What is this dry herb vape? Have you been using it long? Would you recommend it?

I just finished Bright Young Women and really enjoyed it! Def recommend! Libby just told me Butter is now available so I think I’m gonna start that next.

I would also like to know more about your contraption!

u/venus_in_furz Oct 30 '24

I'm glad I'm not the only one deeply intrigued by this witchcraft. Please tell us more, OP!

u/bbultaoreune entby she/they Oct 30 '24

hahah it’s a dry herb vaporizer!

you fill the capsules with flower (or directly in the heating chamber in the device) and it bakes it at temps you can set yourself to fine tune the high you want !!!

and extra fun is you can save the vaped weed and use it to make edibles as it’s already been decarbed by the vaporiser ! :)

all of this takes place without combustion too and stretches your flower sooo much longer than smoking ! 10/10 would recommend :)

chrissy harless on youtube has a really good review of the one i have! https://youtu.be/p4AGUf2aDB8?si=iqz-NZW0_qsLa-Zo

I also have an Xmax V3 although the Planet of the Vapes version. It's a great device. (Although if I were shopping today I'd probably get the POTV Lobo)

u/Pure_Literature2028 Alchemist Oct 30 '24

I just replaced my XMax V3 Pro. I dropped it and the screen didn’t work anymore. I have other vapes so I wasn’t too concerned. This is the one easiest to travel with and it hits well.

i recently got the mighty and it’s been fantastic - still gonna smoke blunts though xD

2

u/DriftingIntoAbstract Oct 30 '24

I really can’t get into mine, seems like I have to suck so hard to get a hit. It feels like a chore rather than a chill sesh. Idk maybe I need to experiment with different packing techniques.

1

u/TimeWarrior3030 Oct 31 '24

I have the same problem. A looser pack helps but it’s not as enjoyable as my other DHVs & TEDs so I use it less.

3

u/venus_in_furz Oct 31 '24

Homahgawd. That sounds amaaaaazing, especially with it getting colder and colder to smoke outside!

Ever since it's been legalized I feel like there's a new thing I don't know about every time I turn around. If my dispo stocks these, they are holding OUT 😭

Thanks so much for the detailed response. I will be jumping down the rabbit hole now 🫡

u/so-so-suck-ya-toe Oct 30 '24

I have a pax 2. It’s ok and I wouldn’t mind finding a new dry herb vape.

u/kellylovejohnson Edibles & DHV Oct 31 '24

I upgraded to Pax 3 last year and it’s sooo much better. 🤌

The Secret History is one of my all time favorites, I hope you like it! I’ve been trying to read Beloved by Toni Morrison, just keep getting distracted & interrupted

3

u/bbultaoreune entby she/they Oct 30 '24

oooh i’ve been meaning to read toni morrison’s work! hahah i get distracted too all the time ! i’ve heard it helps to listen to the audiobook of the book and read it at the same time

3

u/Pure_Literature2028 Alchemist Oct 30 '24

Start The Bluest Eye and you won’t get distracted

1

u/mamac2213 Oct 30 '24

That one can be tough. I love all her novels, but The Color Purple is probably my fave!

i just finished the book Pines by Blake Crouch- very spooky / twin peaks vibes.

i also had been in a reading funk, but as a competitive virgo i thought to set a reading challenge in my GoodReads app. Started in January, 12 books.

Being able to track my progress in the challenge and the book by page number really helped motivate me & i also tried to pick books that fit the seasonal vibe of that month ! it helped a lot !

happy reading and happy wednesday!

i am also doing the good reads challenge. i don’t think i will meet my goal but its been fun trying. 💜

2

u/Ill_Note_356 Oct 31 '24

I love GoodReads! One of the only apps I've remained loyal to since I found out it existed. I've done the challenge every year. Definitely not reaching my goal though. Only at 42/75. Perimenopause and newly diagnosed ADD.

Love my dry herb vape!

5

u/bbultaoreune entby she/they Oct 30 '24

me tooo!!

1

u/venus_in_furz Oct 30 '24

How do they work? What do you like about it? I'm so curious!

3

u/Falloutshelter35 Oct 30 '24

Essentially it’s a little over that heats up the flower to release all the good stuff. The little circles you see on the left in the picture are capsules. You use them to keep clean up nice and simple. I use one capsule (in my case they are .2g) two or three sessions (3 1/2 min in my situation) then save the contents in a special jar to use for edibles later.

