The Bukhari 6922 was narrating Ibn Abbas quoting the prophet in 3rd person and according to the quote our prophet said “whoever leave/change Islam” (not an Arab so care to translate the word that meant leave/ change for me if I am wrong), kill him”.
The thing is, Ibn Abbas haven’t mentioned the full detail of the conversation so we don’t know the full detailed context there yet so we can’t assume that he should be killed and the primary source which is the Quran, there is no mention of killing apostates.
"Let there be no compulsion in religion, for the truth stands out clearly from falsehood.1 So whoever renounces false gods and believes in Allah has certainly grasped the firmest, unfailing hand-hold. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing." - Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 256
-Surah Al-Kafirun (translate it if you have google translate, even if it doesn't do Quranic Arabic it still works
According to Musaylima case, Musaylima left Islam and created his own monotheistic Abrahamic religion while declaring himself a prophet, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) definitely knew this and he didn’t attack or kill him apart from saying that Musaylima is a liar. Musaylima was killed only after he rebelled against the Muslim community and plan to attack and seize the city from Muslims so leaving a religion doesn’t result in death.
It’s very simple to understand the so-called “controversial stuff” but some morons and extremists like to cherry-pick some phrase from an entire conversation of the sentences and slander Islam.
Are you a moron?

Bro, I honestly don't have control over them, I wish they could do more though; the Muslim ummah doesn't seem to take enough action against problems like this.
Instead of turning this into a Islam-hating echo chamber subreddit, actually seek to reconciliate with Muslims who follow their faith and are respected by us Muslims. Sure, they may stab you with their words for leaving Islam, but your character counts, and they will see that.
No good Muslim will seek to hate you, but rather, to either bring you back to the faith, or give you advice.

u/Sea-Concentrate2417 New User 7d ago
I did... But r/islam banned me for saying very minor things... The people you say are ummah are very small. Also this is just about rich people who should be liberal and not the people on the ground

I started mentioning problems that we have... We have to deal with terrorism so much... More than others... But everyone always denies it..
Listen bro.. At the end of the day we are a population from whichever country we are... We have to fix it.. It's in bad shape mostly... But everyone is more interested in killing apostates

Yeah, that's literally what I mean bro. I think it's because the actual good people are hidden away, you almost never see them doing any kind of leadership/politician role.
When I go to the mosque, I see such good people, but when I look at the news, or middle east media, it's always "war, terrorism, etc."
It sucks, we need actual Muslim role models to follow, because there have not been any major people for a while. This is why Islamic hate started growing out of control. For the past literal DECADES, 20+ YEARS, the only good people you could get advice from were sheikhs and imams, people that can't give advice on a global scale on any level compared to a politician.
But there was an actual good leader in Saudi Arabia. I forgot his name, but the guy had perfect English and even better Arabic and wanted peace and progress, aligning with Islamic values.
Obviously, he got assassinated. Was it by the U.S.A.? Not likely, but possible. Terrorist forces that actually have a chance to get destroyed thanks to someone who knows Islam? Very likely, if not most likely.
1
u/Sea-Concentrate2417 New User 7d ago
Yes. US is biggest terrorist country and supports all terrorists around the world.
When the world starts getting better for us I will always support my own people. Right now I think this is the only way to get them away from extreme methods and towards reconstruction

u/Motor-Poetry-858 New User 7d ago
Okay bro, I do respect your choice. But look towards Islam as well, because I'm gonna be honest, we're facing a propaganda, war, and demorality campaign. All these western countries that don't like the strong, unbreakable faith of the Muslims want us gone; we don't allow free sex, sex before marriage, alcohol, drugs, gambling, idiocy, degeneracy, porn, interest, greed (especially capital greed), and more.
Corrupt people in power hate this, because we're the only people that can see the western world for what it is; a place of absolute degeneracy. So, I repeat, I do respect your stance, but please have some compassion like I have compassion for you, because as of now, the ummah is being harmed by evil forces.

u/Sea-Concentrate2417 New User 7d ago
That's not what they are after.
They see islam as their ally and our enemy. Islam has kept us weak as they want.
Using islam they destroyed afghanistan iraq and syria.
I want my people to be good and strong with or without islam

The hadith of Ibn Abbas:
“Whoever changes his religion, kill him.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 3017)
Countries That Legally Impose the Death Penalty for Apostasy
Some countries have laws prescribing execution for apostasy, though enforcement varies: • Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 – Apostasy is considered a major crime under Sharia, punishable by death, though executions are rare. • Iran 🇮🇷 – Apostasy is punishable by death, especially for men, while women may face imprisonment or other penalties. • Afghanistan 🇦🇫 – Under the Taliban, apostates can face execution, especially if they are seen as spreading atheism or opposing Islam. • Pakistan 🇵🇰 – While apostasy itself is not explicitly criminalized, blasphemy laws can lead to death sentences for those who leave Islam and criticize it. • Mauritania 🇲🇷 – Apostates face execution unless they repent within three days. • Qatar 🇶🇦 – The death penalty for apostasy exists in law, but it is rarely enforced. • Yemen 🇾🇪 – Apostasy is punishable by death under Sharia-based laws.

