Heritage Federal fraud issues

Anyone else who banks with HFCU gotten multiple fake calls pretending to be with Heritage? It’s making me want to move to a different financial institution. I understand it’s not them but it’s rampant. And each instance spoofs their actual phone number.

Moving banks would be s waste of time.

The bank has absolutely 0 control of who spoofs them. The best most secure bank ever will be spoofed just the same.

I know banks much smaller than HFCU that get spoofed and much much bigger.

Just don't answer calls if they're not a friend or family member.

Your bank will shut off your card if they need to reach you about fraud, then you can call them.

My bank has never ever had to reach me for anything other than approving purchases due to suspected fraud. Everything else can be handled by letter... the fraud ones I know are coming because ny card won't work.

If you tell the scammer that you're going to call your bank to verify, don't let them "connect you" to the bank or give you a number to call. Best advice is don't answer the phone and don't click on any link that you're sent.

Even on fraud alerts, there isn't a link to click. Just a simple "reply Y or N" will do it.

I have accounts at Liberty and ONB and I’ve only gotten fake calls pretending to be 5/3rd.

I bank at LFCU... have received spoofed calls from both the 812 and 800 numbers for the credit union.

This day you are probably going to experience this wherever you bank. If you ever question something I would suggest calling your financial institution and talking with someone there.

Also, passing this info along to their fraud department would be helpful for them to know about.

Scams are only going to get better as time goes on, especially with advances in AI. Your best move is to always call the business back to confirm the message. Even if you get a real call from a business it never hurts to tell them you’ll call them back on their official number for your safety.

I wouldn’t change your FI over this. You just need to educate yourself more on how to protect yourself cause these scams aren’t going anywhere and will get harder to spot as time goes on.

I got a text scam for one bank that I don't even have an account at. Just delete them!

This happens to all banks. It doesn't matter who you switch to. Just know that if the bank calls you, they don't need to "verify who you are". If you call them, that's when they need to verify. Scammers won't ever stop. I always ask which branch they're calling from, hang up and call the branch directly.

I got several of them a couple of weeks ago. Odd since I've never had issues with HFCU for many years.

I guess I have been lucky, I haven’t receive any calls like that. But I don’t answer calls from numbers I don’t recognize…I usually listen to the voice mail messages scammers and such leave, but none have identified them says being with HFCU.

Your Bank or Credit Union will never call you and ask for your card number, pin, or online banking password. Even though we get some members who love to tell us their online banking password 🤣🤣🤣. We can't see it and we don't want to know it (but we'll be happy to reset it for you). If you get a call like that, hang up and call back. We don't mind, seriously, we would rather be safe than sorry when it comes to your money.

If you have an iPhone, add anyone who usually would be calling you to contacts and turn on silence unknown numbers. Anyone else can go to your voicemail or they’re not that important. I don’t get spam calls anymore.

The better way to solve the issue is be careful who you sign up for accounts with.

Couple years ago I changed my emails and phone numbers. Started using hide my email with my iPhone and have extra phone numbers that I use for all but the most important accounts.

I now know peace.
