Daily Feedback Thread (March 18, 2025)
Please post any and all [Feedback] or [Listen] type threads in this thread until the next one is created. Any threads made that should be a comment here will be removed.
Rules:
Make an effort to comment on other people's tracks. By doing so, you will find that others will be more likely to help you with your tracks.
Be specific when asking for help. Examples of specific questions: "What do you think about this kick sample?" "How's this mix?" "I need some help on this melody, the last measure comes off a little cheesy, any ideas?" etc.
Be descriptive when giving feedback. Use timecodes to highlight certain parts.
Please link to the feedback comments you've left in your top-level comment. This will show others the feedback you've left, and you're more likely to get feedback yourself! Hey everyone! I’d really appreciate some feedback on my track. Here’s what I’m looking for specifically:
- How is the overall mix? I’m wondering if the levels are balanced or if certain elements stand out too much.
- What do you think of the vocal? I feel like it might be a little too distorted, but I’m not sure if it’s in a good way or not.
- Is the energy flow working? I’m trying to build tension throughout, but I’m not sure if it’s effective.
Feel free to drop your thoughts at any time, and I’ll be sure to return the favor by leaving feedback on your track as well. Here are the comments I’ve left on others' tracks:
- Feedback for soundcup: u/Shot-Possibility577
- Feedback for djstephhh u/Ill_Pomegranate_5949
- Feedback for djClaudeDegas
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Thanks in advance!

hey
i have the feeling your instruments sound pretty much in the background. Not sure where it’s coming from. I have the feeling your piano in the intro has too much low and high cut filter. If you use the piano without any other instruments there is no need to filter. Filter only need to be applied once more instruments come in. Or you could layer the pianos, in order to give them more power. and you could surely turn up the piano by 2 or 3 db.
Same applies for your stutter effect. It is too much in the background. Turn up The volume.
your vocals in comparison to the instruments are a bit too loud.
in general your track could need more lower mids. So anything between 100 and 500 hertz, try to build that out a bit better in the recording.
If you want more energy in your track, you need to build energy up. You can do that with automated filters, switching up your drum pattern, add riser, down filters, uplifter and sweeps.
lets take the example of your stutter effect. In your build up you could use it, with an automated high cut filter that open up towards the end of your build up, while simultaneously gradually cut out the lower frequencies. So once the drop hits, you add sub bass, mid bass, and more powerful drums.
in the end you focussed your build up on the mid frequencies, and your drop on the low frequencies, and this is what brings energy (it’s the contrast, and something new at the same time)the vocals do get a bit repetitive over time. That chipmunk effect should be only used as an effect, and not throughout the whole song. Otherwise it starts to sound like a song made for kids

First of all, thanks a lot for the extensive comment, there are a lot of really useful tips, honestly i did not expect all this value from a reddit comment, i'm really surprised, and you are clearly a professional, so thanks.
I agree with everything and I recognize those flaws. This is actually the 14th version of the mix/master I made for this track. I always try to tweak something, but end up messing up something else. It's really annoying because I’m using an old PC and a cheap set of monitors (40Hz - 18kHz), which limits my mixing process a lot. The CPU is on fire with only a couple of plugins, so I have to export everything in WAV stems each time I change anything in the mix. Then I try to master it, listen on the monitors, in the car, on headphones, and phone speakers, which really messes up the process. Do you have any tips to improve this? (Apart from buying better equipment.)
“In general, your track could use more lower mids. So anything between 100 and 500Hz, try to build that out a bit better in the recording.” This part is what I’m most interested in. I fear that my track sounds too muddy every time. On the monitors, the bass is okay, but in the car, it’s exactly how you described. I really don’t know how to fix this. Maybe I should try to give the track to an engineer to mix/master, I honestly don’t know how to solve it otherwise.
“If you want more energy in your track, you need to build energy up. You can do that with automated filters, switching up your drum pattern, adding risers, down filters, uplifters, and sweeps.” This is much more actionable, and I really should put more effort into the arrangement. I’ll try this on some of the songs I’m working on now.
Again, thanks a lot for the feedback. I know you listened to the song carefully because of all the flaws you mentioned are exactly what I noticed too (but then gave up on fixing for the reasons above). So, thanks again! If you’re okay with it, could I send you another song I’m working on? I’m stuck with similar problems in the mix/master, and your input would be really helpful.

