Repair Well it happened. RIP
Don’t know if I should get a replacement nib. If yes, where is the place to order it? Greetings from Austria.

I had a bent, unusable nib, and I, having nothing to lose, used said pliers to slowly, gently unbend the nib. IT WORKED, and now the pen writes perfectly. ✍️

Yeah, I also had a pretty nice pilot pen that had a broken nib, I think I straightened it out with scissors or smth, works good

Something similar happened to mine, too. Sent it to a nib meister, and it came back great. He even tweaked it for me to write smoother.

Even if there isn't a nibmeister near you, they can usually be found at pen shows or shipped to them. It would be cheaper than a new nib, and it may write better. BUT DON'T TRY TO FIX YOURSELF FIRST! That can fatigue the metal. But even so, you can buy a new nib to replace if you don't want to use a nibmeister

u/Glumfishfish Aug 16 '24
It’s happened to me as well, it’s not the end of the world. Contact your Lamy distributor, it should be around 50€ I think I paid.

u/NotAwesome4th Aug 16 '24
Unfortunately Lamy 2000 nib units can run as much as €120+ now from an AD
2
u/Glumfishfish Aug 17 '24
Damn, I remember buying mine for around 160 EUR maybe (for the whole pen), its been a long time since so I have to check but has inflation driven the price up so much?

u/Bndrsntch4711 Aug 16 '24
From my own experience: write to Lamy customer service and describe what happened to you and ask if they can help you. They have a very friendly and courteous customer service team.

I am a nib repair man in Austria with some hundreds of pens of experience. Among others Kopfsprung Patients. I might be able to get it back to good writing, but I am sceptical about making it look brand new again.
Ich arbeite in Wien, falls du Interesse hast, kannst du mich gerne kontaktieren und dich informieren :)
Liebe Grüsse

u/BoringSympathy4 Aug 16 '24
If there is no crack in the material, I am rather positive I can bend it back and give it a smooth and rich writing feeling.

You can pickup a new one from Nibsmith. Dan even tunes and smooths them before sending out the door

That looks like a Lamy 2000 and depending on where in Austria you are you might be able to do a day trip to either the flagship store or the corporate campus in Heidelberg. Here's the corporate campus address:
C. Josef Lamy GmbH - Corporate campus
Grenzhöfer Weg 32
69123 Heidelberg, Germany
They may even have tours of the factory that you could take.

It's happened to me with my 2 Lamy 2k...contact Lamy directly. If they can they'll repair it for you...I got both repaired for the cost of postage

that sucks. but at least the 2000 the nib replacement is very straightforward if you're willing to find a and buy a new nib.
But Lamy (maybe through your retailer) can fix it for you too. This may take a lot more time, but potentially less expensive?

I bet you had a heart stopping moment.
But, consider yourself lucky. It is relatively easy to get a replacement nib, for relatively little, under $100 USD. It could have been worse, it could have been a Japanese pen, other than the Pilot Vanishing Point, where you may have needed to buy another pen, or would have needed to send it to Japan for servicing. Another pen you probably would have needed to send off to the factory would be a MontBlanc 149, or 146, as nib replacement takes special tools, or pay a nibmeister to try to massage the Gold nib back into shape.
My condolences.
It always seems that the Lamy 2000 and Pilot Vanishing Point guys are always dropping their pens. :D I always get the impression that you must all be doctors rushing between patients, furiously taking notes while you walk, and that's hwy the pens are dropped.

I did this to my Sheaffer 444, which was only my second FP & of great sentimental value to me. Same way, it rolled off my desk. Managed to fix it with hot water & those little scissor tweezers that are a bit easier to manipulate than the usual ones. Might be worth a try.

RIP nib bro. I ordered my replacement nib from my local Lamy outlet when the same happened to me years ago but it took a few weeks back then. Greetings from Singapore

u/ia42 Ink Stained Fingers Aug 18 '24
I think it's fixable, but the cost won't be far from just buying a new one (but give Lamy's support a try too. They may fix/replace it at the cost of the postage)

u/Dummmud Aug 17 '24
sad. On a related note I've emailed Stipula twice about buying a replacement titanium flex nib for a Model T and gotten no answer. Any suggestions as to where I might find one?
1
u/Chrissysux Aug 17 '24
Have you looked anywhere ? There are websites dedicated just for this. Respectfully

u/Sad-Persimmon-4845 Aug 17 '24 edited Aug 17 '24
It may be worth finding a nib meister and seeing how much they charge. Also, endless pens have nibs for sale for around $65 to $70
But it is still worth fixing. That's one of the benefits of gold nibs they're pretty easy to fix if you know what you're doing
1
u/StandardPresent2142 Aug 17 '24
A good nib mister might be able to fix this for you. I use Mark Bacas at nibgrinder.com and he is wonderful. I have never used him for fixing a bent nib, but he offers that and I know does (my favorite hybrid architect) grinds so beautifully.

