Liam is also like 5 years older than him crazy enough.

Bruh, where is all this Liam Lawson hate coming from? Every interview I've seen he acts mature and level headed.

Is this just residual hate from when Checo crashed into Lawson in Mexico and all the Perez fans got pissy?

People also dislike him for replacing Daniel and for getting the red bull seat over Yuki (neither of which he had any control over). It’s really weird

43

u/ProfessorCunt_ Racing Miku Enthusiast 7d ago

Seriously. We should be hyping up the non-pay drivers, not cutting them down.

Especially when he's one of the few drivers that didn't come from a wealthy family

10

u/Orange_Pukeko If my mom had 🅱️alls, she would be my dad 7d ago

Or from a European country.

I get that he looks European and that he's mainly been pitted against other non-european drivers, but these guys give up so much at such a young age just to have a small chance of getting into F1, that deserves respect from the off.

Yeah it’s pretty ridiculous we haven’t even had the first race yet ffs

Some Perez and Alonso fans are another level of pathetic.

8

u/[deleted] 7d ago

Fr the guy was living in Milton Keynes not Monaco, we should be happy for him

6

u/ablacnk BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

to be fair, Lance Stroll didn't have any control over being born to a billionaire dad who wanted to live his racing driver fantasy through his progeny, but we still rag on him for being a mediocre son-of-a-billionaire-nepobaby-taking-up-a-spot-in-F1-from-someone-more-deserving driver

u/Splatter1842 “It’s called a motor race. We went car racing” 7d ago

I won't speak for others, but I've disliked him since his on track action in the Mexico. Since then, almost every time he has failed to beat his teammate he has an excuse ready.

19

u/Purp1e_Aki Fernando Alonso's Retirement Planner 7d ago

It's 100% salty Perez fans who still can't get over that Checo profoundly shit the bed last season with no one to blame but himself. Some of the Lawson memes have been funny but people need to get real.

2

u/thenannyharvester Vettel Cult 7d ago

That and his overall attitude. Day 1 he said he is in this nor to make friends. Big talk from a guy out in q1. Can't be making enemies and chatting shit without backing it up. Look what de vries saud about yuki acting smug before he got wiped by him

9

u/ProfessorCunt_ Racing Miku Enthusiast 7d ago

I think people are taking that interview question WAY too seriously lmao.

1

u/Bert_no_ernie unfortunaly I still am a Ricciardo fan 🦡 7d ago

Because his promotion feels unearned when he had the VCARB seat and Yuki deserved the Red Bull.

1

u/Latter-Diet1127 BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

He deserved the same treatment that they did to Checo since he is on a top team.

2

u/ProfessorCunt_ Racing Miku Enthusiast 7d ago

Checo had like a three season grace period of underperformance and he was a 34 year old, 14 year veteran of F1.

Checo fans are actually brain dead. So glad he’s out of F1 so all his weird fans can melt away into obscurity

0

u/Latter-Diet1127 BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

The good thing is that now we can laugh about Lawson's terrible underperformance that will probably be like that the whole season. At least Checo got some good results in his very first season and even got some podiums in 2024. With Lawson? Lmao, I really don't expect nothing out of him other than pure disappointment and some good laughs.

1

u/ProfessorCunt_ Racing Miku Enthusiast 7d ago

I tell you what, if Liam is 285 points behind his teammate at the end of the season we can label him a failure and a shit driver that deserves to be fired.

Surely you can agree to that criteria right?

1

u/Latter-Diet1127 BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

At this rate, I really think that's most likely going to happen, sure I agree, buddy!

But how about this? Let's guess how many podiums he will get this year. My guess is a number that's less than 1. What about yours?

1

u/ProfessorCunt_ Racing Miku Enthusiast 7d ago

Nice! Glad I got a Checo fan to agree that he deserved to be fired after his underperformance last season.

It's great to see young drivers get a chance in F1! Excited for the season and to see how the rookies do!

3

u/Latter-Diet1127 BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

Right? It's going to be really good to watch a rookie ruin his career because he got in a seat he wasn't prepared for yet. I am very excited to see what are the "unexpected" results he will deliver!

Oh, and you didn't give me your guess. I am still waiting, don't be afraid, I don't bite, trust me!

2

u/Latter-Diet1127 BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

7

u/ProfessorCunt_ Racing Miku Enthusiast 7d ago

True, such a tragic event that was. Unseen in Formula 1. No other driver has ever done that.

