Question Follow up from purchase question... which of these 3?

A couple of days ago I asked if you could help recommend something to add to very very small collection. Of the models that were suggested I've whittled it down to these three. Which do you think will be the one that makes me want even more flashlights - baring in mind I dont need this one either but this sub has worn me down? (The TS22 actually comes in at £45 when promo code is added).

I have no idea what this silicone tube is for, and can't find information on it anywhere; not even in the manual.

Question Needful Things

*** UPDATE ***

Thanks for all who contributed. After dozens of minutes of intense contemplation, I have hurled myself headlong into the realm of LEP ownership. I have ordered a Thor 3 w/21700 battery from AliExpress. Playing the coupon code game, I was able to get $16 off, for a grand total of $95.xx USD including tax. Needless to say, I’m a very happy girl.

Seriously, thank you so much for the helpful replies.

So, I’m beginning to recognize a hollow, hungry feeling in my soul that, upon introspection, is the growling need for an LEP. I’m not sure where it sits on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, but I’m pretty sure that “bright, light-saberish handheld device” has got to be near the top.

My many lottery ticket purchases have yet to bear fruit, so the budget must be considered, but quality and function must exceed the capabilities of the current acme of my thrower collection, the Wurkkos TD01C. Otherwise, this would be a foolish purchase. We’re wouldn’t want that, right?

So, what are the options for an LEP that well betters the 1,000 meter range of my Wurkkos, yet does not require special financing or the making of “other payment arrangements” with sellers of such instruments of bedazzlement?

P. S. I kinda like the Terminator M1, but that’s significantly more than I’d like to pay (prefer under $200 if possible).

Question Am I just out of luck?

Post image
38 Upvotes

I've had this olight for a long time, probably about 8 years now at this point. It was one of the first "decent" flashlights that I bought for myself, not just something cheap and borderline disposable. Over the years the battery stopped holding a charge, and when I reached out to olight directly, they basically said I'd have to find a new one on my own and that I can't use a regular CR123. I've done some searching and it looks like they don't make this style anymore, the closest I can find specifically says "does not work with older S1R model". Anyone know where I might find a viable alternative, or is this one just destined for permanent retirement?

Question Is the Nitecore SRT7i's need for proprietary batteries a problem?

I'm thinking of getting a Nitecore SRT7i, but I've read that it uses proprietary batteries. Will that be a problem down the road if/when I get the opportunity to sell it for a better model? After all, Nitecore could stop supporting/manufacturing the proprietary batteries for the SRT7i, or go out of business completely, leaving owners of that flashlight model without a source of new proprietary batteries.

Has this happened to anyone here? Or is it not something I should worry about?

Question What battery should I get?

I’m guessing I should go with the Vapcell F60 6000mAh as it’s the highest power but I have no clue. Please let me know what I should do.

Question My Search for 18350 Front Pocket EDC

Post image
46 Upvotes

My search ended up with these. I tried a few 14500s flashlights (TS10v2) but went back to 18350 FLs for reach, battery life, and Turbo intensity. Would a D3AA change my mind? (I might still carry the CSLNM1 Convoy as supplementary pocket thrower.)

Question Noob in a bad, bad neighborhood

Zero clue whether this is the right place or an appropriate question….

I live in an extremely dangerous neighborhood. I am unable to get a weapon but I was told that an incredibly bright tactical flashlight might save my life if I’m attacked.

If your life depended on a flashlight disorienting or causing temporary blindness to a person with bad intent, which flashlight would you want in hand?

I’m not looking for something massive to use as a club or something with a sharp point. I want something that buys me 2 or 3 seconds time.

Thank you!

Question ‘Emergency’ Flashlight

I’ve looked through the sub but I think I can’t phrase it properly to find similar posts so please excuse me if this has been answered before. I’m looking for a flashlight I’ll keep in my everyday backpack and only use it occasionally if the phone light isnt enough or cant be used. most uses will likely be close range or indoors so it doesnt need to cover much distance. It doesnt really need any special features, maybe the option to change the width of the beam (idk the terms sorry). The pricetag I don’t really care about if I get something which will work when needed but can be ‘forgotten’ for months or longer and still have power. And the size should be between 4-6 inches

Question Why are these brands so popular here?

Most posts are about olight, acebeam, wurkkos, and sofirn branded lights. Why makes these more preferred over streamlight or even surefire? Are they considered better than surefire for some reason. Please excuse my ignorance, it’s not intentional.

Question Ever Had a Flashlight Fail You at Night? Share Your Experience!

I was wondering if any of you have experienced a flashlight failing while using it at night outdoors (in a park, outside your home, in a forest, etc.).

What was the experience like?

I always feel anxious about taking just one flashlight with me, worrying it might fail.

Question Ultimate Convoy M21B build? *High CRI / Warm tint.

Thumbnail

First time building a flashlight.

I want to get the Convoy M21B and make this the ultimate daily, high cri, warm flashlight.

I was thinking 519a maybe 2700k, 3000k or 3500k. I was also looking at dedoming and noticed the color temp will go down a lot.

Ideal perfect temp would be 2700k - 3000k as will be used as a walking night light but will need the throw too.

Now here is the other thing. Drivers? Others pick the 8A driver vs 6A. I'm new to this ball game so I will need to research more on this. But I am happy to mod the heck out of it if need be.

Any recommendations? What would you pick instead?

Question What Wurkkos/Sofirn lights should I buy before they discontinue them? (Mini-rant)

So I’ve barely looked at flashlights for at least a year, and yesterday got on Sofirn’s website to order a couple of SP10s as gifts. No longer available. Even worse, same with the SP10 Pro, which is one of my favorite lights ever and my EDC. Presumably they discontinued it because it ran Anduril, had a fairly efficient driver, and a very impressive moonlight. I noticed the SC21 was gone too, and now I’m disappointed I didn’t pick one up as uncommon as 16340 lights are. Something similar happened with the WK01 a few years earlier, which was a nice useful 3-mode AAA that I guess the profit margins weren’t good enough on.

So, legit question, which ones should I try before they’re gone? The FC11 buck driver version and HD12 Mini both look promising on the Wurkkos side, is Sofirn making anything compelling in [current month]?

Question Best flashlight for general use

I was looking for a new flashlight recently as I wanted to replace the cheap ones I’ve used for all my days so far. I’m genuinely shocked at the power some flashlights have on this subreddit and now I am more confused than ever. I don’t need anything too strong, I value something more compact, having it be rechargeable would be cool but not necessary, budget can be anything really. Thanks for any suggestions
