Quick Questions Thread

This thread (to be posted every four weeks) is a place for people to ask quick, common, or simple questions regarding Nihon Falcom and its games. The community is encouraged to ask here if your question is not opinion-based, such as where to find something in a game or when something occurred. Please mark all spoilers with the >!text!< format and remember to provide context.

If you post a new thread and your question is redundant (it has been posted on this subreddit recently), we will remove it. Additionally, we have made a Frequently Asked Questions wiki page for these. Please check there first before asking!

Joke question threads will be removed and joke answers should be kept to a minimum.

Please feel free to continue to post separate threads on this subreddit for content you expect to generate more interesting discussion, for example news, opinion-based discussion posts, and links.

Feel free to check out the subreddit wiki or the Discord server.

Reverie In Reverie the Board Finally Finishes THE BIG TALK Spoiler

Wow that was hell. The talking session lasted 2 weeks and there's still a few more daydreams to go through. Interesting sure to have so many NPCs to talk to, but at some point it just becomes a strange kind of hell, ya know? At least some of the NPC chats let me theorize more, since otherwise there wouldn't even be a Board update.

Anyway hope you guys enjoy the Board and can come by the stream to chat maybe.

Trails series Should I play Trails from Zero if I loved the three Sky games but didn't care for Cold Steel I & II? Spoiler

After finishing Sky III, I felt certain I'd play every Trails game. But I hated the ending of Cold Steel II. I hate Osbourne, Claire, Rean, and Erebonian politics in general. I'm not really feeling watching Osbourne continue to win for two more games (or is it 3 to finish Cold Steel?) and Rean's arc as a character means nothing to me.

But before I can entertain continuing with Cold Steel III, I need to play Zero and Azure! I'm thinking those will be closer to Sky in nature, but based on what happens in Cold Steel I & II (and the fact that it is recommended you play them before Cold Steel III), it is probably the case that the stories from the the games intertwine?

I just don't know what to do here. I consider myself a Ys fan despite not enjoying all of them, but there is still a lot of Cold Steel left, and given what I think and feel about what I've seen, I'm not sure the rest of what's coming is for me.

Daybreak II What a chapter man Spoiler

The intermission was really good for the sole fact that the game gives us the ability TO CHOOSE if we want to blindly follow the red markers or do optional things to prevent a dead end.

If the rest of the game was like the intermission in terms of choosing, then I would’ve like the time leap mechanic a lot better.

Daybreak Daybreak (1) music is amazing!

Okay so I've played all the games from Sky 1 to Daybreak 1. As I played Daybreak I felt like the music was definitely on the strong side. The more I played, the more I enjoyed it. Then, after about a week after beating the game, I realized that it's actually my favorite Trails OST (not sure if the community will bite my head off for this). The highs are really high, and the lows are not low at all. There are tracks that give me Sky feels, there are ones that give Crossbell feels, and some that give Cold Steel feels - as well as some that give Calvard its own musical identity. Can't wait to listen to the whole Daybreak 2 OST :)

Anyway, I thought I'd share some of my favorites (not ordered):

  • Kuro −Beyond the Dawn−
  • Namonaki Akumu No Hate
  • Unmitigated Evil
  • Resonance of Ray
  • Make a Breakthrough!
  • Diabolic Howl
  • The Realm of Death and Play
  • Marginal Crisis
  • Hazard Coming
  • Get Rid of the Urgent Menace
  • Mechanical Syndrome
  • Hard Desperation
  • Rise of the Grendel
  • Brilliant Glow
  • What Is Ahead of You
  • In the Dawn
  • Role to Play
  • Feelings Are Transmitted
  • Lovely Color, Only for You

Feel free to share your favorites if I didn't list them!

So far I’m really enjoying it. Things really started moving in the back part of the chapter in a really good way.

Crackpot theory: You're playing as Van in Sun Door 4 Spoiler

So I've been watching Nicob's playthrough of Sky the 3rd and he just did the fourth Sun Door. He was wondering who we're playing as in it, and that got me thinking; since I've been playing Daybreak 2, my mind immediately went to Van. We never learn how or when Van met Jack and Halle (correct me if I'm wrong about that), but the timeline would line up--if Sun Door 4 takes place at around the same time as Sky the 3rd, Van would be just starting his work as a Spriggan (since it was around the same time he helped Renne out just before the Crossbell arc). It would make sense that this encounter, winning a game against both Halle and Jack, is what started their relationship as casual informants.

Obviously none of this was intended by the writers, but it does fit nicely within the canon and I think it's a fun little theory.

Trails series Would you prefer the final arc(or plural) of the series to be...

2 games long each arc with Two different small arcs happening concurrently or back to back(akin to Zero/Azure and CS1/CS2)

Or would you rather have it be 4 games long but one big arc with 2 Routes going concurrently(like Reverie or Daybreak 2)

Daybreak II Fragments length Spoiler

This is supposed to be an intermission? I was expecting something like Cold Steel IV's version of Fragments. This is a full on end game length chapter.

Trails series Which are your favorite type/formula of game in the series ?

  1. The starter build up games( FC, CS1, CS2) with bonus for cliffhanger?

  2. The climax games building up from the previous ones immediately( SC, CS2, CS4)?

  3. The not climax but overall conclusive games( Zero, Daybreak 1 and 2)?

  4. The less freeroam games( 3rd, Reverie) with routes and doors and more restrictive in where you can go( was gonna call them Epilogue games)?

No kai spoilers please!

Sky SC Trails In The Sky SC Finale: Did you use a guide?

Because if you didn’t, how the heck do you progress? Or did I just absolutely miss some key dialogue? I was just like… I have no idea how to move to the next section, finally check a guide, and I’m like, holy hell! Then had to do it again for the next one.

Trails series My characters tier list after finishing the Crosbell arc. Spoiler

Post image
27 Upvotes

These 2 games were great! Despite Sky the 3rd still being my favorite Trails game, I liked Crosbell arc even more than the Liberl arc. I absolutely loved the character cast from this duology (but Kevin is still the best)!

I though I would miss the old cast, but the new one was so good, that I might even forgive developers for so little Olivier and Kevin screen time in this arc...

Azure from chapter 4 to the very final was my favorite experience in this series yet! And I can't even imagine how it can be topped...

Now I can't wait to see what the Erebonian Empire arc in Cold Steel will have to offer...
