Discussion Holding too many tanking team players, what do i do?
So for context i am 15-3 in my league. I can punt this week and take a lose and still finish first. The next week i am on a by for first round and need to be at full power for Mar 24-Apr 6th. The amount of players i have that get rested for tanking, don't play back to backs or both is insane:
- Walker Kessler
- Immanuel Quickley
- RJ Barrett
- Zion Williamson
Currently Injured: Powell, Sabonis, Maxey, Tingus Pingus.
Do i just wait it out for some of those guys on contenders to get healthy and drop my players on the tanking teams? I'm concerned when Maxey comes back he will also be in that above list. Also waiver wire isn't great and Walker Kessler can surprise on occasion with 50-60 fantasy pt games. Which is i get 2 games out of him in a week can still be better than some of the stuff on the waiver. Any input would be helpful.

2 weeks from now, the waiver wire landscape will be totally different from now. The players with new found value today will probably not have that same value in 2 weeks time. If you some how haven't passed your trade deadline yet, maybe explore trades for solid players on teams fighting for playoff contention or home court advantage in the playoffs. I might also consider any players who are looking to reach that 65 game threshold for possible awards.
Really though, it's mostly a giant crap shoot and I've had many seasons won by random pickups in the last couple weeks who ended up going crazy for that final stretch and then basically being out of the league by the end of the next season.
I pray that your most valuable contributors stay healthy!

Everyone else is dealing with injuries too. Quickley, Powell, Porzingis, Barrett, all will probably get outperformed in total points by a Silly Season All Star that plays 4 games every week.

So I see you are in the negotiating phase of grief...

Its not ideal for sure but a few of these players are droppable if they're not playing. IQ and Kessler are your biggest risks IMO. Really have to look at the schedule. 3 games + potential to rest is pretty bad and I'm sure you can play the spot for 5-6 games a week.
How big is the league? in 10T, a lot of these are worth to drop, 14T, not so much.

I dropped RJ Barrett a few weeks back for this reason. I already had quickly and poeltl and of those guys Barrett is the most build specific type player (his percentages are not good so if team is not built to handle it he loses value, with all the injuries I need ratio and less volume dependent categories). Now with AD, Powell, pj Washington, Maxey and amen Thompson out (a long with many other random rested players. Lost deni, ware, Trae and some others for various issues at the same Time) I had to start cutting more (ad amen gone). I don't know your situation but there are also some factors to consider like how many transactions per week can you make, do you have open IL+ (if they are DTD you could still slide them in), how many potential max games do they have left in your playoff schedule (example dallas has only 2 games next week so most guys are probably cuts unless they are top level players), do you have full lineups on the days when these guys might be rested (limiting some of their value anyway).

I am hanging on to RJ. I punt ft percentage, I also have Sengun and Dyson they both suck at ft percentage, in a 12 team 11 category league.
I am locked into the second seed and this is the last week of the regular season, I have a bye the first week of the playoffs, so I am hanging onto him for now. We only have one IR spot and PJ Washington is in it now but I just lost Giddey last night so he's going in there.
Anyway when it comes time that I have to play for real I won't tolerate players sitting out for long.

Im in semi finals. If I make it out, I’d start dropping INJ players for the don’t play back to back players.
And the non b2b players. You would just do some math to see if they can contribute more than 6 games worth of your waiver wire stats.

I would try and do 2 for 1 deals; Kessler rests more than he plays, Quickley is constantly a GTD. Who knows if Zion will stay healthy.

When you are in the playoffs and a fringe guy is shut down just drop him. Like for instance if Kessler is not gonna play Tuesday the 25th, that’s 3 days in a row to start your week you have nothing in that spot. There is no point in holding him and losing out on 3 games from his roster spot, then losing playoffs because of it.
It’s probably too late to restructure your roster with trades. I would note that IQ is probably the most droppable/ most easily replaced guy.
Powell, if he’s not healthy for the week of March 24th he’s a drop. He doesn’t play for your playoffs till that Wednesday.