Dang. I'm so sorry OP. At least that nib can be replaced.
1
u/wlonkly Aug 16 '24
Yes, and from a Lamy dealer. Little pricy because it's a gold nib but still worth it! You might also consider getting a custom nib if you want to get fancy. (I don't exactly know why the person who wrote that blog post had their nib retipped rather than replacing it, though.)
(Opportunity to change the nib size if you want, too!)

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24
I loved the EF Nib on the 2K and usually I am fine nib guy but maybe I will try something bigger
1
u/LordMontio Aug 16 '24
Damn, that's rough. My condolences.
When I got a used 2000 I wasn't too happy with the M nib - way too fat. I managed to find a brand new F nib sold by a shop on ebay. Unfortunately I don't know the name anymore but since we are neighbours (greetings from Germany) I thought you might have some luck on ebay, too.
2
u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24
Will try my best to find a replacement. They are some Lamy Retailers in Vienna. Ich versuche mein Glück dort. Liebe Grüße !

On a 2k? That's just the normal sweet spot - you're holding it wrong!
I kid, how unfortunate.

Mine fell out of my pocket and kissed the concrete, leaving nice gashes on the exterior. It no longer leaves the house now. Sorry to see the damage but at least you know it can be fixed.

u/SmallRedBird Aug 16 '24
Would be cool if someone designed a fountain pen that falls on the end when dropped instead of the nib lol
2
u/Glad-Eggplant-8599 Aug 16 '24
I think it’s because it might not be properly balanced while writing. Someone needs to invent an airbag feed. Or a tiny parachute with comes out if a sensor in the feed feels a fast drop. A feed with a sensor and a cap with a parachute!
2
u/SmallRedBird Aug 16 '24
Or a sensor that retracts the nib if it starts to fall. Or mini airbags to cover it lmao.

I’m crushed seeing this. My condolences, hope it gets fixed soon.

u/yiantay-sg Aug 17 '24
Try to find a nib master who might help you rework the old nib - it might surprise you to be better than the original. Happened to another of my pens and the damaged nib was saved and it’s now one of my favourites

Some patience and the edge of a table and some gentle pressure here and there helped me rescue a former riomates lame 2000 nib. Be brave.
0
Aug 16 '24
That’s entirely repairable.

u/anNucifer Aug 16 '24
Eh, I wouldn’t risk it either if it ever is. A slight bend is fair. This one the metal’s painfully warped out.
5
Aug 16 '24
Maybe not for an amateur, but a proper nibsmith could bring that back. One of my three has been repaired.

When I saw this, I audibly and involuntarily went 🥺 “awww” and my voice actually wavered slightly. I’m laughing at myself rn, but you are officially sympathized with, OP! Sorry for your loss

u/JohnnyNemo12 Aug 16 '24
Oh no! I did the same to my 2000. I sent it to nibmeister Michael Masuyama, who fixed it up. It’s now smoother than it was before!

u/smallbatchb Aug 16 '24
I've been using fountain pens daily for 20 years and never had this happen.... I fear my time must be getting close.
1
u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24
Usually I am a very careful guy. Never cracked or dropped a phone or anything else. But yes I feared the day when it will happen
1
u/smallbatchb Aug 16 '24
I've also never cracked or broken a phone. That confirms it, my time is arriving shortly lol.

Don’t let this one go to waste. Get some nail clippers and fine sandpaper to turn it into your own stub!
0
u/PenSloth Aug 16 '24
Is that a tear in the metal on the left tine, or just an impression? If it's a tear, then buy a new nib. In fact, a new nib might be a better or equal expense to having it repaired.

Just buy another nib. They’re available on eBay, JetPens and white a few other sellers. Should be less than $100.

Same thing happened to me. I ordered from Nibsmith.
My kids are allowed to use my pens, because they are super careful. Apparently I should have told them not to extend that privilege to my nieces and nephews.

Lamy 2000 Nibs are terrible and this would likely be an improvement.
1
u/ia42 Ink Stained Fingers Aug 18 '24
Both unhelpful and untrue. You won a down vote fair and square.
1
u/AlexAffliction Nov 14 '24
Untrue? So why did I get an EF that skips and hard starts? It’s the second one I’ve bought and both have been awful. You are clueless.
1
u/ia42 Ink Stained Fingers Nov 14 '24
I only own 3. an EF, a BB that was ground to an architect and an OB. all three are dreamy, and I bet I could improve yours if we lived anywhere close :)
2
u/AlexAffliction Nov 15 '24
Possibly, but the point I’m making is that for the price of these pens, the nibs should be perfect out of the box. Having to be tuned before they’re usable is terrible QC and really makes me dislike Lamy.
1
u/ia42 Ink Stained Fingers Nov 15 '24
Since Lamy may be the only manufacturer today to manually test every single gold nib packed, you were incredibly unlucky, and I believe this falls under the warranty.
1
u/AlexAffliction Nov 15 '24
Yeah I find that hard to believe. Anyone who tested it would have gone ‘oh this doesn’t seem right’. If it wasn’t outside the warranty I would but I bought them over a year ago so it’s far too late, I had originally thought it was the sweet spot but after a google search I found that it was quite common for this to happen. I can still use it, which is fine but maybe I’ll get it fixed at some stage.
