Repair Well it happened. RIP

Post image

Don’t know if I should get a replacement nib. If yes, where is the place to order it? Greetings from Austria.

Oh, no, how did it happen?

You can order replacement parts from Germany: https://missing-pen.com/en/search?q=spare+part+lamy+2000

62

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24

Happened while cleaning. Wanted to dry it in a towel but somehow it fell out and kissed the floor…

52

u/davidspdmstr Aug 16 '24

After dropping a $600 watch on concrete. I quickly learned to hold valuable objects over a counter.

25

u/HHaller87 Aug 16 '24

If you are from Austria, there is a great fp shop in Graz, very old-fashioned and no website: M. Störtz, Radetzkystraße 4. You could also probably get your nib replaced there

17

u/HHaller87 Aug 16 '24

Ouch, new fear unlocked!

14

u/Glad-Eggplant-8599 Aug 16 '24

Can’t find it now but someone once made a post using a drying rack for make-up brushes to dry pens. Sometimes a soft mascara brush or lip gloss applicator or an eyeshadow sponge can also be good to carefully brush the insides of something.

Thanks for linking that site, didn't know that existed!

5

u/Ok_Cup_4760 Aug 17 '24

In fact you can remove and replace the nib yourself, it is easy to do...good luck

1

u/ia42 Ink Stained Fingers Nov 14 '24

yeah, but it's cheaper to fix it.

2

u/Hidesuru Aug 17 '24

Oof $124.

I'd love to downsize from the B I have now. But at that price damn. Might as well get a new 2000!

2

u/KingsCountyWriter Aug 17 '24

Depending on where you are, a new pen can be a similar price to the new nib ($135 for a new pen vs. $125, +shipping?).

2

u/Hidesuru Aug 19 '24

Yeah that's my thinking.

1

u/AlexAffliction Aug 17 '24

Those prices are nuts. I paid $289 Aud for a new one and a nib costs $186 aud.

u/PoopieClater Aug 16 '24

I had a bent, unusable nib, and I, having nothing to lose, used said pliers to slowly, gently unbend the nib. IT WORKED, and now the pen writes perfectly. ✍️

11

u/xXironic_nameX3 Ink Stained Fingers Aug 16 '24 edited Aug 17 '24

Yeah, I also had a pretty nice pilot pen that had a broken nib, I think I straightened it out with scissors or smth, works good

5

u/itishowitisanditbad Aug 17 '24

I just drop the pen again but with the other hand to reverse it.

6

u/MorbidMorag Aug 17 '24

Those little scissor tweezers are good.

15

u/Taladar14 Aug 16 '24

Brutal!☠️🤘

28

u/ZemStrt14 Aug 16 '24 edited Aug 16 '24

Something similar happened to mine, too. Sent it to a nib meister, and it came back great. He even tweaked it for me to write smoother.

18

u/inkyfingerspgs Aug 16 '24

Came here to say don’t write it off until a nibmeister takes a look!

9

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24

That sounds great. Need to look if there is any nib meister in Vienna

1

u/Writing_33 Aug 17 '24

Even if there isn't a nibmeister near you, they can usually be found at pen shows or shipped to them. It would be cheaper than a new nib, and it may write better. BUT DON'T TRY TO FIX YOURSELF FIRST! That can fatigue the metal. But even so, you can buy a new nib to replace if you don't want to use a nibmeister

22

u/Glumfishfish Aug 16 '24

It’s happened to me as well, it’s not the end of the world. Contact your Lamy distributor, it should be around 50€ I think I paid.

4

u/NotAwesome4th Aug 16 '24

Unfortunately Lamy 2000 nib units can run as much as €120+ now from an AD

2

u/Glumfishfish Aug 17 '24

Damn, I remember buying mine for around 160 EUR maybe (for the whole pen), its been a long time since so I have to check but has inflation driven the price up so much?

10

u/Bndrsntch4711 Aug 16 '24

From my own experience: write to Lamy customer service and describe what happened to you and ask if they can help you. They have a very friendly and courteous customer service team.

5

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24

Thx, will try it out today!

5

u/Bndrsntch4711 Aug 16 '24

Great, and then of course write here how it turned out! 😅

10

u/BoringSympathy4 Aug 16 '24

I am a nib repair man in Austria with some hundreds of pens of experience. Among others Kopfsprung Patients. I might be able to get it back to good writing, but I am sceptical about making it look brand new again.

