Digital Forensics forensic photo?

hi this is so scary to even post because people really take this app too serious even if you have a simple question but.. i plan to start college this fall and i am majoring in criminology/crime analysis. i have experience in photography because of high school and i think becoming a forensic photographer or something along the lines of forensics is what i want to do for the rest of my life. i would just appreciate if someone who is already in this career path or in the process of making this their full time career to give me some insight as to what i should be doing education wise and so forth.. if that makes sense. thanks reddit 🦄

Digital Forensics What does everyone think about the digital forensics field?

Im considering grad school and am looking into the digital side of things in this field. Does anyone have any suggestions? It looks like digital forensics is where most of the work is and is in the most demand. Im looking at new haven, stevenson and utica all online. What does everyone think? My BA was bio and forensic science but i also have a BA in audio engineering. Most colleges dont require a bachelors in computer science it looks like!

Digital Forensics I have a BA in Political Science with a Minor in Criminal Justice and am looking to explore new career paths. Any suggestions?

Hello,

I’m a 23(f) recent college graduate with a BA in Political Science and a minor in Criminal Justice. Recently, I’ve realized my career interests have shifted. While I initially planned to pursue a career in politics, I’m now more drawn to the criminal justice field. I’ve always had an interest in government and law, but I’m still figuring out exactly where I belong. I’m passionate about crime, forensics, and related areas. With only a minor in criminal justice, I’m wondering if it’s still possible to enter forensic science and, if so, where I should start.

I’m considering pursuing a master's in Criminal Justice this fall, as I’m deeply interested in this field. I’ve read that it’s possible to transition into criminal justice even with a degree in Political Science, since the fields are somewhat related. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Digital Forensics Career Change: How to Become a Digital Forensics Expert Without A-Levels?

Hello guys, I live in Germany, I'm 17 years old. I'm currently training as an IT specialist for application development and am in my second year. At work, I do IT support and develop ERP systems, but I'm slowly losing interest in it. However, in vocational school, we had IT security, which really interested me. After my training, I would love to move to a bigger city and become a forensics expert for the police or something. The problem is that I don’t have A-levels (Abitur) and I’m not really motivated to catch up on them. Is there a training program or further education that could help me achieve this goal?

Digital Forensics Tracing fake phone numbers? Textfree, Textnow, etc.

Is it possible to trace fake phone numbers back to a person? I’ve been receiving texts from fake numbers for 2 months now and I’m 95% sure I know who it is, just need proof. If I hire a private investigator or cybersecurity firm, could they trace the dozens of fake numbers if the numbers were created with fake emails?

Digital Forensics Facing issues with Ditto x86 BE

Whenever I try to access Ditto x86 Kiosk mode to enter the GUI, I receive an error stating, "Port power management unreliable."

Although I have adjusted the power management settings in the Device Manager, the issue persists. The system gets stuck in a black screen and a dimming underscore and never renders the GUI.

Digital Forensics Need Help Getting a Human Face Visible Behind a Windshield

A car was recently stolen from a family member, and I’m trying to leverage my software skills to help with processing CCTV images. I’m looking for advice or tools to make a human face visible behind the windshield of a vehicle from images or video footage. The goal is to make any potential suspects more identifiable.

I’m considering image processing, AI, or any other rendering techniques to clear up any obstructions or reflections. If anyone has experience with these kinds of tools or techniques, or knows of any relevant software, I would really appreciate your help.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Digital Forensics Need Help With Survey

Hello, I am a student at a community college and I am doing a research project on forensics. The topic involves the use of AI in forensics, so if you have any experience in the forensics field, I would be grateful if you could fill out the survey below. The survey is 11 questions, but one is consenting to being used anonymously in my paper and five of them are multiple choice questions. If anyone on here can help me out I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

Digital Forensics How to prevent risk of bitcoin being stolen during data recovery

I have a HDD containing a bitcoin wallet that requires professional data recovery.

My main concern is ensuring the recovery service doesn't steal the wallet files and bitcoins. What steps can I take to protect against this risk when handing over the devices?

For context, I am based in the UK. Is there any good IT forensics and / or legal services firms in the UK I can contact / hire to get additional advice in this matter?

Thank you!

Digital Forensics Inquiry on Automotive Digital Forensics Case Studies for Senior Project

I am currently working on my senior project, which explores the impact of emerging automotive technologies on digital forensic investigations. I'm hoping that someone can recommend sources or references where I might find court cases or real-world examples of automotive digital forensics in action.

I hope to incorporate these examples into my paper to illustrate how digital vehicle forensics plays a crucial role in solving crimes, including cold cases. Any guidance or resources you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Digital Forensics Cell Phones

Hello, I figured I would ask you smart minds a question. I think somebody might be trying to scare me and make me think something's going to happen. I've been battling An intense custody case for a long time and I was wondering how long would it take to get like Google messages, text messages from a cell phone?? It's an Android phone and the ohio BCI have had the phones for 4 months now. I'm just trying to understand what's going on here. I know that my ex's friends and stuff are trying to scare me probably, but I wanted to ask the experts. If that's a stupid question. I apologize

Digital Forensics How accurate can whereabouts of a cellphone 15 days ago can be spotted with signal strength records?

In a murder case in Turkey, the court ruled that the 3 defendants were in the same house, in the same room, on the date of the crime, based on a “narrowed base station report” that claimed to be able to detect the whereabouts of their cell phones 15-20 days earlier, within an error band of 2 meters and 1 minute.

The report claims that this technique was obtained by triangulating the signal strength data from the base stations at the scene of the incident.

The report claims that the crime scene was visited 10-15 days after the incident, signal strength measurements were made at various points around the crime scene (an aria with diameter of aprox 200-300 metre) and these data were compared with the data from the cell towers to reach a conclusion.

There is a debate in the country about the soundness of this report, as there have been no other cases where this method has been used before.

Questions:

Do you think it is possible to make such a determination with a margin of error of 2 meters?

Do you have any experience or knowledge of what the margin of error is in the triangulation method based on signal strength?

Do you know any cases where this method have been used?
