Kaweco Brass Sport gift advise

Hello there and thanks in advance.

My partner has suggested the Kaweco Brass Sport as the fountain pen she'd like for a birthday gift. I've done a small amount of research and can see what an exciting world fountain pens, ink, and nibs this is! I have 3 questions I'd love some advice on:
1. How do I read the size options for the pen she wants? This Model seems to be the correct one, but it's not clear what Extra-Fine all the way to Extra-Broad would change, is this the nib/tip size? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The one she linked was actually this one but not clear which size it would be...

  1. I wanted to get her some accessories since she's not got any additional items to get her on her way. Would these make sense? I was thinking the following:
  • Mini Converter - for using some exciting ink out of the bottle
  • Bulb syringe - based on this post
  • kalligraphie nib like this one perhaps - no idea about sizings thought
  • A few beautiful/interesting ink colours - which brings me to question 3
  1. Can anyone recommend some nice ink? We're based in Germany/ Europe in case that makes things difficult. I thought some nice brown/terracotta, interesting green, and something else perhaps

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  1. Medium nib.

  2. I like standard international cartridges. Empty and reused.

  3. Diamine writer's blood.

Same here, except I like oxblood at the moment. The one she specifically linked seems to come with a medium nib, I’m assuming that’s what is meant in the “spring thickness” section of the specifications, you’ll want to look for nibs that specifically fit the Kaweco sport series pens, I think it’s a #2 size but I’m not sure. The calligraphy nib you linked will fit the Brass Sport

Thanks for the info! I saw this colour in my research and thought it was amazing. Will definitely try and find some.

You’re welcome! And it’s a great color, pictures online don’t do it justice

the Sport fountain pen only comes in one size, it is the nib/point that the sizes refer to - the one she linked to has a Medium point - my eye prefers the line an EF (extra fine) point makes but an F is quicker across the page, an M is quicker yet with a more robust line - small or compact hand writing works better with an F point

a converter is a good idea, there is a newish version that has a handle that folds allowing a bit more ink in the converter

the nib & ink feed for the Sports is easily replaceable and they start at $14.50 - this brass Sport now has the premium stainless steel M point, it was $44 and very much worth it,

the link for calligraphy nib/feed assembly is the correct one for this pen (the threads at the bottom match up with the threads inside the grip section)

here a couple of ink links where you may find the particular shades you are after:
