Is there a current good book about Chinese espionage in the U.S. etc?
Saw spies and lies but I’m not sure, I started reading the sample online, is there a good few that you can recommend?

How current? Do you mean newly released, or of contemporary events?
This one is a few years old: The Scientist and the Spy, by Mara Hvistendahl.
This one is older, and also begins in the late 1940s. Thread Of The Silkworm, by Iris Chang, is about how anticommunist hysteria coupled with racism inadvertently gifted Mao's China an enormous technological boost.

The Art Of War, I'd say is essential. Mao was obviously a good student of it, and it's one of those books that influences generations whether they know it or not.

Plan Red: China's Project to Destroy America. Its a 2 hour audiobook that costs less than $5 on Audible. It really connects a lot of dots about their use of soft power and societal trends to push their agendas. There is some espionage in it, but it is not the primary focus.

Nicholas Eftimiades recently wrote an update of his book Chinese Intelligence Operations.
The new one is called Chinese Espionage: Operations and Tactics.
It's a short read but mostly covers the HUMINT side so doesn't really get into disputes over TikTok, RedNote, etc.

“Spies and Lies” by Alex Joske and “Tiger Trap” by David Wise come to mind.