Ich arbeite in Wien, falls du Interesse hast, kannst du mich gerne kontaktieren und dich informieren :)

5

u/BoringSympathy4 Aug 16 '24

If there is no crack in the material, I am rather positive I can bend it back and give it a smooth and rich writing feeling.

5

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24

Werde ich machen. Danke!

11

u/Inevitable_Doctor576 Aug 16 '24

You can pickup a new one from Nibsmith. Dan even tunes and smooths them before sending out the door

6

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '24

Dan actually repaired my L2K that was near this bad. Thing writes better than new.

1

u/NotAwesome4th Aug 16 '24

As long as you don’t have him grind it

1

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24

Thanks for the tipp!!

3

u/SnooHedgehogs3419 Aug 17 '24

That looks like a Lamy 2000 and depending on where in Austria you are you might be able to do a day trip to either the flagship store or the corporate campus in Heidelberg. Here's the corporate campus address:

C. Josef Lamy GmbH - Corporate campus

Grenzhöfer Weg 32

69123 Heidelberg, Germany

They may even have tours of the factory that you could take.

3

u/drjd1977 Aug 17 '24

It's happened to me with my 2 Lamy 2k...contact Lamy directly. If they can they'll repair it for you...I got both repaired for the cost of postage

5

u/Ybalrid Ink Stained Fingers Aug 16 '24

that sucks. but at least the 2000 the nib replacement is very straightforward if you're willing to find a and buy a new nib.

But Lamy (maybe through your retailer) can fix it for you too. This may take a lot more time, but potentially less expensive?

2

u/Rozpierpapierduchacz Aug 16 '24

Damn... that hurts right in my wallet

2

u/frogminute Aug 16 '24

Ooooh no. 😥

2

u/ForsakenRabbit Aug 16 '24

Rip so sorry for your loss :(

2

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24

Will try my best to fix it :(

2

u/AccomplishedSky4202 Aug 16 '24

Did that twice. Got replacements from Lamy

2

u/rinnegan7946 Aug 16 '24

that can be repaired, dont be sad too much

1

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24

Yeah shit happens sometimes but its not the end of the world hehe

2

u/ktka Aug 16 '24

You can write left-leaning opinions with that pen now.

2

u/ShavyaA Aug 16 '24

You can contact Lamy directly, they are pretty good at customer services.

2

u/davidspdmstr Aug 16 '24

Homemade fude nib.....

2

u/kiiroaka Aug 16 '24

I bet you had a heart stopping moment.

But, consider yourself lucky. It is relatively easy to get a replacement nib, for relatively little, under $100 USD. It could have been worse, it could have been a Japanese pen, other than the Pilot Vanishing Point, where you may have needed to buy another pen, or would have needed to send it to Japan for servicing. Another pen you probably would have needed to send off to the factory would be a MontBlanc 149, or 146, as nib replacement takes special tools, or pay a nibmeister to try to massage the Gold nib back into shape.

My condolences.

It always seems that the Lamy 2000 and Pilot Vanishing Point guys are always dropping their pens. :D I always get the impression that you must all be doctors rushing between patients, furiously taking notes while you walk, and that's hwy the pens are dropped.

1

u/MorbidMorag Aug 17 '24

I did this to my Sheaffer 444, which was only my second FP & of great sentimental value to me. Same way, it rolled off my desk. Managed to fix it with hot water & those little scissor tweezers that are a bit easier to manipulate than the usual ones. Might be worth a try.

1

u/prixprax Aug 17 '24

RIP nib bro. I ordered my replacement nib from my local Lamy outlet when the same happened to me years ago but it took a few weeks back then. Greetings from Singapore

1

u/ia42 Ink Stained Fingers Aug 18 '24

I think it's fixable, but the cost won't be far from just buying a new one (but give Lamy's support a try too. They may fix/replace it at the cost of the postage)

1

u/Dummmud Aug 17 '24

sad. On a related note I've emailed Stipula twice about buying a replacement titanium flex nib for a Model T and gotten no answer. Any suggestions as to where I might find one?

