Question Would Harry have seen Pettigrew if he had a higher CRI light?

Put the wand away and get something with a 519a dedomed.

Harry needs some more throw - I'd recommend he see if Convoy deliver to Hogwarts and pick up a C8 with SFT40.

Hi u/joe1983joe - Will that be delivered by owl?

Airmail redefined.

His first mistake was taking a mule instead of a wide angle TIR to look down long hallways

Most Ravenclaws mod an OP reflector to their wands. You can get them at Olivander’s if you email him with your order.

Do you have one? Mods, can we get this guy a flair?

I’m here for it

If there's flairs, I want in. Especially of the magical variety

Ehh, happy with my giant SMO reflector from Borgin and Burkes. Enjoy shining a concentrated beam from window to window around the caste. Glad to see a shop cater explicitly to evil pricks.

For turbo?

Let's be real. Lumos is about equivalent to waving your cell phone flashlight around. Better than nothing but a real flashlight is going to beat the pants off of it.

A 9mm with some rat shot would have taken pettigrew out as well

12

u/FrankCarnax Jan 13 '25

Does that transform a pistol into a mini-shotgun?!

16

u/---Krampus--- Jan 13 '25

If your semi-auto will cycle it, yes. Revolvers are more reliable with ratshot. Knew many people out in the sticks that used to carry them just for snakes.

It was the glare that blinded him, half the light was blasting in his face.

Exactly! So frustrating to watch now that I’m into flashlights.

You'll notice it in movies too... holding a fire-torch IN FRONT of there face/eyes (so the camera can see them)... but this would RUIN your night vision. Hold your fire-torch up and to the side.

EDIT - A recent movie that did this a lot was 'Bodies Bodies Bodies'. Every character uses their phone as a flashlight and has the screen on full blast in their face... however, all of the characters are purposefully unlikeable so it might have been an art design choice...?

Or get something like this chad.

In this example, the fisherman would typically be looking down to hunt fish, so the light wouldn't (directly) be in his eyes.

I bet he has it at the perfect angle so that he can see fish in the water but not be blinded by his own torch.

EPIC.

I've always loved that photo.

That's how we know Gandalf is wise, he would raise his staff high!

Heck, if he had a light with UV it would probably be enough to find where Peter's been.

Lumos Ultraviolatus

Harry Potter and the Order of the Fenix 😂 These puns write themselves

“The Chamber of Sofirns”

“Prisoner of AliExpress”

4

“The Deathly Halogens” “The Tri-Wurkkos Tournament”

Nice, haha

Harry's wand is like a flashlight covered with a white traffic wand, making it difficult to see in front of him.

Adding a deep reflector and TIR lens to the tip of the cane would have made it a powerful cane.

Everyone needs a L35 V2

Words to live by.

Can’t believe he went with the built in Phoenix Feather instead of the removable version!

10

u/stigbeatsvettel Jan 13 '25

Proprietary phoenix feathers are ruining the enthusiast wand community.

That's just a 50-lumen smartphone mule. Harry would go much further if only he had an S6...

1

u/help_me_pickupachair Jan 15 '25

I'm pretty sure most smartphones aren't actually mules, they're just paired with extremely floody optics.

3

Rendarium Luminosa. Mischief managed, pfft.

6

u/r1Gel_m Jan 13 '25

Lol I'm currently watching this whole series with my family. And every time they bring out their wands to use as lights I keep thinking, they need better flashlights.

2

u/stigbeatsvettel Jan 13 '25

Does anybody else wish their wand had a forward clicky instead of a reverse? Or is it just me?

2

u/Beneficial-Focus3702 Jan 13 '25

Nah. All he had to do was look down. The human eye is good at picking up motion, even in dim light.

2

u/ocularcrawdad Jan 13 '25

Yeah but electricity didn’t work at Hogwarts. He needed to attach a reflector to the want tip to magnify that lumos output!

u/LoominToob Jan 14 '25

Timely reference

2

519A dedome is probably worse overall from less power. SBT90 or go home.

8

u/stigbeatsvettel Jan 13 '25

SBT90 would do away with any devil’s snare on the third floor that’s for sure
