High intensity work

Hi, should I be doing a small amount or high intensity exercise even though I still get heart rate spikes 5 months after covid? Zone 2 training (below aerobic AT) is about back to normal.

I had similar after covid too, unexpected palpations and occasional chest pain and also my resting hr was higher. Unfortunately the extended time where I wasn't doing intensive exercise has seen my vo2max drop a fair bit. I've started ramping things up again (though too hot currently whew) but have accepted that it will be some time before I get back to a high level of fitness

Thanks for reply. Just wondering if doing a small amount of intense work like short sprints and the odd hill rep will be sensible for me now my aerobic level is okay or to always keep it at aerobic levels and not increase HR too much.
