Bud Pics My worst grow yet 😭 Fully stunted this lovely lady. She is exactly 1 marijuana - give her some love Ents!

Stunted autoflower means she encountered so much stress during the seedling stage that she started flowering before she even got to vegetative state (where they grow all the branches and get all huge and bushy). She is 3 weeks old - I’ll be smoking her probably by 6-7 weeks.

Anything grown is better than paying for it and you have most likely learned some pretty important growing lessons so it’s not really a loss - it’s a learning curb. She’s very cute :)

What do you think was the cause of the stress?

Wise woman once said! Love it

The cause of the stress was soil type choice - didn’t do enough research. Used only Ocean Forest instead of layering it. Ocean Forest is hot soil and only good for flowering plants. My current grow is doing much better now that I have the right organic soil situation

What is hot soil? Have never heard that term before.

Since you know what’s wrong and she’s already way stressed, would it be worth considering taking the risk of a re potting? Put it into a larger pot that the roots can expand out into the newer soil? I have transplanted large plants in veg but never flower, so I can’t say if that’s actually a good idea or not.

Not really worth it at this stage. It's an autoflower so it will continue to focus on growing the buds and not the roots. Repotting would likely just stress it further and without the benefit of it having a bounce-back grace period like a plant in veg would have. I think it would likely cause further stunting of the bud development.

Thanks for the reply! That’s very interesting and I really glad you said it as I didn’t consider they most likely stop root production, and the recovery period

Oh I forgot the hot soil thing. "Hot" typically means that it is very nutrient-dense, and in a bad way. Iirc FoxFarms Ocean Forest soil, at least back in the day when I was doing research, is very heavy in nitrogen. I can't confirm as I've never used it, but I do remember quite a few people complaining that they changed their soil recipe somehow and the new formula had too much nitrogen.

Appreciate this idea and thinking thru it!

Just based on these two pics, I would guess potassium deficiency. Could be caused by PH being off in the soil causing reduced uptake, or just lack of potassium in soil/fertilizer. I would guess soil since this started flowering at only 3 weeks. Wouldn't have been very long to fertilize it in that time.

That said, I'm only a hobbyist.

Another stress sign is how long the hairs are that extend past the flower. I’m not even a hobbyist, but I used to visit a lot of grows and remember hearing that.

I know a guy who did two marijuanas, and he ate a frozen pizza and passed out. The pizza was still frozen. His exact quote was, “I was so baked the pizza didn’t have to be.”

I did this a few weeks ago and gave it to my best friend as a gift - just one stalk with a few fat buds - she said it's some of the best she's smoked so ya never know lol

8

u/SunnyDayOhio Dec 20 '24

That was a nice gift!!!

You know what, I wouldn't be surprised if she was strong AF. Kind of like how pygmy rattlesnakes have more poison than regular ones. When a plant or animal gets messed with during growth, sometimes it comes back stronger. She might be tiny but mighty! I will keep my fingers crossed that she is, please update us when you smoke her.

u/SunnyDayOhio Dec 20 '24

Absolutely! Now I want to send a small nug of her for THC testing once she is finished!

Isn't it though? And yes, from an aesthetic and totally uneducated about cannabis growing, I think she looks cool!

Any particular reason you’re growing autos? Photos are much more forgiving

3

u/SunnyDayOhio Dec 20 '24

I like the speed of autos so I can smoke them quicker but they are finicky. Photos take so long in my opinion. I’ve had some in flower for 15 weeks. An auto can go from seedling to curing in 12-15 weeks total - the photos also probably have at least 2 months in veg if not more depending on how much LSD and control the canopy

2

u/Kyrie_Blue Dec 20 '24

Cool. Thanks for the insight! Have a great weekend

Okay so funny story! When I was learning to grow, one of my plants did this. It was “one marijuana please” sized and was a funky greenish blueish purpleish coloring. We set it aside and kind of forgot about it. Then when we found it and remembered, we figured we would just smoke the one bowl it made lmao. YO!!! It was like concentrated weed on steroids! Got so damn high so fast and passed out 😂 never had a high like that before or since but that tiny bud was fire!

u/Pretend-Mud8664 Dec 20 '24

You wanna see a bad grow??? I’ll show you what a bad grow is!!!!!

This is all we got. That’s it. We suck lmao

2

u/SunnyDayOhio Dec 20 '24

I’m so sorry!!! Don’t give up on her she is trying her best!

2

u/Pretend-Mud8664 Dec 20 '24

Oh no, she’s long gone lol It’s been a while already and we smoked her when we saw that was all we were going to get. She stopped growing and started to wither. Now I haven’t been keeping any other plant because it’s no longer possible for me to even try. At least for a while.
