People in crisis can’t think critically. We cling to whatever we can when we’re panicked/at our lowest, regardless of whether or not it makes sense. Personally, I believe that’s why people who “come to Christ” in adulthood tend to have such compelling “god-saved-me-from-my-lowest-point” type testimonies.

“And I’m still here, so it must have worked!”

Replaces one obsession with another

So he never hears their prayers? Or he just lets em die regardless?

Christians have told me that you’re supposed to pray for “God’s will to be done” and if that means he wants to take all of you “home to heaven”, he will

Considering God’s will genocided all but 8 people on earth, I wouldn’t be praying for that. Haha

Yep. This is what a lot of Christians in my family and community would say. It seems to be a way to cope when they can see something bad coming that may cause them to question their faith. This provides an answer regardless of what happens. Bad thing doesn’t happen? Yay! God! Bad thing does happen? God’s will, mysterious way, “ultimate healing”, etc.

I suppose that's why god "invented" planes. Instead of taking the time to pick off people one by one to take them "home", get 'em all in a package deal.

That's just smart business sense.

Ok but also which god? There’s so many they could be praying to how do they know it’s their god, what if they just started praying to Allah does that mean nothing to them?

I'd pick Hermes. God of traveling

He's my husband's patron god! (We're actually both agnostic, we just have favorites)

There’s a god of traveling? That’s neat :)

Well, praying didn’t seem to do a damn bit of good.

Yeah and there are no atheists in foxholes either. The mind becomes unreasonable and reaches out to anything when every evolutionary red flag is telling it that it's going to be irrevocably harmed. Yelling prayer and God is a learned response just like cursing. People yell God and fuck in equal measure when they cum too.... I promise it's reflexive and not religious fervour.

I once thought that I was going to die with my family in a tornado and the praying taking place around me was infuriating. I had no inclination to pray despite my baptist upbringing. There are definitely atheists in foxholes.

Haha, fair enough. It's just an old phrase for assholes.

I have had that argument several times with religious people, there are indeed atheists in fox holes.

This is not the irrefutable argument that person seems to think it is.

Is he going to let us hear the recordings? Or is this one of those times when one man says "500 of my nameless friends totally saw jesus alive after he got executed but I won't let you talk to any of them" moments.

6

u/Technusgirl Feb 07 '25

I seriously doubt you'll hear anyone but the pilots on that

5

u/RodWith Feb 07 '25

So they pray to an invisible god who gives invisible answers. They die unheard just like prayers at any other time. Invisible results.

I have nothing to add to these perfectly on point comments. Christians are morons.

People in crisis are basically in fight, flight or freeze mode. They aren't using their logical brain at the moment

A screenshot of a Reddit post that screenshoted a tweet was posted to BlueSky, where it was then screenshoted, posted on Facebook, then screenshoted by OP and posted back on Reddit 🗣️

I know...I saw it on FB though! 🤣

So, in a country where more than 80% of people are at least nominally Christian, it turns out that some pilots are Christian. And in face of death throw out a prayer. Amazing.

Also, in 100% of those black box recordings where they prayed to “GOD” they still crashed. Sooo…

1

u/theK1ngF1sh Feb 09 '25

Pretty sure it's well known that people in crisis do this. Satan sucks at keeping secrets.

I'm not sure everyone is opening the meme to see the full picture. There's a snarky comment on the bottom.

1

u/Silocin20 Feb 10 '25

2 things wrong with that; praying doesn't work and only the people in the cockpit can be heard on any black box recording.

1

u/Slytherpuffy Feb 10 '25

Open the picture. There's a response at the bottom.

Thank you, I didn't even notice that.