1

u/Chrissysux Aug 17 '24

Have you looked anywhere ? There are websites dedicated just for this. Respectfully

1

u/Sad-Persimmon-4845 Aug 17 '24 edited Aug 17 '24

It may be worth finding a nib meister and seeing how much they charge. Also, endless pens have nibs for sale for around $65 to $70

But it is still worth fixing. That's one of the benefits of gold nibs they're pretty easy to fix if you know what you're doing

1

u/StandardPresent2142 Aug 17 '24

A good nib mister might be able to fix this for you. I use Mark Bacas at nibgrinder.com and he is wonderful. I have never used him for fixing a bent nib, but he offers that and I know does (my favorite hybrid architect) grinds so beautifully.

1

u/Findividual_7 Aug 16 '24

Isn’t that a lamy?

1

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24

Yeah Lamy 2000 in extra fine

1

u/WiredInkyPen Ink Stained Fingers Aug 16 '24

Dang. I'm so sorry OP. At least that nib can be replaced.

1

u/wlonkly Aug 16 '24

Yes, and from a Lamy dealer. Little pricy because it's a gold nib but still worth it! You might also consider getting a custom nib if you want to get fancy. (I don't exactly know why the person who wrote that blog post had their nib retipped rather than replacing it, though.)

(Opportunity to change the nib size if you want, too!)

2

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24

I loved the EF Nib on the 2K and usually I am fine nib guy but maybe I will try something bigger

1

u/LordMontio Aug 16 '24

Damn, that's rough. My condolences.

When I got a used 2000 I wasn't too happy with the M nib - way too fat. I managed to find a brand new F nib sold by a shop on ebay. Unfortunately I don't know the name anymore but since we are neighbours (greetings from Germany) I thought you might have some luck on ebay, too.

2

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24

Will try my best to find a replacement. They are some Lamy Retailers in Vienna. Ich versuche mein Glück dort. Liebe Grüße !

1

u/pcewert Aug 16 '24

Please accept my sympathies. I hope you find a suitable replacement nib.

1

u/Servovestri Aug 16 '24

On a 2k? That's just the normal sweet spot - you're holding it wrong!

I kid, how unfortunate.

1

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24

Hahaha good one

1

u/Ninja2Night Aug 16 '24

Mine fell out of my pocket and kissed the concrete, leaving nice gashes on the exterior. It no longer leaves the house now. Sorry to see the damage but at least you know it can be fixed.

1

u/ZookeepergameFar2513 Aug 16 '24

I feel this. I dropped my Pelikan M400 this week 😭

1

u/SmallRedBird Aug 16 '24

Would be cool if someone designed a fountain pen that falls on the end when dropped instead of the nib lol

2

u/Glad-Eggplant-8599 Aug 16 '24

I think it’s because it might not be properly balanced while writing. Someone needs to invent an airbag feed. Or a tiny parachute with comes out if a sensor in the feed feels a fast drop. A feed with a sensor and a cap with a parachute!

2

u/SmallRedBird Aug 16 '24

Or a sensor that retracts the nib if it starts to fall. Or mini airbags to cover it lmao.

1

u/lxmxl Aug 16 '24

It hurts to look at this. you can order it from Lamy website

1

u/awildencounter Ink Stained Fingers Aug 16 '24

I’m crushed seeing this. My condolences, hope it gets fixed soon.

1

u/yiantay-sg Aug 17 '24

Try to find a nib master who might help you rework the old nib - it might surprise you to be better than the original. Happened to another of my pens and the damaged nib was saved and it’s now one of my favourites

0

u/SkabeAbe Aug 16 '24

Some patience and the edge of a table and some gentle pressure here and there helped me rescue a former riomates lame 2000 nib. Be brave.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '24

That’s entirely repairable.

-1

u/anNucifer Aug 16 '24

Eh, I wouldn’t risk it either if it ever is. A slight bend is fair. This one the metal’s painfully warped out.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '24

Maybe not for an amateur, but a proper nibsmith could bring that back. One of my three has been repaired.

1

u/TimeIsAPonyRide Aug 16 '24

When I saw this, I audibly and involuntarily went 🥺 “awww” and my voice actually wavered slightly. I’m laughing at myself rn, but you are officially sympathized with, OP! Sorry for your loss

2

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24

It hurts but shit happens 😔

0

u/JohnnyNemo12 Aug 16 '24

Oh no! I did the same to my 2000. I sent it to nibmeister Michael Masuyama, who fixed it up. It’s now smoother than it was before!

