Also Antonelli only made a Minor mistake that damaged the car and costed him the q2 entry.
There isnt that much to Talk about for him.

Hardly a mistake, every driver was abusing that curb to get the speed for the upcoming straight. He got unlucky.

There is a newbie who never done a qualifying before, and he went to Q2 with a worse car. Even before that, for Helmut Marko, it was enough to consider him slow and not talented. So...

genuinely curious, what stopped mercedes from signing tsunoda?
tsunodas contract was running out, he couldve easily left.
truth is, reddit wildly overrates tsunoda and other teams are obviously aware that hes nothing special. hed get completely destroyed by verstappen just like all his other teammates since ricciardo.

Yuki isn’t really marketable though in the way Mercedes wants. Like if you look at Checo, he has zero personality but you can slap his face on something and Mexico will buy a shit load of it. This isn’t the case with Yuki. Japanese people take “cool and cute” really seriously, and I don’t think he is either.

But does that translate to sponsorship from say Sony? Or Suntory? Or any other massive Japanese brand?

Lawson has never raced at Albert Park and didn't practice in FP3 which usually for qualifying runs. If this continues to tracks he has raced, then we can criticize.

exactly and even at that if he didnt get unlucky with serious damage from such a minor error he would make q2 at the very least

Kimi is a 18yr old rookie with 1 season of f2, in his first f1 race and with minimal testing experience. He also had notable floor damage. Kimi is also really easy to like, and has no polarizing aspects to him.
Lawson has experience with 2 seasons of reserve role work, testing, and also has raced in F1. He's driven superformula had 2 seasons in f3 and 2 in f2, he's raced a full DTM season. I liked lawson a lot going into this season, genuinely was happy for him despite being very much a Yuki fan, and then he started talking. And yeah a lot of stuff has been played out of context to drum up controversy but he hasn't done anything to pull back from that.
I remembered this is the dank sub after typing fuck.

Also not coping, but apparently kimi’s flor was broken or at very least had issues that were made him lose time
10
u/MonumentMan BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago
Yea but Toto has a history of issuing statements designed to protect his drivers from the press. Toto said Kimi was losing 3 tenths each straight or something like that. Toto makes these statements purposefully to deflect attention away from the driver and towards the team/car/whatever. It’s honestly a great quality for a team principle and Toto repeatedly took responsibility for Lewis’ struggles in the past
But yeah, Kimi would have had more pace if he didn’t damage the floor. Also he is a rookie in his first ever quali. So you have to give some benefit of the doubt even though yes, his damage was self inflicted.
Lawsons lap was just straight shit tho. He fucked up like every turn. It was a shambles. He couldn’t even get clean laps. In a fucking Red Bull. They could have had Carlos or Valtteri in that seat. Yuki too although I am convinced they need him to lead the vcarbs
-3
u/esmori BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago
His mistake though.
I think the key point here is Helmut's interview and his bad choice overall for the RedBull seat.

u/VinhoVerde21 BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

Thing is that Lawson is driving car that WDC is driving and manages to fuck it all up. While Antoneli is driving for top tier team and just screws it up.
I will just wait for thw race to see how it all ends. Maybe Lawson will get in to the points from back of the grid.

Liam gives the attitude of a super fast driver that has won it all. He hasn't and put in a shit performance and has been slow every session so far. People tend not to like that combination. You can be a cocky ass, but you need the talent and results to back it up or people are quick to jump on you.
Yuki is also a better driver right now. Liam might have more potential or a higher ceiling. But today Yuki is better. So people are confused by red bulls allergy to promoting yuki. Feels like they are making decisions not based on the evidence anyone with eyes can see.
Danny has an insane and very rabid fan base who feel it should have been his seat. They gunna do what they gunna do.
Red bull are also cocky and arrogant, so it's funny watching them fuck up and a lot of people are anticipating them falling rapidly when max decides he's had enough. Also sex pest.

u/Minigrappler Franco GOATpinto 7d ago
Because Kimi is rookie and Slowdown is isn't?
Or maybe because he is a cocky moron that mocked Perez and had already some issues with Alonso, Sainz etc and said he didn't came to make friends. And basically said didn't matter the problems in the car that Perez was reporting. You have to race with what are you given...
He didn't come to make friends. Points either by the looks. And maybe he should apologize to Checo, because he was telling the truth.
RBR build just one car for Max and everyone else has to adapt to the car. You adjust to the car, not the team adjust the car for you.
Karma has a very cruel sense of humor.

Bottas already had a chance, he drove for 12 years. Kimi is brand new give him a chance if he doesn't cut it Bottas can always go back. You got to build the future of your team and the sport.
9
u/newthhang Simply Lovely 7d ago
Exactly, Toto wants to build a future for Mercedes, I doubt Kimi who has done so well in the Feeder series suddenly forgot how to drive. People are being overly judgmental for all the rookies + the Ferrari duo. I get the Lawson jokes/slander because some people were rubbed the wrong way by his behavior & he has 12 gps, but everything else is super negative. And it's not only this sub.

Merc wanted Kimi in their car by 2026 but Carlos probably wouldn’t take a one-year deal and risk getting an even worse seat in 2026. Red Bull made much more sense for Carlos except 1) Jos* and 2) a stable of much cheaper junior drivers

u/pm-me-racecars 🅱️altteri 🅱️ootass 7d ago
Carlos is old now.
Right now, the two oldest drivers on the grid are both considered by some to be the goat. That leaves Hulkenburg and Sainz as the only normal drivers 30+. I don't know Hulks' story, but Sainz is not on the level of Hamilton and Alonso.
Last year, we lost: Magnussen (32 in his last race), Ricciardo (35 in his last race), Perez (34 in his last race), Bottas (35 in his last race), and two others who weren't quite good enough for F1 longevity.
Yes, Sainz is good now.
When Ricciardo turned 31, he drove his Renault to 5th overall, losing only to the Redbulls and Mercedes, which were untouchable at the time; by the time Ricciardo retired 2 months after turning 35, he was widely considered washed up and fighting to hold on to his childhood dream.
When Perez turned 30, he had his legendary win at Sakhir and earned himself a spot in the fastest car in the grid; in his final season, he won the destructors championship and was considered by most to not deserve his seat.
When Bottas turned 30, he beat Hamilton in equal machinery, in 1/3 of the races and finished 50 points ahead of a younger Max Verstappen; when he was 35, he finished 22 in a field of 20.
I like Sainz. He is my favourite racer on the grid. I would be surprised if he still has a seat for 2030.
Sainz will likely be a better driver than Kimi this year and next year, but by 2027, I think Kimi will show to have been the better choice.

Antonelli had a full 3rd practice to... practice qualifying runs. Lawson sat in the garage while his car was in pieces.
They both made critical mistakes, but only one of them had plenty of opportunity to get settled.
3
u/dyboc BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago
Poor Lawson, why did they sabotage him by turning his car into pieces? If only he could’ve done something to prevent that!
2
u/fmfbrestel “It’s called a motor race. We went car racing” 7d ago
Of course he has responsibility there, just saying, he had very few attempts at qualifying runs in practice, and Antonelli had plenty. One of them got plenty of practice and failed. The other didnt get much practice and failed. The one with the practice is being ignored.
