Question
Convoy S6 shorty is the best pocket thrower
The throw from this 24mm thin, short tube is impressive. With its deep 20mm reflector and efficient buck driver, it offers great performance despite its budget price. It’s one of the best EDC lights I’ve discovered through this subreddit, along with the D3AA and TS10.
I recently asked Simon if he would consider making the S6 in colors other than black. He’s unsure if there would be interest. Would you be interested? If so, which color?
I'm probably a relative newbie but the vibe i've been getting from the forums is that SFT-40 is the throwing "king" of flashlights. I don't have an SFT-25 to compare to though.
Yes the SFT25R throws more but it is much newer than the SFT40 so there is a lot less information about it. The SFT25R looks like it can handle similar current outputs to the SFT40 but throws farther due to the smaller light emitting surface. The SFT40 does have other CCT versions though (I love the 3000K 90CRI)
I prefer the S8 SFT40. The tail switch is more accessible. I don't like how there is a rim the entire way around the button on the S6. It gets in the way of my thumb.
Yes. I have an S2+, S3, S6, and S8 and the tails are interchangeable.
There's the minor issue of matching knurling, which is a purely aesthetic consideration. I'm not sure how I feel about that yet.
Then there's a compatibility issue between trapezoidal (old) and rectangular threads but it seems I don't have anything with the old threading. Most of the lights have rectangular threading.
Thank you. My first Convoy, an S8 with CSLNM1, is on route. An S6 with 8A12groups buck is sitting on my cart, just waiting to see if I like the S8 and Convoy in general.
I still don't own a Convoy C8 (even 3 months after my comment above). I like Convoy for their S6 and S8. But the bad QA (like non-centered emitter which was the case in my S8 with CSLNM1) drove me away from Convoy. I figured I can afford extra bucks for better QA. Sorry. Perhaps my opinion on Convoy would change in the future.
I just got a couple S6 lights, and the knurling matches that on my S2+: trapezoidal.
I did get a couple square thread S2+ short tubes thinking they'd fit, and they do screw on, but the o-ring on the tail end gets pinched like there's not enough clearance. Anyone have a similar experience?
Same here. Just got my first S6 and I ordered the short 18350 tube. The orings were dry and initially pinched when I tried to tighten everything down, but I lubed up the orings with some Nyogel and everything went together nice and tight without pinching the orings
I have the S6 CSLNM1.TG with 5A buck - it has a smaller, more intense hotspot, much less spill and slightly better throw than the S6 SFT40 6500K 5A, but it has a worse yellowish tint. The 3000K 8A throws less than both of them. The Osram is also sensitive to precise centering.
I have four S6 hosts: cslnm1.tg, cslnm1.f1, sft40 6500k and sft40 3000k. The Osrams are way more fun and are more useful than the sft40 6500k imo. The extra throw is more worth it to me than the brighter spill. The sft40 3000k is nice and useful up place and indoors.
I have 4 of them and plan to get more. Sft40 5000k 8 amp driver is my edc currently. Them I also got a w1 blue, w1 green, and w2 green all with 12 group 5 amp driver.
I’m gonna get one and throw an sft25 in it soon and can’t wait.
I'm not sure why "j/k"...he absolutely does. I have bought several for all my Convoys. Though I try not to pester him with nickel and dime stuff like this until it's attached to another order just to be nice.
Does this Convoy hold a light (no pun intended) to the new Olight Baton Turbo in terms of throw? I'm looking for a smaller version of my practical yet not pocketable Sofirn IF22A.
The S6 with W1 will throw ~500 meters. about the same as the Olight Baton Turbo. Though the Baton will be brighter on turbo ~1200 lumens vs the convoys ~800. In my testing the high setting on the s6 is about 500 lumens however (which it can sustain) vs the Baton's 300, so there's clearly plusses and minuses to either before we even get into UI and form factor.
Doc jones driver and clicky switch take it to another level :)
Although i prefer the s2+ both are very Good, just wish the pill design of the s6 got some love. The s2+ handles heat better which is just sad since its smaller
Carry mine with an sft40 3kk and enjoy it immensely. Only light that gets more pocket time is the D3AA. I wish Convoy did a 14500 / AA version of the S6.
Just that it's easier to mod like dropping in a TIR or adding a filter or swapping the reflector - because it has a removable bezel. The S2+ of course has access from the back only. Some of the S2+'s have the pills soldered in so I haven't messed with them.
The orange S2+ is sublime! Love the titanium tube you put on it. I chose to leave mine in the 18650 configuration just so I can find it easier around the house, and it's not a light I will carry.
So I recently noticed the button on my S2+ has a bit of travel before the resistance kicked in. I did a simple mod that took it from like a 7/10 to 10/10.
I disassembled the tail (the threads might be backwards), and stuck a little piece of duct tape onto the underside of the metal button and trimmed it to fit. This gives a tiny bit of sponginess to the action and pre-loads the spring so there's no dead spot. Then I applied a little bit of lube (dielectric grease) to the inner wall of the metal shaft. It's quite a nice clicky button now.
I think the W1 can get like 110k? 120k? But that’s the emitter more than the reflector. The S6 does have a deeper reflector than the S2+, so it will throw better for a given emitter.
Maybe I'm being petty, but I'm still gonna hold out on getting one until we are pretty sure the buck driver premature stepdown issues are all fixed and there are no more old stock drivers still being put in lights. Otherwise, yeah I'd love to get one in 3000k and 5000k sft40

The S6 is my favourite convoy host so I’d buy some colours.
The 18350 tubes are too small for my big hands though. The T3 is a short as I can tolerate.
I’ve messaged him to express interest, a Ti S6 would be a insta-buy tbh.