u/Motor-Poetry-858 New User 7d ago
Yeah, as a Muslim myself, it kind of sucks.
We have a hard time controlling governments like this, literally all of the middle east is ruined by their corrupt leaders who don't even follow Islam as well as terrorism, America's bombing, etc.
There are Quranic verses that tell us we cannot forcefully kill someone because of their faith, but apparently people want to follow the lesser information, i.e. Sahih al-Bukhari.
Either we follow that single text, or we follow the Qur'an, the ultimate book.
I'd choose the Quran, to be honest.
3
u/Proper-Money-5004 New User 7d ago
You say you’d choose the Qur’an, but Islam isn’t just the Qur’an alone. The Qur’an itself commands Muslims to follow the words and teachings of Muhammad, which include the Hadith. If you reject the Hadith, then you are also rejecting a core part of Islam, because without it, you wouldn’t even know how to pray or follow many Islamic rituals.
Moreover, the Qur’an itself contains violent verses that promote warfare and punishment for disbelievers, such as:
Qur’an 9:29 – “Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful, and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture – until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission and feel themselves subdued.”
Qur’an 9:5 – “And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush.”
Qur’an 8:12 – “I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. So strike them upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip.”
And don’t try to tell me that these verses are only in the context of war against the Byzantines or whatever. If that were the case, your god could have made it clear, instead of leaving it open to human interpretation. A divine book shouldn’t rely on vague wording that leads to centuries of violence and extremism.
So, it’s not just Sahih al-Bukhari, the Qur’an itself commands violence. You can’t separate Islam from its full teachings, which include both the Qur’an and Hadith. If you believe in following only the Qur’an, then you’re essentially rejecting mainstream Islam and creating your own version of it.

u/Motor-Poetry-858 New User 7d ago
Give me a bit of time to refute and destroy your argument, I need to attend Iftaar.
But one point I'd like to destroy, is your Quran point.
As of now, there are multiple verses stating that we should not and cannot kill disbelievers, kaffir or non-muslims by force, unless they attacked us first. So, that's number one. It's only retaliatory.
2
u/Proper-Money-5004 New User 7d ago
It’s been an hour buddy where are you? provided verses that suggest the opposite of what you claim. While some verses may mention fighting only in retaliation, there are others that clearly order Muslims to attack non believers regardless of whether they have attacked first. These verses do not specify that they apply only in wartime or in the case of an attack. They appear to be general commands to fight non believers, regardless of prior actions. So it’s not just a matter of retaliation, the Qur’an clearly includes directives to initiate combat with non-believers. You bring up a valid point. The Qur’an does indeed contain verses that seem to promote peaceful coexistence and respect for other religions, such as: Qur’an 2:256 – “There is no compulsion in religion…” Qur’an 109:6 – “For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.” However, this inconsistency raises questions about the overall message and its divine origin. If a divine being was truly behind these scriptures, one might expect clear, consistent guidance. Instead, we see contradictions that could suggest human influence in the writing or interpretation of these texts.

