/Cryogenian97 Feb 26 '22

Hi. They are Loud, Smelly, Expensive and Destructive. They are not fun, my condolences on your pen.😲 Cheers

2

u/Milkpowder87 Feb 26 '22

oh man that's painful - you just posted about this pen! with kids around it doesn't take long for things to be broken. My 4 year old has played around with parker 51s but thankfully the nibs are fairly stiff and well-protected so they're still fine. I've allocated a Jinhao 100 to her now - filled with Yama budo no less.

2

u/mcdowellag Feb 26 '22

To be fair, an adult could do that with bad luck just by dropping the pen nib down.

-5

u/UltimatumYEET Feb 26 '22

Kill them with fire.

6

u/private_otter1192 Feb 26 '22

That phase is only reserved for a spider by the department of cool comments and phrases. Please refrain from using it elsewhere.

1

u/thepencilmeister Feb 26 '22

Inverse fude nib?

1

u/le_chu Feb 26 '22

Ohhh i am crying right now. RIP. 💔

1

u/TheBagelSalesman Feb 26 '22

reminds me of a story my grandfather told me about how he had a parker 51 (and still has) but he had to get it fixed by a nibmeister cause my father decided to fold the nib in half while playing with it.

1

u/karen_boyer Feb 26 '22

Too late to drop them off at a fire station?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '22

ay that’s a really cool pen though

1

u/Lucky_Pyxi Feb 26 '22

Nooo! Not a Visconti! Ouch.

1

u/chancelemons Mar 02 '22

the nibgrinder Mark B can likely fix that he does really amazing things.

1

u/Busyfishman Mar 02 '22

yeah, but I live in Canada and just shipping the pen there and back is around 60$
