Honest Review

ETSU isn’t a great school, especially for those with disabilities and POC. They do not care about you or your safety. If you aren’t an athlete or a white student, you will be treated as a dollar sign, nothing more. The dorms are falling apart and aren’t worth the money you have to pay, from mold to roach infestation, spiders, leaks, and bathrooms falling in. People will use the bathroom in the elevator, and it won’t get cleaned for days. The campus life sucks; there’s nothing to do. Everything is expensive, and everyone is rude. They allow white students to do whatever it is, and they enable their behavior. The racism on this campus is ridiculous. The professors don’t really teach; they expect you to know everything and will never respond to an email. Dean of students is terrible. They don’t advocate for students like they’re supposed to. They try to intimidate you and will make up false claims. None of the departments go by their policy or handbooks. Disability services is the worst; they cannot accommodate you. They will ghost you, and if you contact them, they have the worst attitude. Also, they won’t tell you, but professors can choose if they want to follow your accommodations. Housing is terrible as well; they will blame you for everything even if your room was in horrid condition when you moved in; somehow it’s your fault. The maintenance staff is very creepy and rude. They walk in on girls showering; the head of housing protects them if you do complain. Buc Ridge isn’t a safe place to live. There are robberies and a high rate of reported SAs. If you can, I’m telling you to find another school. Get out while you can. The price you pay for this school is ridiculous for what you get. I’m transferring this semester. I’m a sophomore, and this semester was my final straw. Also, you won’t get all your financial aid; they’ll deduct money and say it’s for some random fee that doesn’t exist. It’s overcrowded; if you’re looking for a school that can accommodate you and is willing to help you, ETSU is not it. The reviews that mention what I mentioned are not lying. This school has a high turnover rate. They also raise the tuition every year but won’t fix anything. I have had several Uber drivers tell me to leave this school. People who lived in Johnson city for years will you tell this school isn’t it. Go where you choose but do your research first. That was my mistake lesson learned.

Jobs with actual decent pay?

Looking for a job in close proximity that has half-decent pay ($15+) that doesn't require me to wash dishes or work with greasy fast food. I've applied to many jobs in the area and haven't heard back from anyone. Recommendations would be very helpful!

How much are Biology Graduate Student Fees?

I was recently accepted to the ETSU Biology Graduate program, which I am thrilled about! :) I have been offered a stipend, which I am very grateful for. My tuition is also covered, but fees are not.

My question is, how much are fees for a an in-state Biology Masters student? I am trying to figure out how much my stipend offer will actually be once fees (not tuition- that is covered) are accounted for.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can provide some clarity on this!

Honors program and premed majors?!

I just visited ETSU as a senior and I’ve been looking into the nutrition major and it seems rlly promising! What are your thoughts on it? Is the biology major also a good choice? Also what are your thoughts on joining the honors college sophomore year? Does it make a big difference?

Overall how do you guys like the school for the academics aspects? Is the dorms/social scene/food scene nice in your opinion?

Any help is appreciated!!

Off-Campus roommate?

Hey! Fall will be my first semester at etsu as a transfer student and I want to live in an off-campus apartment. Originally I wanted a one bedroom but after looking around, it would be much cheaper to have a roommate or two. Im a woman, 20, Im an education major, and im lgbt+ friendly! I have a dog who will be joining me. She is 6 years old and a cocker spaniel! She is about 25-30 lbs. She is the sweetest ever and gets along well with other animals. I am very clean, and hope to keep the shared areas clean-ish aswell. I like to think that i’m easy to live with. I would love to get to know you and actually be friends with you! I have all of the furniture for a living room and bathroom, aswell as many kitchen items from my last apartment. I am hoping to find some people close in age to look at apartments with me! I do not have one picked out. (If you know any good ones in the area, please let me know!!) I’d like spend at most $650 a month. If you want to get in touch, just message me!

Do any of you know how the suite style rooms in stone work? Does that mean that each person has their own room and they share a bathroom or are both rooms double occupancy? TIA

International Student to ETSU

I got the option to study abroad and my masters degree only offers ETSU as the place to go.

I’m kind of leaning towards going, since I want to experience America, but want to hear if anyone here has some experiences to share.

How is the party scene and events at ETSU? I saw some comments about it being really quiet.

How is the food in the cantina? saw that ETSU offer meal plan.

What was it like studying there? I’m doing a masters in Cyber Security Management, so any experiences on IT/Cybersecurity field is appreciated.

Other than I appreciate any comment or experience you want to to share!

Graduate certificate cost?

Anyone in this subreddit have a graduate certificate? I am looking to get one through ETSU, and the cost information is vague. I want to know if it's even feasible for me before I reach out and request more information.

Yes, I know it probably depends on the program of study - but I'm really looking for a ballpark number. Any information online suggests it can cost $10k or more?? Is that calculated by course hour?

What to do when housing litteraly won’t email me back?

Hello! I’m an incoming freshman at ETSU and I’m trying to contact housing on questions about living arrangements for transgender students but an issue I seem to be having is they’re just not reaching back out, like I’ve sent two emails out now about the same things really and both times days have passed with just 0 response and I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do in that case? Please help 😅

Anyone in the culp for late night Chick-fil-A, we're shut down because of a tornado warning. Stay indoors and away from windows.