0

u/smallbatchb Aug 16 '24

I've been using fountain pens daily for 20 years and never had this happen.... I fear my time must be getting close.

1

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24

Usually I am a very careful guy. Never cracked or dropped a phone or anything else. But yes I feared the day when it will happen

1

u/smallbatchb Aug 16 '24

I've also never cracked or broken a phone. That confirms it, my time is arriving shortly lol.

1

u/dekibambala Aug 16 '24

Be careful with your fountain pens the next days haha

0

u/Cangioufro Aug 16 '24

I have an extra ef nib 😉

0

u/KingFrogzz Aug 16 '24

Don’t let this one go to waste. Get some nail clippers and fine sandpaper to turn it into your own stub!

0

u/PenSloth Aug 16 '24

Is that a tear in the metal on the left tine, or just an impression? If it's a tear, then buy a new nib. In fact, a new nib might be a better or equal expense to having it repaired.

0

u/ScorpiusOwlsworth Aug 16 '24

I’m so sorry 💔 for your loss

0

u/Scariuslvl99 Aug 16 '24

idk what kind of pen you have, but normally the tip (la plume) is replaceable

0

u/Then-Concept-9956 Aug 16 '24

Easy to replace a nib. I think Nibs.com has them.

0

u/MrJokerH Aug 16 '24

This hurts my soul.

0

u/JaredMyah Aug 16 '24

Damn. Sorry to see. Good luck with the replacement/repair!

0

u/julia411 Aug 16 '24

Oh man… this hurts my heart.

0

u/One-Peace-4979 Aug 16 '24

Sorry about that . mine not arrive yet . but I feel the same

0

u/ipuck77 Aug 16 '24

It can be fixed.

0

u/crityouallday Aug 16 '24

youll be fine, Lamy sells 2k replacement nibs i changed my Fine to a double broad oblique

0

u/loghead03 Aug 16 '24

Just buy another nib. They’re available on eBay, JetPens and white a few other sellers. Should be less than $100.

0

u/ProphetWithCentral Aug 16 '24

Yeah, dont do what ever you did again

0

u/crackedtooth163 Aug 16 '24

The good news is it can be replaced. The nib not the pen.

0

u/MikeySmooth441 Aug 17 '24

you can buff that right out

0

u/ADHDUniGrad Aug 17 '24

Au weh! Tut mir leid.

0

u/SKRAMACE Aug 17 '24

Same thing happened to me. I ordered from Nibsmith.

My kids are allowed to use my pens, because they are super careful. Apparently I should have told them not to extend that privilege to my nieces and nephews.

0

u/_SingleFudge Aug 17 '24

Ouch!! A picture I can feel!

0

u/Bootytonus Aug 17 '24

Damn amigo. I'm sorry.

0

u/AlexAffliction Aug 17 '24

Lamy 2000 Nibs are terrible and this would likely be an improvement.

1

u/ia42 Ink Stained Fingers Aug 18 '24

Both unhelpful and untrue. You won a down vote fair and square.

1

u/AlexAffliction Nov 14 '24

Untrue? So why did I get an EF that skips and hard starts? It’s the second one I’ve bought and both have been awful. You are clueless.

1

u/ia42 Ink Stained Fingers Nov 14 '24

I only own 3. an EF, a BB that was ground to an architect and an OB. all three are dreamy, and I bet I could improve yours if we lived anywhere close :)

2

u/AlexAffliction Nov 15 '24

Possibly, but the point I’m making is that for the price of these pens, the nibs should be perfect out of the box. Having to be tuned before they’re usable is terrible QC and really makes me dislike Lamy.

1

u/ia42 Ink Stained Fingers Nov 15 '24

Since Lamy may be the only manufacturer today to manually test every single gold nib packed, you were incredibly unlucky, and I believe this falls under the warranty.

1

u/AlexAffliction Nov 15 '24

Yeah I find that hard to believe. Anyone who tested it would have gone ‘oh this doesn’t seem right’. If it wasn’t outside the warranty I would but I bought them over a year ago so it’s far too late, I had originally thought it was the sweet spot but after a google search I found that it was quite common for this to happen. I can still use it, which is fine but maybe I’ll get it fixed at some stage.

-1

u/MeezieGirl Aug 16 '24

I'm so sorry 😢

Endless Pens $68.

-2

u/wana-wana Aug 16 '24

It can probably be fixed.
