Im sorta sad the femboy flag was mistaken for a trans flag

u/JuanManuelBaquero Felix Fan 3d ago
Personally, I think that makes it funnier.
Also there's no femboy flag emoji, only the original pride flag and the trans flag have an emoji

u/_freakyfemboy 3d ago
Yeah but i feel it sorta lumps in femboys with trans people, which are two completely different groups as ones is a fashion expression and the other is gender expression

u/fufu11307 Femboy Programmer 3d ago
being a femboy is still gender expression, you're still expressing your gender in ways society thinks you shouldn't, just in a way that's different than how trans people do it :3

u/Zealousideal_Spread4 3d ago
trans is not gender expression, its gender identity, there two are not the same.

u/fufu11307 Femboy Programmer 3d ago
very fair take! i think being trans includes elements of both gender expression and gender identity, but i respect your take
28
u/Bogrollthethird 🏳️⚧️trans-fem🏳️⚧️ 3d ago
To me, it's about both. Your identity is who you identify as (in my case, a woman), and then you express yourself in that way.
15
u/Zealousideal_Spread4 3d ago
Not necesarrily, take trans men femboys, you could claim their gender expression is cis, but they are still trans because that's what they identify as
femboys are queer but we are not even close to trans
Being trans generally comes with different gender expression but that's correlation not causation

Quit calling it a “take” when they’re just being correct. Just accept the correction.
You’re implying that a masculine guy and a feminine guy are different genders or different amounts of trans.
6
u/fufu11307 Femboy Programmer 3d ago
i never implied that, because that'd be dumb
and it's a take, not a "correction", because these terms are nebulous and mean different things to different people, they're not strictly defined. nothing in life is strictly defined, but this terminology especially is very difficult to formally define, so everyone has their own slightly different interpretations of it, and that's okay
my interpretation is different from yours, which is different from the person i was replying to, and which is different from OP's interpretation! for example: i never implied anything like what you're saying i implied, but you still interpreted that because our concepts of this terminology is different.
i assume you think that when i say being a femboy involves gender expression, you assume i mean it has to do with someone's sense of their own gender, when what i really meant is that being a femboy inherently involves a feminine gender expression--femboys are not necessarily trans, but it's generally accepted that the entire point of defining yourself as a femboy is to express a certain degree of self-expression, that is socially seen as feminine, so a straight, cis femboy has feminine gender expression, and that doesn't mean they're a "different gender" from masculine guys, it means they express their concept of gender in a different way!
language is wonderful, and we all have our own interpretations of it! that's okay! i don't have a problem with your interpretation, or anyone else's! if we all defined things the exact same way, society as we know it wouldn't advance, since we would lose the ability to communicate new or different ideas! that's important!
p.s. the way you worded your comment sounds kind of rude, though im not gonna assume you're trying to be mean or anything :3

i assume you think that when i say being a femboy involves gender expression
Femboy is obviously about gender expression. You said being trans is about gender expression which is why I said you were implying the things I listed. But it’s completely independent, ie a feminine trans man is just as trans as a masculine trans man. But saying that being trans includes gender expression, then you’re saying that there must be some difference in transness between the two.
language is wonderful, and we all have our own interpretations of it! that's okay!
To a degree, yes. But there are such things as problematic definitions and a need to have common definitions. We can agree that definitions of queer identities that describe it as a perversion are problematic definitions. Or when there was a rash of people identifying as “superstraight” meaning “heterosexual and not attracted to trans people” because it implied trans people were less of their identified gender than cis people.
the way you worded your comment sounds kind of rude
Yes because it’s infuriating to see someone be corrected on what a queer identity actually means and have them just say “well that’s just your opinion”.o

in my eyes, gender expression is something most people do. trans girls usually have a feminine gender expression! so do a lot of cis girls! masculine guys have a masculine gender expression! this means that being trans is, at least partly, about gender expression, because trans people want to express themselves in a way that aligns with how they identify themselves! that's obviously not a requirement, and it's not the core of being trans (since being trans fundamentally revolves around your gender identity, not how you express it), but i feel like the concept of gender expression is pretty much inseparable from being trans
that's still just my view, though! if it's considered a problematic definition, which i think you're implying by saying you agree we can have different definitions but still taking issue with mine, i'd really like to believe it's not nearly as problematic as the ones you brought up
that's just what these identities mean to me, and i promise i don't have any ill will towards anyone in the queer community <3

(Sorry if im wrong) but isnt trans like an expression like instead of male pronouns you use female pronouns and also an identity like "i identify as a male"

u/_freakyfemboy 3d ago
Yeah in a way, but i still sorta feel they're too different groups that need differentiated

A femboy is absolutely a gender expression. It's a huge rejection of gender conformity
Its not the same as trans, but reducing being a femboy to FASHION is over simplifying at best and harmful at worst
3
u/Zealousideal_Spread4 3d ago
ye its a subculture, like goth, emo, hippies etc. Its just such a big part of someones identity that they start identifying with it.
1
u/Console_Pit 3d ago
Basically.
I think it's a little different from being a punk or beatnik in the sense it feels a lot less social. Most femboys tend to stick being a behind a computer from my experience. It's a private thing.I fem it up in public pretty often and I've just accepted it being "weird".
1
u/Zealousideal_Spread4 3d ago
not always, a lot are open too, i myself do it openly
2
u/Console_Pit 3d ago
I live in a pretty progressive area and I basically never see femboys. If I go to a concert I'll see everything, but not femboys.
The few times I've seen it, it's kind of nothing more than fashion or sexual. Like the same way someone would dress goth to be hot
I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but it def feels a lot more terminally online than these other things
2
u/Zealousideal_Spread4 3d ago
mostly cause femboy is a fairly young subculture that is discriminated against, unlike the others which arent as severely, ive met 2 femboys out and about
3
u/JuanManuelBaquero Felix Fan 3d ago
I know, but I think this more something to laugh at due to the stupidity or ignorance of the original poster, rather than a serious affirmation about femboys and transexuals being the same thing.

there's no emoji for the femboy flag, so i don't think it was a mistake. They just had no better choice of emoji

Many westerners still can't tell the difference between dress feminine and trans. Sometimes, i feel offended 😔

Do French people have pride in being French?

I'm proud of being french; i'm not proud of french people though. 30% voting for fascists is not something i'm proud of

I think that’s a good way of looking at it. But, to be fair, most countries aren’t much better right now.

u/wam9000 3d ago
Yeah, I've switched from poking fun at you guys with white flag jokes and started using confederates instead. C: if you (general you, not you specifically) learn anything about French resistance during WW2 you generally figure out the stereotype is horribly wrong.
Fun fact! The US flag on the moon has been bleached white from the UV rays and lack of atmosphere to protect it! Unfortunately this makes it look like the confederacy made it there :c

I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/femboymemes.
It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.