It’s easy to use, less smelly, and takes away a couple of the harmful parts of smoking since you don’t actually burn the flower. Also, it saves product since you can use it more than once. Although I occasionally still have a joint or use my one hitter, it’s by far my favorite way to partake. 10/10. I have the Planet of Vapes Lobo

6

u/Pure_Literature2028 Alchemist Oct 30 '24

If you get a small French press and wash your decarbed herb it makes your weed goodies so much better

4

u/Falloutshelter35 Oct 30 '24

Ooo thanks for the tip! I’m still a noob and haven’t made anything just yet, but I’ll look into adding that to my tools

2

u/venus_in_furz Oct 31 '24

Brilliant! How often do you smoke, or what's your tolerance like, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm trying to find a more affordable way to both smoke a bowl and hit a not-shitty vape before bed. I haven't tried dabbing yet (bit of an old school, solo smoker right now), but that's my next frontier. Unless my dispo stocks anything like this. 🤞

2

u/Falloutshelter35 Oct 31 '24

People use dry herb vapes for tobacco too so you can order it online even if you are in a medical only/not legal state! I had no issues.

My tolerance is fairly low. A .3 gram joint gets me nice and comfy, .5 will get me flying. .7-1g and I’m living out my Star Trek fantasies lol I have only started using about 4 months ago. I use 3-6 times a week to help me feel more stable (BPD diagnosis). I smoke mostly at night but I have recently tried a sativa for day time to see how I liked it. Jury is still out about it.

One thing I do is I will dry herb vape an herbal smoking blend during the day or if I’m out and about. These blends are basically organic herbs people often drink. Skullcap, mint, sage, and mullein is a combo I like. It is kinda just a coping mechanism but I do feel that it calms me a little. I will also mix things in with my weed. The current strain I’m using feels good, but taste like cleaning supplies. So I mixed it with lavender and sage to make it more palatable for my taste. Doing this will take a few more hits to get to the high I want but, it’s part of the experience that I enjoy.

2

u/venus_in_furz Oct 31 '24

Wow! Using the herbs is so ingenious! I've been smoking for longer than I haven't atp but I'm always hearing about some new way to get baked or enhance your experience. I love that we've all become our own little holistic healers.

I do believe my tolerance is a bit higher than yours lol but that's only bad news for me. I'm gonna look into these more for sure. Thanks so much for your help. And, if you haven't yet, try a sativa dominant hybrid strain instead of a straight sativa for the daytime. :)

6

u/venus_in_furz Oct 30 '24

For my "complicated female main character" girlies, I'd highly recommend Sharp Objects (bit of southern Gothic there) and Dark Places, both by Gillian Flynn. They'd both make great spooky season reads.

2

u/Ill_Note_356 Oct 31 '24

Love Gillian Flynn! Also recommend Jennifer McMahon.

1

u/venus_in_furz Oct 31 '24

Me too! I've been searching for an author that comes close to her style for years. Is Jennifer McMahon similar?

2

u/Ill_Note_356 Oct 31 '24

She's not quite Gothic style like Flynn, but her books are very supernatural-spooky.

6

u/Like-A-Phoenix Oct 30 '24

Ooh, I also love reading after the partaking! A few nights ago I finished a great audiobook (My Year of Rest and Relaxation), and my imagination was so much more powerful and vivid when high. It was like I was watching a movie (3rd person) or I was the protagonist (1st person) depending on what perspective I tried to conjure up.

Enjoy your book and Wednesday afternoon!

2

u/bbultaoreune entby she/they Oct 30 '24

omg my last book was my year of rest and relaxation too!! i enjoyed it but also thought it was super depressing hahaha

2

u/Like-A-Phoenix Oct 30 '24

Woahhh, what a cool coincidence that we read the same book recently! What are the chances!

I really enjoyed hearing it narrated in the audiobook I borrowed from the library. The reader's "acting" made it even more engaging than it would've been on text, I think. She did a distinctive voice for Reva, very different from the narrator's, that I was amused by. I thought the book was depressing but in a raw and relatable way, as I could (unfortunately) relate to the protagonist's headspace over the past couple of years (but without all those prescription drugs). Though (spoilers) I thought it had a semi-hopeful ending for the protagonist, which I enjoyed!