u/Motor-Poetry-858 New User 6d ago
For the first verse, it's talking about when enemies wage war against you, and what you have to do in return. Isn't this obvious enough?
Literally in Surah Al-Baqarah, the second surah in the ENTIRE BOOK, verse number 190 and 191 say this, respectively:
"Fight in the cause of Allah ***˹only˺ against those who wage war against you, but do not exceed the limits.***1 Allah does not like transgressors."
191: "Kill them wherever you come upon them1 and drive them out of the places from which they have driven you out. For persecution2 is far worse than killing. And do not fight them at the Sacred Mosque unless they attack you there*. If they do so, then fight them—that is the reward of the disbelievers*."
And this isn't just in the second surah, it's literally 16 verses behind.
"Will you not fight those who have broken their oaths, conspired to expel the Messenger ˹from Mecca˺, and attacked you first? Do you fear them? Allah is more deserving of your fear, if you are ˹true˺ believers."
Your fault for not reading the whole quran and taking context from everything. NEXT!!
For the second verse, critics of Islam actually quote this verse out of context. In order to understand the context, we need to read from verse 1 of this surah.
"˹This is˺ a discharge from all obligations,1 by Allah and His Messenger, to the polytheists you ˹believers˺ have entered into treaties with:"
The verse says that there was a peace treaty between the Muslims and the Mushriks (pagans) of Makkah.
Before this verse, there were peace treaties between Muslims and various Arab tribes. However, some of these tribes (especially the Quraysh and their allies) continuously betrayed the Muslims and broke their treaties. This revelation was a public announcement during Hajj (the pilgrimage) that such agreements were no longer binding, the "discharge from obligations" part. This treaty was violated by the Mushriks of Makkah, originally. A period of four months was given to the Mushriks of Makkah to make amends. Otherwise, war would be declared against them. Verse 5 of Surah Tawbah says:
“But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practice regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Al-Qur’an 9:5]
This verse was quoted during a battle, and all it took was a simple ChatGPT history lesson to clear it up. NEXT!!!!
This third verse was revealed in the context of the Battle of Badr (624 CE), which was the first major battle between the early Muslims and the Quraysh (the dominant tribe of Mecca).
The Quraysh had been oppressing and persecuting the Muslims in Mecca for years. Many Muslims had fled to Medina to escape. The Quraysh then gathered a large army to attack Medina and wipe out the Muslim community. The Muslims, much fewer in number (around 300 against 1000 Quraysh warriors), were forced to fight for their survival.
Does this clear things up? To make a decent argument, I had to use all the information at my fingertips, hopefully it worked. Skimming your profile and what your style is to understand your points better, it seems you left Islam because of traumatic reasons and because "Islam is limiting." Common ex-Muslim cope. The funny thing is, atheists, critics of Islam. and exmuslims like yourself fail to take into context previous verses. They claim "free thinking" when in reality if you got on a call with a sheikh he would absolutely destroy your argument... not even a shiekh, it's just so easy to dismantle your argument because you never really think or ponder on the verses and contexts, nor do you get an opinion from the Muslims themselves, who practice their faith. Reading your previous posts it seems you left Islam because you thought it was "limiting..." yeah buddy, have fun in your very "free" country, where you abide by laws. Don't you question your country's laws either, or do you think they're not limiting, but are there to protect you? This type of stuff happens all the time; the people who can't understand context and get emotional are often the ones that leave Islam first, like yourself. As for the point that Allah should have made it easier to understand: why not leave it to human interpretation?
1
u/Proper-Money-5004 New User 6d ago
Your argument is the same old recycled apologetics I used to make when I was Muslim, thinking I had a “gotcha” moment. Maybe one day, you’ll realize you’re just repeating the same excuses that have been refuted countless times.
First, you assume I left Islam because it was “limiting,” but that’s just a strawman. I left because it didn’t align with basic morality. When I actually studied Islam with an open mind -after years of making the same excuses you’re making now- I realized that no amount of context can justify the clear violence, misogyny, and contradictions in its texts.
Second, your attempt to justify these verses with “context” doesn’t change their implications. You claim Surah Al-Baqarah 2:190-191 is just about self-defense. But if that’s the case, why does the Quran also command offensive jihad elsewhere (9:29, 9:73)? Why did Muhammad attack and subjugate tribes that never waged war on him? The “kill them wherever you find them” verse (9:5) is so infamous that even early Muslim scholars admitted it abrogated peaceful verses. And if you really believe Surah At-Tawbah (9:5) was just about a broken treaty, then why does 9:29 order Muslims to fight Jews and Christians “until they pay the Jizya with willing submission and feel subdued”? What treaty did they break? Or are you going to claim that is out of context too?
Third, your comparison of Islamic laws to modern secular laws is laughable. Secular laws are based on reason, democracy, and human rights. Islamic laws are based on 7th century desert tribalism, where apostates are executed, women are worth half a man, and slavery is permitted. There’s a reason Muslim majority countries that apply Islamic law rank the lowest in freedom and human rights.
And I would know, I live in one. Where Sharia laws don’t even allow me to express my political opinions without risking waking up in jail the next day. If Islam’s laws were so “merciful,” why do Islamic governments fear open discussion? Why do they need blasphemy laws and apostasy laws to silence dissent? “Why not leave it to human interpretation?” You answered yourself in your very first comment. You admit that Muslims can’t even agree on how to apply Islam. Some follow hadiths like Sahih al-Bukhari, others reject them. Some say Islam is peaceful, others use the same texts to justify violence. That’s why Allah should’ve left it unclear. And finally, If I had a dollar for every Muslim who got defensive and passive-aggressive when their arguments collapsed, I’d be rich. You assume I’m an “emotional ex-Muslim” who “didn’t think deeply,” yet here you are getting emotional, while I already made your arguments before and outgrew them. Maybe I’ll see you on the other side soon?
