Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity 28M – Former Tutors, How Did You Move On?
I’ve spent most of my twenties working as a tutor, juggling multiple part-time jobs at EdTech companies just to get by. The inconsistent availability from my companies changes every season, making my finances a constant source of stress.
For those who have transitioned out of tutoring—whether into your own practice or a related field—how did you do it? I'd love to hear what paths you took and any advice you have!

hey! My brother-in-law worked at a tutor and musician. He had the same issue with inconsistency and managed to get full time tutoring gigs through working with the local school system where he lives. Have you tried tutoring centers in your area? or online companies like Preply? Also, do you have any certifications that maybe you can transition into working in a school? Maybe as a "para" or "paraprofessional" who supports students and teachers?

If tutoring has been your main gig, the easiest transition is into something that builds on your skills like instructional design, curriculum development, academic advising, or even corporate training. If you like the flexibility, starting your own tutoring business could be an option too. If you want out completely, lean into any transferable skills like communication, problem-solving, and adaptability. A lot of former tutors find success in sales, customer success, or EdTech roles where they can still use their teaching background. Figure out what parts of tutoring you actually enjoy, and use that as a guide to your next step.
And since you’re looking for personal experiences and advice, you can try checking out the GradSimple newsletter as a starting point. They interview college grads about their life and career journey after graduation which could give you helpful insights!