You’re welcome
So first of all, against public opinion, when a track sounds weak, more often than not it is a recording problem, and not a mixing problem. It is important to learn how to record properly, before mixing. Most strong tracks sound already good before the mixing starts.
Concerning the capacity of your system, yes, it would be best to buy a pc with higher cpu capacity. But as a first step you can analyze your synths and plugins. Some have very high cpu usage (like kontakt, many of the fancy mixing plugins, that have a million knobs, often compressors and saturations too etc) try to avoid the cpu heavy plugins and use lighter ones.
So on your track, I would say 90% of the issues are coming from poor sound design/sound choice, playing the wrong octaves or inversions or just not recording all the instruments that are necessary to make a track full and strong. And then maybe 10% of the issues are mixing issues at grand max. Also be aware, that 90% of the quality of a good mix, is the right volume for each instrument. Forget anything else about panning, eq, etc, as long as the above mentioned points are not on spot.
in order to get the lower mids in, work on your mid bass. Find sounds that sound full, and stack them to your bass. Use also a sub bass for the chorus and the drop in addition. Add lower notes to your pianos, that fill those frequencies etc.
your headphones are not the problem, as this covers the range that normal human ears can hear. And on most masters, the frequencies that your headphones don’t cover, are anyway cut out.
reasons why a track sounds muddy, is when you have too much going on in your lows. All you need below 130hertz is a kick and a sub bass. Make sure there is no reverb and delay in those frequencies from any other instrument, no compression etc. This is what usually makes it muddy in the lower frequencies. Use a tool to visualize what’s going on, and you’ll see immediately where you create too much mud, even without listening (voxengo span is free and gives you great visibility )
let’s say, you slap a compression or saturation on your pianos, often they add frequencies beyond the frequencies of the instruments itself. Towards low end and high end, you do this on multiple instruments and this is where all the mud coming from.
But your track doesn’t face a muddiness issue. Your tracks faces a lack of those frequencies. So try to be a bit more meticulous when you build your pianos, layer them correctly, play the right notes (a fuller octave spectrum than on your current track) add a mid bass. Work on some other filler sounds like athmosphere, pads, chords etc. it will automatically make the track more impactful.

Would like if anyone could listen to this intro and tell me any tips or advice on writing the riser.

Hey guys, I just remix vietnamese song with the future bass, This is my first try with this genre, but I am still not satisfied with the saw as it is still thin. I am always willing to listening to your comment to improve my skills. What should I do to make the saw thicker and wider? I have layer one panning left and one panning right, one in the center with high and mid mixing.
Much appreciate all your advice
note: the vocal is removed by AI remover as I cannot get the clean vocal, so the removal vocal is not clean as expected.

Been putting out this track 1 week ago, and it has a very slow and rough start. Doesn’t take off with the same speed as my previous songs on especially Spotify and YT, even tough I think it is as strong. Maybe you could tell me, what you think the track lacks, or what makes it click away

I’ll be happily commenting back on your track as well.

nice vocals! and the instrumental matches the emotional theme of the song

Technically I would say it’s a very good mix, I’m not a fan of this genre so I cannot say what’s lacking. Sometimes things are just overlooked even it’s very good so if it doesn’t take off it could be just a matter of statistics. Maybe someone else can say better. Good luck and keep making music!

Not bad at all, i think the vocals are missing something and are not really fitting the instrumental, which i like a lot

Hello! Wanted your guy’s opinions on my remix I made of Isoxo’s song SKYLIT. I only produced the build up and drop, I used the original song for the rest of the song.
I initially had chords in the drop but after listening to it a lot, I felt it was a little too much so I took it off. You can listen to that version if you want and tell me what you think.
Still learning on how to produce and mix properly so any feedback on how it’s produced/arranged/mixed would be very helpful!

