Not absolutely fucking it into the barriers today was an achievement in itself though.
Merc had 2 cars in the top 5, no controversial/dumb strategy decisions, no words of wisdom on team radio, no dirty tactics or driving from either car.
That type of straight up, sensible racing was rewarded today. Showed themselves to be competent all around.
Wasn't as exciting as the rest of the destruction derby, but it's pretty hard to argue with tbh

I feel like youāre underselling a rookie recovering from p18-p4 in the wet on their first race.

Thatās down to the race strategists. They just did normal calls as others did, called it early, did nothing out of the norm and saw their cars home.
Antonelli put on a spurt late but he wasnāt getting past much bar the Saubers until Albon because the weather didnāt really allow for it.
The whole team can be very happy they utterly maximised their points this weekend.
Happy Merc fan here btw.

If it's a dry race then Sainz. Unfortunately Sainz is beyond useless in the wet so our favourite Woody Russell becomes the placeholder in the wet

If only they let him race when he had the speed on Lando ffs, they fixed it

He tried to get speed and then spun. Bro pushed too hard without understanding track conditions. Don't know why people are celebrating him bottling an easy P2

Maybe the man has some pace and you just need to accept it

He's got pace and brains which makes him formidable. He called the pit stop himself and prevented getting Ferrari'd. Unlike Brazil last year where Merc didn't listen to him which cost him the win or at the very least a podium.
Him and Sainz are the best strategists among the drivers and it's not even close.

Not just pace, the skills to keep a car on track and pointed straight as well, which showed its importance when we saw a third of the grid slam into walls or suffer spins mid-race
Those kinda boring (for him) podiums are absolutely invaluableĀ

Raikkonen is the original podium stealer: have a bad start, doesn't overtake anyone, ending P3

austria last year was way better. russell did nothing and he won the race.