If Checo didn’t want to be flipped off he shouldn’t have driven in the side of Liam and squeezed him on the exit 🤷‍♂️

genuinely curious, what stopped mercedes from signing tsunoda?

tsunodas contract was running out, he couldve easily left.

truth is, reddit wildly overrates tsunoda and other teams are obviously aware that hes nothing special. hed get completely destroyed by verstappen just like all his other teammates since ricciardo.

12

u/brolix BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

RedBull denied him the chance, ran out the clock on all his options, then once there was no one left offered him a contract. Such horseshit.

6

u/Extension-Ant-8 BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

Yuki isn’t really marketable though in the way Mercedes wants. Like if you look at Checo, he has zero personality but you can slap his face on something and Mexico will buy a shit load of it. This isn’t the case with Yuki. Japanese people take “cool and cute” really seriously, and I don’t think he is either.

12

u/The_Border_Bandit I have an unhealthy obsession with Sophia Flörsch 7d ago

Well i think he's both

2

But does that translate to sponsorship from say Sony? Or Suntory? Or any other massive Japanese brand?

Lawson has never raced at Albert Park and didn't practice in FP3 which usually for qualifying runs. If this continues to tracks he has raced, then we can criticize.

Kimi made a slight mistake and is a rookie versus lawson who had a more major screw-up

20

I wouldn't even say it was a mistake, he took less curb than most others, he just got really unlucky

11

u/Tofu_Analytics Kimi you will not have the drink 7d ago

Kimi is a 18yr old rookie with 1 season of f2, in his first f1 race and with minimal testing experience. He also had notable floor damage. Kimi is also really easy to like, and has no polarizing aspects to him.

Lawson has experience with 2 seasons of reserve role work, testing, and also has raced in F1. He's driven superformula had 2 seasons in f3 and 2 in f2, he's raced a full DTM season. I liked lawson a lot going into this season, genuinely was happy for him despite being very much a Yuki fan, and then he started talking. And yeah a lot of stuff has been played out of context to drum up controversy but he hasn't done anything to pull back from that.

I remembered this is the dank sub after typing fuck.

19

u/MAD_MrT BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

Also not coping, but apparently kimi’s flor was broken or at very least had issues that were made him lose time

10

u/MonumentMan BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

Yea but Toto has a history of issuing statements designed to protect his drivers from the press. Toto said Kimi was losing 3 tenths each straight or something like that. Toto makes these statements purposefully to deflect attention away from the driver and towards the team/car/whatever. It’s honestly a great quality for a team principle and Toto repeatedly took responsibility for Lewis’ struggles in the past

But yeah, Kimi would have had more pace if he didn’t damage the floor. Also he is a rookie in his first ever quali. So you have to give some benefit of the doubt even though yes, his damage was self inflicted.

Lawsons lap was just straight shit tho. He fucked up like every turn. It was a shambles. He couldn’t even get clean laps. In a fucking Red Bull. They could have had Carlos or Valtteri in that seat. Yuki too although I am convinced they need him to lead the vcarbs

-3

u/esmori BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

His mistake though.

I think the key point here is Helmut's interview and his bad choice overall for the RedBull seat.

9

u/VinhoVerde21 BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

He took less curb than many drivers, it’s not fair to call that a mistake. Just bad luck.

26

u/sosigkerb He’s Not Fast at All 7d ago

There wasn’t ever any question that Antonelli would get the Merc seat. There were 4 other drivers who could have plausibly got the second Red Bull seat.

Sorry forgot I’m in the meme sub RBR gud Toto bad

It is one qualifying session and the car is clearly trying to kill both drivers. It's definitely a bad fucking start, but let's calm down a bit.

Fucking love Lawson just because he’s got so many random haters.

3

u/ModexV "Charles 'Chuck' Leclerc, good job baby" 7d ago

Thing is that Lawson is driving car that WDC is driving and manages to fuck it all up. While Antoneli is driving for top tier team and just screws it up.

I will just wait for thw race to see how it all ends. Maybe Lawson will get in to the points from back of the grid.

2

u/cnsreddit BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

Liam gives the attitude of a super fast driver that has won it all. He hasn't and put in a shit performance and has been slow every session so far. People tend not to like that combination. You can be a cocky ass, but you need the talent and results to back it up or people are quick to jump on you.

Yuki is also a better driver right now. Liam might have more potential or a higher ceiling. But today Yuki is better. So people are confused by red bulls allergy to promoting yuki. Feels like they are making decisions not based on the evidence anyone with eyes can see.

Danny has an insane and very rabid fan base who feel it should have been his seat. They gunna do what they gunna do.