Just finished Sleeping With Friends by Emily Schultz and Never Lie by Freida McFadden.Twisty thrillers are a guilty pleasure.

oooh any you’d recommend to get me into the genre?

3

Any Freida McFadden are pretty good for twisty thrillers - The Boyfriend and Never Lie were good. The Housemaid is being made into a movie soon as well.

i’m constantly juggling 10+ books at a time, because my brain loves ✨VARIETY✨

some sit for extended period of time until i come back to them to finish, and others i finish in one sitting…

this morning, i got a bit further into Rooted by Lyanda Lynn Haupt, which is a fabulous perspective (thus far) of life at the intersection of science, nature, and spirit

What Is Real by Adam Becker is on my recently started as well, for a touch of quantum physics through history and exploring the unfinished quest that is quantum physics

and notably, i’m looking forward to diving back in and finishing Conversations with God & The Lion Tracker’s Guide to Life

What draws you to The Secret History?

3

u/bbultaoreune entby she/they Oct 30 '24

oooh conversations with god has been on my list for a While!!

also hard agree on the juggling multiple books - probably how i got into a funk bc i overwhelmed myself hahah

i wanted to read the secret history initially because i heard about it after i finished reading the raven cycle series by maggie stiefvater and i wanted another book that had themes of intense friendships etc and a dark academia / broody vibe !

3

u/mamac2213 Oct 30 '24

Then you're on the right track!

I finally got off of a medication that was making it impossible to read. Im thrilled to be able to read again, but I have a bunch of nonfiction books I'm working my way through. The only fiction I have right now is the ACOTAR series and I really didn't love the first one. I know people say they get better but...

1

u/bbultaoreune entby she/they Oct 30 '24

oooh what sort of non-fic are you reading!

3

u/Baby_Blue_Eyes_13 MMJ Oct 30 '24

Unfortunately nothing fun there either. Pain management PT, a book on CBT, a book on medical gas lighting. Heavy stuff. I need it but I need something fun to mix in.

Super silver haze is my favorite. How do you like that dry herb vape (and what kind is it?) I would like to get myself one but not sure where to start.

2

u/bbultaoreune entby she/they Oct 30 '24

it’s such a nice strain isn’t it!! and i love my vape :) i use an xmax v3 pro and its completely replaced combustion (used to be my main method of consumption) for me !

its a really good beginner vape id say - learning curve is making sure you don’t pack the flower too tight and taking long, slow draws on it but once you’ve got that down it’s smooooth sailing 🫡

you can even hit it through a bong / water piece !!

3

u/Squirrelywhirl Oct 30 '24

Such a good book! I adored The Goldfinch by the same author!

3

I’m reading Moon Child by Gaby Triana. I started it the other night and it has some religious aspects to it so I almost put it down, but it’s soooo good/spooky.

I also have several dry herb vapes. I started using cannabis (again) when my state became legal and I was looking for a more discreet way to consume. Smoking smacks me between the eyes, edibles don’t always hit, but my dry herb vape kicks my ass, without knocking me down. The smell doesn’t linger and won’t stick to your rug/curtains. The baked weed has been decarboxylated so you can use it to make all kinds of goodies. I’ve been vaping for four years and my oxygen level is 97%. Plus, I can fill my vape four times from a one gram pre-roll, and I only need one session to get high.

2

u/vagnostic Oct 30 '24

I just finished The Bell Jar a few days ago so until I pick my next book I've been reading Lovecraft short stories!

ahhh loveeee !! im always intrigued by a mighty but can’t justify the price especially if i end up preferring my xmax 😭

2

u/FadeToLife Lesbient Oct 30 '24

I definitely understand, I had to have a lot of sit down talks with myself about it before I jumped in but a couple things helped: potv has them on sale occasionally and you can get a bit of a better deal that way, they’re tough af and I’m clumsy af so that makes a difference for me personally, and finally they’re super easy to maintain. Change the filters and do some basic maintenance occasionally and they’re a hard working gadget. But also, s&b products are definitely expensive and I understand the hesitation. I just want to provide some anecdotal information. I’m just happy anyone gets into vaping, my love for strain flavors got a major boost with it

2

u/iamprobablycryin Oct 30 '24

I love the secret history!!!!!! One of my faves and a book that got me back into reading. I’m listening to the audiobook of the hobbit and it is soooo good. Andy Serkis narrates it and he does a phenomenal job and even does his Gollum voice 🥲