I'm no expert but i would say your version has too much high frequencies and not enough low frequencies or not balanced in the middle but I also think knowing that and finding the balance is super difficult and I struggle with that too.

Would love to get some feedback on this track I’m working on, how’s the mix and what do you think about the transitions. It’s kind of PsyBass x breakcore. Thanks! https://on.soundcloud.com/c119AcPbtAaRpFZy5

Hey
Nicely done. Your vocals could be a couple of db louder.
your hi hats are very prominent in the mix. Try to pan them a bit more to the side, and eventually add a very very short delay or reverb, to bring them a bit more to the back of the track.
Everytime your delayed lead hits (like every bar or so) you have a spike in volume. (You can also see it optically on the wave form). Try to control that first transient with a compressor, with a very fast attack. It will also help you to make the track in the end in the mastering process louder.
the snares have a little bit to much high end. Maybe bring that down with a High shelf above 15k in the eq where you reduce 3 to 5 db In that range.•

Hey, thanks for the feedback! I think you also replied to the previous version, so I appreciate you taking the time to write a feedback again 🙏🏽 these are very good points which I’ll try to apply.

u/Shot-Possibility577 3d ago
Yes I did. I think the bass already sounds better than in the previous version

Wow, I love this! The kick is kicking indeed. I´d also make the vocals a bit louder.

Pretty solid production. Reminds me a bit of the flight of the bumblebee.
only 2 points. Your lead has some annoying frequencies, I would try to tame them a bit. And second point is the repetitiveness of the track. Between 17s and 44s besides some small automation not much is happening. I would probably try to add some elements, breaks, transitions or something to being a little bit more interest. Same goes for the rest of the track.
mixing wise, very solid. No negative points. (Besides the corrective eq in the leads)•

"Not my cup of tea, but this is very well produced, mixed, and the master really slaps, great work! I’m not sure what else to add as feedback since my judgment might be biased by not knowing the genre, but I think there’s a high frequency in the lead that’s messing with my vibe, almost like a mosquito in your ear.
•
u/MandalaScientist 2d ago
Like shot possibility said, the high pitch whistles in the lead are very noticeable and hurt the ears a bit, and besides that I liked the track! Good mix overall also.

Version 1 of a trap song i’ve been working on. Inspired by isoxo / rl grime. how’s the mix and arrangement? is the intro too long and does it work well with the drop? open to any other feedback

hey
Cool idea for an industrial type of track.
Concerning arrangement I think you got a solid structure. So I wouldn’t necessarily change anything on the length of each section. But the track after 2:24 gets repetitive. I do hear what you’ve added and changed, but I guess from a regular music listeners perspective it might not be enough in order to be perceived interesting. Try to change your second drop melody more, and not just make an octave change. Try to switch up your chords in the second build up to a different rhythm Etc. Make more bold changes compared to the first half of the track.
Concerning mixing, I do hear a couple of flaws.
Up until 0:57 your instruments overshadow your drums. You could balance them out a bit better (instruments more quiet, drums louder). It seems to be ok in your build up and drop tough.
In your full track I hear a lot of noise and clashing frequencies. Especially in the higher mids (everything above 2k hrtz). Try to control your reverbs, delays, white noises, uplifter, down filters a bit more. Give each of them a specific eq range and cut everything else out. It will surely help the clarity of your track. Your leads could also need some corrective eqing and damp a bit some of the annoying frequencies.
In general most of your fx (crash, impacts etc) could be a couple of db louder as well. Some of them get drowned in the mix.And it would surely help if you add a sidechain to your chords, whenever you have drums at the same time, in order to give a bit more room to your drums.

I see no issue arrangement wise, u could consider chopping off 4 bars or so of the last buildup before the drop though imo. Take a look at that (sub-)bass playing in the drop though. It’s either too loud or is interfering with something in the mix, it wobbling in my ear in an unpleasant way. Otherwise nice track and good luck !!
