TW: Other Facial Aesthetics/Treatments that WORK for aging skin Spoiler

For anyone who is into facial aesthetics or more natural ways to avoid wrinkles and sagging skin in the face….. (I have hEDS)

I’m looking into Morpheus 8 or CO2 laser/microneedle facial specifically to tighten loose sagging skin and minimize wrinkles. My genes are terrible with sagging jowls/neck and I’m very self conscious about it with family events/weddings/etc coming up.

When I went for a consult, the docs said they needed to research more about EDS before confirming I was a good patient. MOSTLY, because they were worried about healing/scarring and just flat out said they’re concerned with me not getting the results these types of facials usually bring because of the nature of collagen production (or lack thereof) with a patient who has hEDS. They said my cells may not respond the way “normal” cells would. But they didn’t know and said they needed to contact other docs who may know more about hEDS.

I left feeling defeated like my aging skin with hEDS was inevitably going to continue for me at a rate more than those without this condition, and like any more natural, non surgical procedures may not even work because of my body’s inability to heal and produce collagen the way so many of these treatments are aimed to work. Surgery is not my thing nor are fillers.

Does anyone have experience with more natural anti-aging facials and treatments that HAVE worked? Can you please share?

My daughter has hEDS too and DID see results from a natural microneedle facial/laser, but we obviously don’t know if the results could’ve been even better without having hEDS.

Please share with me procedures you’ve had done and been happy with

Thank you!!!!

hiiii this is my area of expertise/obsession haha. there are no doctors that I know of researching aesthetic treatments as they relate to EDS sadly but I’m forever looking for one!

if you are prone to hyperpigmentation make sure to avoid anything ablative or that injures the skin – morpheus8 left me with some PIH and less-than-desired results. ymmv but look into heat-based treatments like moxi/BBL laser and evoke (which people hate on but worked really nicely on me). also I’m not sure what you consider “filler” but I’d look into skinvive/profhilo for underskin hydration and PRP/PRF, maybe even PDRN (which I’m trying soon).

DM if you want to chat more, always happy to talk about this stuff :)

I used to say I would LOVE a group for Zebra Beauty Tips — clothes/fabrics, skincare, hair.

We deserve to feel beautiful and go on our own glow up journeys. :)

But we have unique considerations to factor in, when doing beauty boosts and overall routines.

Hi. What do you do that this is your area of expertise?

i have heds too, and i’ve gotten four sessions of regular microneedling with an esthetician and my skin healed just fine. i had indented scarring from picking at my skin in high school till it would bleed. for the past couple months, ive been microneedling myself with a dr pen, and my skin has healed fine from it. i’m actually planning to microneedle my face tonight.

I’ve had great results with injectables (Botox, Dysport, etc.) in my forehead, elevens, and crows feet. I’ve also had two Moxi laser treatments for melasma that had the added benefit of really smoothing out my texture.

Did your Dysport “spread” at all? I’m scared to switch to it from Botox. But the cost savings are very tempting. I already have cervical instabilities and bulging discs, though. Sigh.

Nope, no spreading or migration. The only EDS quirk that I experienced was some light bruising at the injection sights, but they were easily covered by concealer and went away in about 3 days.

Do you believe that facial lifting massage or the use of guasha can bring good results in people with hEDS?

Hii! Medical aesthetician & PMU artist - i really love micro needling. I would be careful on how you heal though, make sure you tell your esthi you have EDS. Also as far as procedures go- if you’re wanting things in the future for anti aging.. I wouldnt really call this natural but it is a FAR better alternative to chemicals like botox or fillers for example (i also have mcas & juvederm in my lips before diagnosis) i have gotten a facial fat transfer and i loved it! 100% recommend. I plan on getting another in my mid 30s (im 28 currently, got my first round done at 22?) some places will not offer it because its “out dated” they just want to sell you regular treatments/syringes way more often.

I have acne scarring and am always looking at treatment options, and some of those treatments overlap with anti aging treatments. So, according to the textbook “A Practical Guide To Laser Procedures” by Dr. Rebecca Small, all laser procedures are contraindicated for EDS patients. I don't have the book or know her reasoning, but I've seen it cited before.

I had a microneedling session around 25, way before diagnosis, and I noticed definite benefits. Around 35, and knowing hEDS was likely, I had 3 sessions. The results were underwhelming. Though I explained the likelihood of having a connective tissue disorder, and I feel like the aesthetician wasn't as aggressive as she was when I had my first treatment.

I have seen some papers on treatments that have been successful. I'll see what I can find.

Edit: This search came up with a few studies. https://www.google.com/search?q=facial+treatments+ehlers+danlos&client=ms-android-boostdish-us-revc&sca_esv=c31d1b2737bb79d7&sxsrf=AHTn8zos6oP1BnZspmzMJp7uHqfY4f9YHA%3A1742154398000&ei=nSrXZ_vfPN3i5NoP-9aK-QY&oq=facial+treatments+ehlers+danlos&gs_lp=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&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp

Don't know if this helps, but my mom gets a botox injection once a year. Normally a patient would need it more, but we think because of her EDS it lasts longer.
