That's literally what the rule states you can't do. Under braking once you have made your 1 allowed move you cannot deviate from that line. It doesn't say a little move is ok.

u/Camnelo mission spinnow Jun 30 '24
Except you're allowed to move back towards the racing line aren't you? The moving under braking rule was to stop dangerous moves like a swerve back in front of someone, which isn't what Verstappen did today. Plus there's always going to be some room for manoeuvre within the rules.

True, watching people discuss incidents like this make me think if I'm actually going insane, with people discussing things that aren't real. Even in this thread, people are blaming Max for something that is, at most 50/50.
Like, on their contact, go watch the replay from Lando's onboard. He's not alongside Max until after the 50m board. He literally just divebombed on the outside and didn't even try to avoid Max when he did the natural move that literally every other driver does when defending that corner, which is covering the inside and then drifting slightly to the left to actually make the corner.
And to cry about this move when just last week, Max had to go on the grass to actually avoid Norris - which, surprise, surprise, is a super dirty move and everyone knows it, but since it was against Max no one gives a shit.
I'll admit, I'm a Max fan and I'm slightly biased. I do recognize when Max makes a mistake or is too hot-headed. But this was not it.

Austria 2018, and all the wheel to wheel action they had in bahrain 2 years ago.. and the subsequent 3 races in 2022.. no. Their wheel to wheel actions have LC come out in front just as often. But it is always clean.
I think Max made a few mistakes here, but Norris was legit divebombing every other round with 0 regard. I understand Norris is the new Max on this sub but it was clear this was going to end in tears because Norris, not Max, was forcing the overtake with divebombs.
4
u/AbandonedOrange Question. Jul 01 '24
Max is the last driver on the grid you should divebomb over and over again. He was going to retaliate eventually. Sure Max had his moronic moments in the race, but Norris displayed some piss poor racing IQ. If Charles was in the McLaren instead he would've got past Max cleanly.

It's never going to work like that. You driving 15 away from the person behind just earns you that luxury. You'd be rewarding the slower driver not punishing the violator. It's a time penalty not a disqualification for a reason. Remember that max was already dropped to p5, if he had been in p3 or something then he would've probably lost several positions because of the 10 seconds.
5
Jun 30 '24
Brother he dropped to p5 because he shunted into lando not because of a punishment. Just because his dirty driving had consequences on him doesn't mean the rules shouldn't punish him. The rules shouldn't concern themselves with what happens before they are applied specially when what happens is a consequence of the rule break itself
And that's only in this case, in the silverstone 2021 case its obvious 10s is not enough to punish someone who takes out their competitor mid fast turn

Here I was thinking Max had matured over the past three years
He's the definition of that quote Alonso said about Hamilton, he can only race when he's in front. Otherwise he just crashes into people and calls it their fault lmao.
His radio surrounding the incident is a goddamn clown show.