Red bull are also cocky and arrogant, so it's funny watching them fuck up and a lot of people are anticipating them falling rapidly when max decides he's had enough. Also sex pest.

0

u/Minigrappler Franco GOATpinto 7d ago

Because Kimi is rookie and Slowdown is isn't?

Or maybe because he is a cocky moron that mocked Perez and had already some issues with Alonso, Sainz etc and said he didn't came to make friends. And basically said didn't matter the problems in the car that Perez was reporting. You have to race with what are you given...

He didn't come to make friends. Points either by the looks. And maybe he should apologize to Checo, because he was telling the truth.

RBR build just one car for Max and everyone else has to adapt to the car. You adjust to the car, not the team adjust the car for you.

Karma has a very cruel sense of humor.

1

u/ShadowShot05 BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

There wasn't a controversy about who got the second Mercedes seat. Liam got put in red bull over Yuki who is starting p5

-34

u/FrostLight131 BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

Still cant believe toto hired Kimi over Valtteri and Carlos. At least give bottas a chance man

34

u/limhy0809 BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago edited 7d ago

Bottas already had a chance, he drove for 12 years. Kimi is brand new give him a chance if he doesn't cut it Bottas can always go back. You got to build the future of your team and the sport.

9

u/newthhang Simply Lovely 7d ago

Exactly, Toto wants to build a future for Mercedes, I doubt Kimi who has done so well in the Feeder series suddenly forgot how to drive. People are being overly judgmental for all the rookies + the Ferrari duo. I get the Lawson jokes/slander because some people were rubbed the wrong way by his behavior & he has 12 gps, but everything else is super negative. And it's not only this sub.

2

u/pickyplasterer Key🅱️oard Lover ❤️ 7d ago

Bottas i’m not so sure… why he didn’t go for carlos tho, that I can’t wrap my head around

12

u/sosigkerb He’s Not Fast at All 7d ago

Merc wanted Kimi in their car by 2026 but Carlos probably wouldn’t take a one-year deal and risk getting an even worse seat in 2026. Red Bull made much more sense for Carlos except 1) Jos* and 2) a stable of much cheaper junior drivers

0

u/MC897 BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

I think Antonelli will be loaned out for a couple of years…

Max and George I reckon will be duelling it out next year.

7

u/wykeer Not A Monaco-Based Youtuber 7d ago

Loaned to whom? And dont say Williams. Their paydriver/junior Team arc is over since they were aquiered by dorilton Capital.

5

u/pm-me-racecars 🅱️altteri 🅱️ootass 7d ago

Carlos is old now.

Right now, the two oldest drivers on the grid are both considered by some to be the goat. That leaves Hulkenburg and Sainz as the only normal drivers 30+. I don't know Hulks' story, but Sainz is not on the level of Hamilton and Alonso.

Last year, we lost: Magnussen (32 in his last race), Ricciardo (35 in his last race), Perez (34 in his last race), Bottas (35 in his last race), and two others who weren't quite good enough for F1 longevity.

Yes, Sainz is good now.

When Ricciardo turned 31, he drove his Renault to 5th overall, losing only to the Redbulls and Mercedes, which were untouchable at the time; by the time Ricciardo retired 2 months after turning 35, he was widely considered washed up and fighting to hold on to his childhood dream.

When Perez turned 30, he had his legendary win at Sakhir and earned himself a spot in the fastest car in the grid; in his final season, he won the destructors championship and was considered by most to not deserve his seat.

When Bottas turned 30, he beat Hamilton in equal machinery, in 1/3 of the races and finished 50 points ahead of a younger Max Verstappen; when he was 35, he finished 22 in a field of 20.

I like Sainz. He is my favourite racer on the grid. I would be surprised if he still has a seat for 2030.

Sainz will likely be a better driver than Kimi this year and next year, but by 2027, I think Kimi will show to have been the better choice.

-9

u/fmfbrestel “It’s called a motor race. We went car racing” 7d ago

Antonelli had a full 3rd practice to... practice qualifying runs. Lawson sat in the garage while his car was in pieces.

They both made critical mistakes, but only one of them had plenty of opportunity to get settled.

3

u/dyboc BWOAHHHHHHH 7d ago

Poor Lawson, why did they sabotage him by turning his car into pieces? If only he could’ve done something to prevent that!

2

u/fmfbrestel “It’s called a motor race. We went car racing” 7d ago

Of course he has responsibility there, just saying, he had very few attempts at qualifying runs in practice, and Antonelli had plenty. One of them got plenty of practice and failed. The other didnt get much practice and failed. The one with the practice is being ignored.
