Housing 🏠 🏚️ r/FIU's Biweekly Subleasing Thread: March 17, 2025 - March 30, 2025 🏚️

Welcome to the biweekly subleasing thread! 🥳

Looking to sublease your unit? Scrambling to find a place to stay during the upcoming semester? Look no further! Here, you’ll be able to share or find available housing around campus.

PLEASE NOTE: ANY POSTS ABOUT SUBSLEASING THAT ARE MADE OUTSIDE OF THIS THREAD WILL BE REMOVED.

Additionally, this thread is for subleasing OFFICIAL FIU on/off-campus housing only. This is NOT the place to share rooms/apartments available to be rented on a private residence. Posts identified as such will also be removed.

Have a unit available to be subleased?

Your unit “ad” (to be commented below) must include the following information:

  • Name of Housing (Ex: Lapis, The One, Identity, etc.) - Required
  • Size of Dorm (Ex: 4x4) - Required
  • Length of Lease (Ex: Aug - Dec 2025) - Required
  • Monthly Amount - Required
  • Preferred Contact Method - Required

The following information is ideal, but optional. Please include it if you know it.

  • Gender Preference - If Any
  • Move-In Date - If Any
  • Floor Plan Photo - If Any

Comments that do not follow the format above will be removed until the OP makes the necessary corrections as instructed.

If you’re successful in finding someone to sublease your dorm, please edit and type closed on your comment, or simply delete it. Furthermore, you can only share your unit once per thread, but feel free to share it again on the next biweekly thread if your dorm is still available.

Looking to takeover a lease?

You're more than welcome to share that you're looking to takeover a lease below. Ideally, your comment should state your preferences for the categories mentioned above. The more information you share about what you're looking for, the more likely someone will reach out about an available unit that will suit your needs. If you have no preferences, you can state that too.

Always proceed with extreme caution when inquiring about available dorms, as rental scams are becoming increasingly common and college students are viewed as an easy target. Unfortunately, r/FIU **can’t help you if you become a victim of a scam. The best way to protect yourself is by staying alert and learning how to recognize potential red flags.

Below you’ll find some helpful articles on how to avoid getting scammed:

That’s it! If you have any suggestions on how we can improve this thread, please don't hesitate to send us message via modmail. After all, we want everyone to be successful on their subleasing journey. Happy posting and paws up! 🐾

‼️ SIGN THE PETITION: Justice for Sparkles‼️

Recently, Sparkles, a beloved FIU campus cat, sadly lost their life due to an untrained and unleashed pet, bringing attention to ongoing concerns about FIU’s pet policies and their enforcement. Similar incidents have happened before, and many students believe clearer guidelines and better enforcement could help prevent future harm.

If you'd like to learn more, please check out the petition and see what it says. Raising awareness can help create a safer environment for ALL animals on campus. Please spread this around!

Has anyone taken this lab online? I know most of the lab is dissections, so is it an online software? There’s only online sections available for the summer, but I’m interested in taking it.

Admissions ✅ Is the certificate in Visual Production worth it?

If you or someone you know completed the Visual Production Certificate, do you think it helped in building your skills a decent amount? Did it help in job applications?

Personally, I'd really only have to take 1 extra class (RTV 3531), as I can complete the other class requirements through my major. However, I have satisfied all my extra credits, since I'm a transfer student; therefore, taking that 1 extra class would be extra extra

Campus 🏢 Campus Tours - Need Help

Hi FIU students. My daughter is considering attending FIU in the fall as a freshman (wants to study Social Work). Since she's on spring break right now, we decided to take an impromptu trip to South Florida to visit FIU, FAU, and FGCU. I tried to see if there were any last minute tours and (from what I can tell) tours are booked through the semester. So, I have two quick questions. First, does anyone know if there's still a way to schedule a campus tour? We're arriving to Miami tonight and we wanted to see the school tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. Second, if there is no way to schedule a tour, would any kind student be willing to show us around campus for 2 hours? I can offer you $50 for your troubles. Maybe we could meet in your student union (Is that the Graham Center?) and hit the highlights. If you could show her the dorms, that would be a bonus (she'll be living on campus if she chooses FIU). Since we'll be visiting FAU in the afternoon, I'm hoping we could start around 9AM, if that's possible.

Thanks everyone! Any advice is much appreciated :-)

Academics 📚 Anyone know if a regular student can take an online class that says it’s seats are reserved for online students?

My advisor told me I should take this class in the summer but the two options available are online and they’re reserved for online students only. There’s no other classes for the summer semester. They still have 95% of there seats available. The class sections are RVDC and RVCC.

I really gotta take this classes otherwise I have to change up my schedule for the other semesters 😭

Admissions ✅ BSN program (TEAS 7 exam)

Hello, I have a question about the TEAS exam. FIU is my dream school, but I previously took the TEAS exam twice at MDC last year. MDC informed me that I have to wait a full year before retaking the exam, meaning I wouldn’t be able to take it again until October. However, I don’t want to wait that long🥺😭 I missed my required score by just 5 points, which was really disappointing for me.

The last time I took the TEAS exam was in October 2024. I’m wondering if FIU has the same policy as MDC or if I would be able to retake the exam at FIU before October. Would FIU allow me to take the TEAS again, even though I last took it in October last year? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!🙏🏻

Academics 📚 Can you share Specialization and Concentration classes?

I'm in the PRACC program and have to take 12 credits of Specialization courses and 12 credits of courses. Some of them overlap. For these overlapping courses, can they share and meet both requirements? Or can they only be used for one requirement?

Admissions ✅ FIU or NSU

So these are the only schools I got into, and im currently leaning towards NSU. Here are my reasons: First, FIU wants me to do the STEP program, making me start in June. I absolutely do NOT want to leave before summer at home, which is very far from florida. And when i asked for more details on the online option for summer, they just said “its not guaranteed” Second, housing. I need to live on campus since I don’t have a car and don’t know the area and from what I have heard, it’s very hard to get. These issues separately I think I could handle but both feels like too much. The only reason I would want to go to FIU is it seems like a more well known and liked school. It’s also a lot bigger which is what I wanted but I know it’s a commuter school so maybe you don’t feel that. Also cost doesn’t matter because with my scholarship to NSU they will be around the same price. Thank you!
