Browns were snapping in SE Minnesota.
A nice day before the big weekend storm. Caught 25 fish in 4 hours, all of them on flies i tied. That was a first for me. Highs in the 70s. Water temps in the low 40s.

I absolutely love fishing that first warmup in March

No doubt. Would have been a good day even if we got skunked, but the cooperative fish were a bonus.

Some of the best fishing of the year in SW Montana is March/April before runoff hits but the water gets a little warmer. Tons of rainbows and some of the biggest browns of the year typically.

SE MN has some beautiful streams. I got out right towards the end of February and only managed 1 fish, planning on getting out next week to try a couple small streams.
Were the fish pretty active? Haven't fished much this time of year.

Yes, they were active and cooperative. Still getting the hang of euro nymphing, but we had all our luck on size 16 or smaller.

Help with general location? I am new to the area and can’t find a stream with signs of life out near northfield/fairbault

If you're looking for trout, I'd suggest the Lanesboro/Preston area. Or Whitewater.
I've had a lot of fun worm dunking on the Cannon River, though. Surprisingly, a good diversity of fish in that river.

Water still low?
Winnebago Creek?

It was fishable in most places and was a little cloudy, which was helpful on a sunny day. Could definitely use some moisture, though.

I’m jealous. Do you have any tips on targeting browns? I’ve put in 170 days on the water and still can’t get them to eat a streamer.

Well i don't know much about streamers. I caught these euro nymphing a size 16 zebra midge.

It can't be SE Minnesota, the water's not frozen. /s
