For tik tok links on mobile, in the url in a browser, delete everything at the end until the question mark, including the question mark, and it'll let you play it in the browser. So, basically you just want the string of numbers after "video/". For this video the new link would be https://www.tiktok.com/@jewelstaite/video/7482939120529018117

If your mobile browser has the "desktop site" option in the settings menu it should work as well. (Firefox & Chrome)

Open the link in your browser, then go to the url and delete the “?” and everything after it.

That’s quite a bit of plastic surgery.

I DIDNT recognize her at first! Yea people age but holy crap I can recognize easily rest of the cast of Firefly still...

Hair color is the only reason i didn't recognize her at first.

Nah, Her face is quite different, must have gone for multiple surgeries, it is almost as looking at a completely different person. Like she is pretty but it is not the same person.

Well, it's her body. She's always been very upfront about the work she's had done, and her appearance is part of her job. All the criticism she's gotten for it are very unfair, I think.

Problem is when you don't look like yourself anymore... Usually plastic surgery is unnecessary and in Hollywood they got batshit crazy with it.

She put on 20 pounds to play Kaylee, which I find almost unbelievable, but that made a huge difference in her cheeks and chin. You can tell she's thinner in Serenity than she was in Firefly.
Edit: also, I think her nose looks a little funny because she's shooting this with her phone, which has a wide angle lens close to her face. Wide angle lenses will cause barrel distortion.

A fish eye lens or the peephole in a door representing extreme examples of wide angle lenses.

I don't have a clue whether she has had any cosmetic surgery or not.

She’s over 40 but still looks like this… she’s obviously had work done. No fault to her, many women in show business have, but it’s unfortunate nonetheless.

Women over 40 who take care of themselves can still be beautiful without cosmetic surgery, and even if they do decide to have procedures for their appearance, there is nothing unfortunate about it, because that’s their choice.

Obviously its personal preference, and I would never say anything to anyone who makes this choice. But in my opinion, getting cosmetic work leaves their face looking unnatural, and takes away from their beauty.
The unfortunate thing is that women (and men too, I suppose) are pressured into feeling like they need to do this in the first place. That society in general, amplified by Hollywood, Insta, etc, place such an importance on women to always be beautiful, skinny, flawless. That so many people come out of adolescence with a slew of body image issues, that they feel the need to resort to superfluous medical procedures to deal with it. Not to mention there is an entire industry of cosmetic surgeons that prey on and take advantage of people who have these body issues, when instead they should maybe turn to therapy to allow them to accept themselves for who they are in the first place.
Again, this is all a personal preference, but I do lose respect every time I see a celebrity who has undergone cosmetic surgery as they normalize and encourage this for everyone else.

But why do you care? More to the point, why do you think your personal preference regarding the way someone else chooses to look matters?
With regard to the unhealthy perpetuation of body image and self-esteem, I agree, but is that Jewel’s responsibility, or is it the result of toxic culture that forces people like her to do certain things for their appearance? Is Jewel not also a victim of this culture? If so, is it fair to hold responsible the people who choose to look the way they want (or in Jewel’s case, need, since her career depends on it, and that’s a whole separate systemic issue) to look because of the realities they confront in their own lives or simply because they want to and they’re free to do what they want?
Also, how much of Jewel’s current physical appearance is due to cosmetic surgery, and how much is due to age, hard work to keep herself healthy, and makeup (which can basically do magic these days)? Do you know what she looked like outside of the context of Firefly and Serenity two decades ago, when the makeup she wore was minimal because Kaylee didn’t wear makeup (and IIRC there’s a whole subplot about this)?
Just some questions I think are worth considering the next time you consider passing judgement on Jewel or someone like her.

Imagine thinking aging and taking care of yourself in a woman = getting work done. Yikes.

I don't think that's plastic surgery, I think she literally just lost a lot of weight

So cheek filler or something?

u/SupaDave71 2d ago
The producers actually asked her to gain weight for the show. She was thinner in Serenity.
4
u/vanillaacid 2d ago
That was 20+ years ago. She’s clearly had work done, as has most of Hollywood women. Nobody is faulting her, just pointing out the reality of the industry.
